1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

While the emergency parking brake was activated and vehicle in park in the driveway that is on a hill, the car began rolling down the driveway at a fast rate of speed with no one in drivers seat. 3 young kids were in car seats in the van with it running while we were outside of the vehicle speaking. All doors locked and it flew down the driveway almost flipping over at the bottom. We took the vehicle to the dealership we purchased it from on June 29, 2023 and they could not recreate the issue. No warning lights were on prior to this incident and when citizens that stopped when this happened, got in the vehicle to dislodge it from the dirt that thankfully stopped it from flipping, they verified that it still showed the e brake as being engaged it was still in park. No police or insurance was called because there was no damage to the vehicle or children but the dealership was called. I do have video of this event but your website does not accept videos.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

My Chrysler van first started to experience strange electrical issues. Key fob would not open doors, driver seat could not be adjusted without blowing a fuse, and finally it started to get almost impossible to start when the engine was cold in the morning. I took it to my trusted mechanic, and after running a diagnostic, he said they got over 300 message errors. However, since they were not a dealership, they were unable to repair my van. They said they had seen this issue before, and I needed to take it to a Chrysler dealership for repair. I took it to Chrysler, with the note from my mechanic about the 300 errors, and they said this was a well know issue. They commented that I was lucky to be able to drive the van to their dealership, because most vans with this problem had to be towed in. They said my entire fuse box needed to be replaced, and the cost of the job would be over $1,100. 00 dollars, but the real issue would be getting the box in the first place! the service department mgr. Said it took 1 customer over 9 months to have his van repaired because the part was unavailable. I placed my order on 3/28/23. As of today June 5, the part is not scheduled until June 23. In the meantime, along with the $1,100 repair, I am paying $160/month to rent a vehicle from my brother. Since this is a known issue, I believe Chrysler should have to pay: 1) $791. 06 for the fuse box. 2) half the labor costs for installation and programming - about $150. 3) reimburse me for at least 3/4 of the cost of renting my brothers car. Having to wait months for a part that has been a problem for years is unacceptable for a major car manufacturer.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2021

Driving home from work and my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan just turned off on me while I was at a red light. It took sometime for my vehicle to turn back on. Since then I’ve had this problem now for 3 days. I’ve taken it in to my local machine and was told I only needed a new gas cap. Well that didn’t work and I found myself again stuck at a red light. After doing some investigation on Dodge Grand Caravans I saw other people had issues with a ignition switch. Different years same brand and if this is a cause Dodge needs to look into this. I’ll be going to a actual dealership to see if they can diagnose the problem. Only scared I’ll be stuck on the highway.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2020

Driving van in town 35 mph wipers came on by themselves and stayed on switch in the off position information panel goes out along with speedometer, tach, and gages van runs like normal. Changed tipm no correction failure happened at 156000 thousand miles.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

Intermittent no start issue. Only happens when the vehicle is warm, I stop for a quick stop, and attempt to restart vehicle; no start - no crank, no click, no hum, no hiss, nothing. After 30 minutes to an hour the vehicle will start with no issues. Have had vehicle to dealership two different occasions yet unable to recreate the no start issue. Starter is good, alternator is good. Has happened in warm weather and in cold weather and has happened a dozen times or more since December 16, 2019.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2019

While I was slightly accelerating from a stop light and turning around a corner going 5-10 mph my drivers side quarter window exploded and the drivers side near passenger window shattered. I waited for law enforcement to access the scene to see if something hit my car and they concluded that nothing entered or exited my vehicle. They advised me to contact Dodge about defective windows because there was nothing else that caused this and no damage to the van other than the windows. Dodge is not assuming any responsibility and is denying reimbursement. This should not be able to happen. Upon researching if this has happened to anyone else it appeared to happened to several other people. This is a huge safety concern. My children were in the back seat. My daughter had shattered glass all over her with glass down her shirt and she was screaming. My vehicle is older but clearly if this is a normal thing to happen for a vehicle this age then all Dodge vehicles should be taken off the road at a certain age/mileage. I was more than willing to do anything necessary for Dodge to inspect the vehicle but kept getting told that they were processing the claim and that there was nothing more they needed from me. When they called to tell me they denied my claim they acted like they did not have enough evidence to show that they were at fault because an inspection was not done.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2019

Having problems starting my Grand Caravan. It is an intermittent problem that has been getting worse. The starter just cranks but the van does not turn over. Then out of nowhere it fires up. I took it to the mechanic and they couldn't duplicate the problem. Then when I got it back it started happening again. Reviewing online queries it seems can be a faulty tipm module, something with the fuel system relay. I've seen many posts with this issue yet there seems no recall for the part, thus this complaint. Thank you.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2019

Both rear auto doors automatically shut as soon as they open. They do not stay open long enough to safely remove my disabled child from the rear seating. It has become a safety hazard. If I turn automatic feature off, it does the same thing still. As soon as the door opens all the way, it automatic shuts itself. This has been an issue for a few weeks now.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2019

Our family purchased a Dodge Grand Caravan 2011 in October of 2018. Within two weeks of purchasing the vehicle, it broke down on the freeway. It acted a s if it had run out of gas. It lost all power and the power steering went out. Once I got over to the shoulder, I tried restarting it. It would make noise like it was going to start, but would not fire all the way back up. After about 10-20 minutes, I tried again and it started back up. We went to take it back to the dealership, because we need a safe, reliable vehicle for our family, but the dealership had gone out of business. The exact issue has repeated 8 times, since the first time in October. There is never any warning and you have very little time to try and coast somewhere once the vehicle stops working. As you can imagine, it is very stressful with little kids. Also, we live in utah, where there is mountains and canyons and snow and switchbacks, making it even more perilous. After researching the problem, we see that there are many Dodge vehicles having the same issue, yet no recall has been done to make this right. Please fix this! we don't want to die!.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

The tipm module completely failed causing damage to the fuel pump. From preliminary research this is a known issue that Dodge has failed to address with this model. Vehicle will not start. Have had intermittent propulsion issue which causes the vehicle to be sluggish thus causing a danger to driver and occupants in traffic situations.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

Would not start . Dealer said was tipm. Other people with vehicle like mine said theirs did same thing then stalled on road and got rear ended thank god that part didn't happen to me but it could have. Safety issue ???? I had trouble getting it to start then I could here something running in the back by gas cap didn't know what it was. The next morning I went out to try to start it and the battery was dead. The pump in the gas tank was what was running and drained the battery. Got a jump from repair place in town. Drove it when I got home and then have to leave in morning it would not start like it wasn't getting any gas. Turned over just would not fire. Had to have it towed to dealer. Only had 86000 miles on it.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Just found out that the rear evaporator core of our ac unit is bad and will need to be replaced at a cost of approximately $750. 00. Apparently, this is a known and wide-spread issue on this particular model of vehicle, dating back as far as 2005.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2018

My van has had electrical type issues since we purchased it, but in the last couple years they have imagnified. Every issue starts with the car smoking and some sort of light coming on (engine, battery etc. . ) many times I take it in and the dash light is no longer illuminated or they can not find anything wrong with it and reset the electrical panel. I have replaced the battery numerous times, alternator three times (last time it was completely burnt out and the time before it was completely melted). Transmission lines and coolant lines. The last time my headlights were replaced the wires were charred and frayed. Last night my son was pulled over by the police because the officer noticed the car was smoking. He popped the hood to let the smoke clear (my son said the smoke had a copery taste). After it cleared the van started and drove fine. This is after having the alternator replaced (for the third time) just last week. The technicians at the shop have never seen these kinds of problems before and the guy at interstate battery said he has never seen a car deplete a battery like mine does. With all these issue being associated with the words melting, charring, smoking, it really concerns me that one day my van is going to catch on fire or blow up and this is not normal for any vehicle, but especially one that has been taken care of and maintained. I have friends with the same van and similar mileage (155,000) and they have not had any of these issues. I contacted Dodge who referred me to the NHTSA and the local dealership. Please help!!!.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2018

Passenger side blows always blow hot air even when the setting is on cold air. Driver side works ok but the same time passenger side having problem. It blows hot air irespective of the setting.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2018

Tipm failing. We began having issues with what was thought to be fuel pump and have had the car in the shop to replace the fuel pump without resolution. I was recently driving and had the car shut off on a 55mph zone of a highway with 3 kids plus myself and husband in the car for 45 minutes blocking a lane of traffic while waiting to be towed. We have had the car strand us in various locations 5 times since we bought the car 08/17. We have been researching that it looks to be the tipm that is malfunctioning and causing the fuel pump to run randomly, sometimes continuously for hours draining the battery, or stop running causing the car to die due to lack of fuel while having all headlights, wipes and interior lights functioning. The tipm has caused me to block lanes of traffic on highways, business driveways and be stuck in parking lots 60+ miles from my home due to the fuel pump not shutting off when the car is turned off.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Van on several occasions does not want to start. Put key in ignition, turn it, no noise, no sound of trying to turn over, just nothing. September of 2017 had to have van towed as it did this. Mechanic said needed a fuel pump. Fixed that but problem continued. March 1, 2018 take it back and it is now a starter, key fob thing that is hit and miss and that is why it was hard to find. Now that's another $1100 to try to fix problem. Have no choice as you have to have a reliable vehicle with children.

17 Equipment problem

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2016

Tipm needing to be replaced due to all warning light and wipers cutting on, doors not functioning, all electrical malfunctioning. Motor cutting off low speed. 20 codes listed. Dodge is willing to replace for around $1000 my cost.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2016

Car has a hard time starting or will cut of while driving. Almost got in accident while slowing down for red light.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

Tipm bad. I've taken my van to the Dodge dealer several times for it cranks but not start. Runs rough, accelerates by it self sometimes, windows went down by themselves. They "diagnosed" it and came up with different things, I'm sure never needed such as housing-thermostat, crankshaft position sensor, O2 oxygen sensor. Still running same way and not starting. Then they said I needed a new fuel pump. I had a different mechanic put that on because he said it would be a few weeks before he could get a fuel pump. Couple days later same crap. Next day my van was completely dead, jump started it, turned it off and never would start again! couldn't hear the fuel pump come on at all! now I've spent $1,100 and still can't drive it!! Dodge does not care about their paying customers!!!! please help me!!!!!!!!! I am on a fixed income, I can't afford all this!!!!.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2016

The car has been shutting off while my wife is driving with my kids in the car. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership twice now for the same problem. I just got my car back yesterday 6/28/16 after the dealership had been working on it for a month and half. While my wife was driving today 6/29/16 the same thing happened again. It happens suddenly without any warning so there is no way for her to pull over, she has to remove the ignition key right where she is at and then turn the car back on. This is very concerning because it can cause an accident since there is no way of telling when the car will shut off. I have read many complaints about the same thing happening to other people with same problem. I do not understand why this vehicle has not been recalled.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2016

In June 2013 we had to replace the battery and alternator. Now in Jan 2016 we had to replace the battery again and after running diagnostic we found out the the tipm needs to be replaced. The vehicle will try to crank however it will not always turn over.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2015

Fuel pump does not turn off *trouble starting car and some days just will not start at all engine stalls while driving; twice on the freeway luckily no accident. Horn randomly will go off. * said the key was in the ignition when it wasn't.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2015

I have been having problems with my van cranking. So I took it to my dealer. They changed the fuel pump and it continued to do the same thing. So they replaced relays. They kept my van for over three weeks, but claimed they never could get it to do anything. But every time I get in it in the morning it still does the same thing. When you turn the key to crank it, it continues to try to crank. But if you turn the key off then to right before it cranks, do this a couple of times then it will crank. I asked if anyone ever drove it to see if it did the same thing with them and they said no. Needless to say it is still doing the same thing and no one has bother to contact me to fix the problem. And my van has always had service at the dealership. I want my van back the way it was!!!!!!!!!!.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2015

When driving at 30mph my van accelerated on its on without the gas pedal being touched. I had to push my brakes, I then pulled over. When attempting to drive my van again it did the same thing again. My malfunction indicator light came on the dash after the second acceleration. I then had my car towed.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

Ac quit functioning; auto repair shop informed me that the ac lines run parallel to brakelines, often resulting in ac lines that are compromised by friction. The mechanic considers this a "design flaw" and has seen it in numerous Dodge Grand Caravans, but usually older models and/or higher mileage than mine. The ac lines are all part of a singular system, so the part needs to be ordered from Chrysler (who is backordered); I was informed that it is at least a 2-day job to install. Estimated cost: $675.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

When I try to start the car it will not start. This has happened multiple times and will eventually start after trying up to 30 times. The battery and the starter have been replaced and the issue continues to happen. Also jumping the car does not help.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

I contacted fox negaunee for repair of the "rear quarter vent window switch recall" on 04/15/2015. I made a follow up call a few months later. I still have not been contacted for repair of this recall. I have not experienced an issue with the part; however, as a recall, it should have been fixed in a timely manner. I am disappointed. I keep getting these notices in the mail. When I called initially, I was told I was 60th in line.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Tipm is bad. Confirmed with Dodge dealership service center. Problem cranking in the morning and especially in cold temperatures. Brake light comes on and off while driving among other sensors. Very dangerous and must be recalled.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2014

Our van would not start. The key was stuck in the ignition, so I had the van jumped, then towed to the dealer who said that the battery connectors were loose and that was the issue with the non-start. We get the van back and exactly one week later, the van will not start again. This time I check the battery cables, they are good, so I try to jump the van. This time nothing happens, so I have it towed. The tow truck driver having remembered me from last week says he thinks its a bad battery and his shop can install a new battery no problem. So I take his word. We get to their shop but they find that the battery is not the issue. Their diagnostic shows that the win module needs to be reset and potentially the entire system needed to be flashed. So they get the van running again, I drive it home. The next day, dead. I try to jump it again, nothing again; however, I am now armed with potent information. So I have the van towed to the dealer again. They remember me too now. I tell them what was found from the diagnostic ran from the shop. Thus far they are saying that everything is testing fine but they are not sure what is draining the battery. I feel they are totally unaware of the tipm failure that is currently under investigation. I will alert them of this, but I am not very hopeful as the part is apparently on a national back order. Good thing I have a huffy.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2014

The van has had a number of recent issues with not starting, or stalling after the car was already running. Both issues are dangerous (being stranded or car cutting off randomly). The dealership said they had to replace the tipm. After doing research on my own, this appears to be a common issue, and the repair is over $1000. I can't believe there has not yet been a recall for this, but feel strongly that one should be issued.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

The problems began with the vehicle not starting on the first attempt. Sometimes it takes several attempts to turn over. The windshield wipers come on for no reason and won't shut off for a while. Sometimes the fuel pump continues to run even when the car is turned off. The battery had been drained completely and needed replacement shortly after purchase.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

The center for auto safety(cas) petitions the NHTSA to initiate a safety defect investigation into failures associated with the totally integrated power module (tipm) installed in 2007 Chrysler SUV's, trucks and vans. . . . Updated 10-14-15.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2014

After arriving home from a 5 mile trip, after about 15 minutes of driving, pulled in driveway, turned off vehicle, saw smoke coming from button on ac unit which controls the speed of airflow for the ac. The smoke increased, smelled of chemicals and was clearly an electrical fire burning through ac knob. Fire department was called. Dash removed. Fire was recreated by fireman twice. Ac fuses were disconnected from battery by fireman. Van was towed by aaa to Dodge dealership for further inspection/repair. Rental car was provided by Dodge and covered for 5 days. Today is the 5th day and Dodge is still working on car.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2014

Boniface heirs Dodge in merritt island, florida disable the rear quarter window switch due to a fire hazard - the switch catching fire - well it has been 7 months and they keep saying Dodge has not sent them a switch - one reason I bought the van was the rear quarter vent windows - my hubby smokes and it is good ventilation along with his passenger window open - well now the smoke stays in the van - and when I call or go in and ask about the switch - I get the run around and I can't afford to buy another van - and if I do then it will have the same problem - all I really want is a good switch and it fixed so that my van will work like it did when I bought it. Can you help me with that - I realize I am only 1 person and a women at that - but we buy cars and all types of things.
