Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan based on all problems reported for the 2011 Grand Caravan.
Fuel pump is staying engaged when the car is turned off, a side effect of a damaged totally integrated power module.
At 46,000 miles tipm had to be reprogrammed after fuel pump failure due to relay. Repair cost was over $2300. 00. Now at 62,900 mile the alternator burned out and pcm has to be replaced and reprogrammed.
The fuel pump relay built into the tipm has gone bad, and from research is very common in these vehicles. The car has become increasingly difficult to start, and now will not start at all.
In July 2017 my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan was brought to my Dodge dealership due to problems starting and the stalling of vehicle while on the road. Dealership felt it was the fuel pump which was covered under my vehicle protection plan. My car was given back to me approximately 3 days later. My husband picked up the car and within 4 hours, car gave difficulty starting and stalled while driving at a major intersection. Dealership was contacted the very next morning and car was brought to back to the dealership. It was then discovered that the tipm of the car had to be replaced. This unfortunately is not covered. My issue is that if the car is stalling at intersections and possibly endangering the life of myself and my children in the car. . How can this not be covered? how can there not be a safety recall? I am lucky that the car did start back up, but I now fear driving this vehicle.
Wont start . Fuel pump doesnt run at times , no fuel no start . At times it runs & stops on road . Verry dangerous in traffic . Windows roll down by themself . Doors un lock by themself . Dealer doesnt know what is wrong I am told . The dealer says the problem may be the tipm computer but will not say for sure . But they will replace it if I want, for 1200. 00 no guarantee it will fix it . These vehicles with this type of computer should be recalled . They are a danger tothe public . When driving on road they will stop running because of fuelpump & tipm are not working correctlu .
I purchased my 2011 Grand Caravan in July 2012 an have had several problems with it ever since. There have been multiple instances of the engine stalling while driving and/or my vehicle not starting. I have since troubleshot this down to the fuel pump relay being faulty in the tipm. I have also had issues of un-commanded opening and closing of the rear sliding doors while parked. I also get an random flicker of the airbag light on dash with audio tone. These issues were discussed with a mechanic at the local Dodge dealership when having a recall performed on the "misfire" issue. I was told that the software was updated and I should not have any more issues. That has definitely not been the case. One of the above mentioned issues occurs on a weekly if not daily basis. I do not feel safe putting my family in this vehicle!.
Car will not start, will crank but no turn over. It will only start if I bypass the fuel pump relay. This is an ongoing issue with Dodge/Chrysler and some vehicles have been recalled for this fault tipm but the caravan hasn't. This is a safety issue as the car will stall at any moment while driving if does start to begin with.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the vehicle would suddenly violently shake without warning. The contact would have to press the accelerator pedal with excessive pressure in order for the shaking to stop. The contact stated that when they would attempt to start the vehicle, the vehicle would fail to immediately start. The contact would have to make several attempts to start the vehicle in order for the vehicle to start as intended. Then contact stated that while driving at highway speeds the vehicle's service engine warning light would illuminate and the vehicle would stall. The contact then stated that when the stalling occured and they would attempt to start the vehicle, the vehicle would fail to start. The contact would have to let the vehicle coast to the side of the road and then have the vehicle towed. The contact stated the failure occurred several times. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump relay failed and needed to be replaced. The contact contacted the dealership (Jeep, Chrysler Dodge ram & fiat of ontario located at 1202 auto center dr, ontario, CA 91761 phone number 909-390-9898 ) in attempt to purchase the necessary part for repair, however, due to NHTSA campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system) the part was unable to be purchased. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. Gl.
The vehicle does not start intermediately and has been diagnosed as a problem with the fuel pump relay embedded in the tipm that cannot be accessed or repaired by normal means. This defect can cause the vehicle to shut down without warning causing a great safety problem. This same problem was experienced by the Dodge durango and other Chrysler vehicles and a recall was issued to fix this problem.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact was concerned that the fuel pump relay failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
Accelerates on its own while it was stationary and going down the highway. It would not start when turning on. Had to replace the fuel pump and now being told that it needs the tipm replaced to start.
We have had our van now for almost 2 years with no problems. In mid-August, my wife was taking my daughter to marching band practice at 5 am. She told me that as she was going through an intersection, it just stalled on her. Thankfully, it was only 5 am and not during rush hour. Being the skeptical guy I am, I though maybe she had hit the key somehow and shut it down. Then it happened to me and I was nearly rear-ended. I checked it out and didn't find anything, but from that day forth, it became hard to start at random times. Sometimes when we turn the key, the ignition will crank, but the engine won't start and we'll have to turn the key off to make it stop turning over. Other times, it will attempt to start, or even start, then immediately stall. Eventually, and sometimes after 8-10 attempts, it will start and run until the next time we park it. Ever since I checked it out, I have noticed that, at times, you can't hear the hum of the fuel pump when you turn the key, while other times it doesn't seem to stop making noise. Just this morning, I left to go to work, only to find that the van won't start. Apparently, one of the other obvious signs of a bad tipm is the occasional dead battery. . . . Caused by a fuel pump that the tipm fuel relay fails to shut off. At this point, my van has been sitting since October of 2016, as we cannot afford the high repair cost. The repair estimate that I was quoted for the tipm will cost around $1100. Had this been taken care of by Chrysler, I may have saved what I spent on batteries and the alternator.
Several things has been happening. Van would speed up for no apparent reason, it has stalled while driving, two front windows went down by themselves, I've had to try several times to start the van, its gotten a lot worse! took it to cr Dodge dealer in adrian mi had to pay $60. 00 to diagnose it. They came up with thermostat and crankshaft position sensor labor $297. 05 parts $76. 20 took it home a couple days same crap. Put 02 oxygen sensor because it was also running really bad at times. A couple days later same crap. Took it back again said it needs a new fuel pump module. Had to take it to a different mechanic because it would take them at least 2 weeks to get one in. So around $500. 00 for the pump. A few days later again hard to start, it seems like if there were a lot of moisture in the air or rain it was worse. So yesterday went out and was completely dead! got a jump it finally started. Turned it off tried to start it with the aftermarket remote starter wouldn't start again at all after that just cranks and I don't hear the fuel pump coming on. I told the "Dodge" service man that I read about the tipm and I thought it was that. He said no, he said it depends when and where the van was made???? Dodge does not care about their customers!!!! I am sooooooo aggravated!!!!.
Car (2011 Grand Caravan) would crank but not start. I had it towed to safford Dodge in springfield, virginia. They diagnosed the problem as a bad fuel pump. I paid $950 for a tow and a new fuel pump. As soon as I drove the vehicle home, it was doing the exact same thing (crank but not start). Eventually, it started but, later in the day, it would not start at all. I contacted the dealer and made arrangements for it to be towed in again. Eventually, the service guy calls back and says they are having trouble pinpointing the problem. Before this point I had researched the problem and discovered the multiple issues with the tipm module. The next morning he calls my wife and tells her that we need a new tipm module and it's going to cost $1200 to replace it. She told him that we would pay for the tipm module provided they deducted the cost of the new fuel pump which we believe was replaced in error. Service guy was adamant that fuel pump was bad and that it had to be replaced. He said they had isolated the pump and confirmed that it had power coming to it before diagnosing that it needed to be replaced. This may be true but I have zero faith that this guy was telling me the truth. I have read several reports on the internet where people had their fuel pump replaced in error. I eventually went to the service manager. He was also insistent that the fuel pump failed simultaneously with the tipm module. I also asked him if they had replaced multiple tipm modules and he acted as if this was a very rare repair; however, when he insinuated that my fuel pump and tipm had failed simultaneously, he acted as if he had seen this several times?! my central concern is that there have been several reports of the tipm module failing abruptly at highway speed.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. While attempting to start the engine, the fuel system failed to engage and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed a failure code for the fuel pump. The vehicle was repaired and the fuel pump assembly was replaced. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v530000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 77,000.
Vehicle began having issues starting, intermittently at first, about 3-4 weeks ago. 4 days ago, vehicles battery was dead, wouldn't start for several attempts. Stalled twice while driving 60 mph continued to not start, battery, alternator, starter, wiring all checked out okay with local repair shop. The fuel pump relay in the tpim (total integrated power module) was bad, required whole tpim to be replaced.
For the past year or so we have had check engine light on and off and have had it checked at Dodge dealerships and private mechanics. The code they kept coming up was a general code of "misfire" so Dodge convinced us to get the spark plugs fixed and to do fuel cleaner to our fuel tank because it was "probably that". After the fixes were made as a result of what Dodge told us to do, the same problems continued to occur. After several more times of the van "sputtering" down the road in both city and highway driving feeling like it was about to stall out which could have caused injury to my family or myself, it got to the point it would not even start. We took it to get fixed yet again thinking it was the fuel pump to find out it was the tipm. This is a part that is known to go wrong in Dodge vans yet there is no recall on it or any fix for it. I transport my three kids in this vehicle that we still owe money on to find out one of its main components is faulty and there is no fix so it is over a grand out of our pockets (and several 100 other people) to get this part fixed. Not to mention the fact that our car is rendered useless until this is done. Dodge needs to be held accountable for this part that is faulty in 2011 grand carvans. Families don't need to be seriously hurt or even killed because this little part stops working mid drive (which happened to us but we were pulling out of the driveway with no one around). Please hold them accountable. If you can't then make someone else! it is not fair to the consumer who put their trust in Dodge! this has been a year and a half of constant issues that have come out of our wallets while the car maker sits pretty.
Just purchased the van used, have a loan on it and now apparently there is a $1,000-$1300 repair that needs to be done because Dodge fails to admit any wrong-doing. This is of serious safety concern. When I was finally able to get my van started, I went to put it in reverse and it wouldn't move. Turns out it had died on me. As with many other people, the tipm is to blame. The van can die at any point because of the loss of power to the fuel pump, if there is no fuel getting to the engine, then there is no power steering, and no power brakes. How is it that there are other models with the same issue that got recalled, but not the Grand Caravan?!.
Power to the fuel pump. I have noticed that sometimes the vehicle will not start after the first try. Some times I have to turn the key to off then to run three times and then go to start. At that point the vehicle will start. I sometimes can't hear the fuel pump turn on when I go to start the car. I just keep turning the key off and on until I can hear the pump run. It always starts after I can hear the pump turn on. Another problem is every once in a while I will just hear a cling when going to start the vehicle but the starter doesn't turn over just cling. That has happened twice. I got the battery checked out by aaa the battery was just working great.
Vehicle does not start easily and at times experiences total power loss I've changed every fuse and relay as well as fuel pump and any other module or relay that can be replaced and much to my dispare the problems are still there to the point I don't feel safe driving with or without my whole family when it finally does decide to start it runs great but then you have to worry about the complete power loss issue which renders my brakes power steering and stability control completely useless! I don't know what else to do I'm stuck paying my finance company for a vehicle I can't drive and basically serves as little more than a pretty yard ornament we just got this vehicle in November 2015 the first sign of an issue was less than a week after purchase after little more than a month after driving off the lot and the third time losing power while driving the final time being on 275 in cincinnati 1/5/16 I decided that it's probably best to park the vehicle and not put our family in jeopardy especially during the cold cincinnati winter until we can figure it out or afford both the car payment and the trip to the ridiculously expensive Dodge dealership to pay for their technicians figure it out and then pay again to have it repaired.
After months of vehicle sometimes starting, sometimes not, it finally would not start. Would crank but not turn over, the week prior to this, press on gas pedal and nothing happened (while driving) - very dangerous. Diagnosis = new fuel pump. Car is 4 years old with less than 60,000 miles.
Van would crank but would not start. After several attempts it started but ran erratic. After driving van for ~20 minutes van began to hesitate while driving at 55 mph on a state highway. I researched problem on internet and noticed other with a similar problem. I also noticed Chrysler announced a recall on 2011 Dodge durango and Jeep grand cherokee suvs for a very similar problem but not for the Grand Caravan. The root cause of the problem appears to be the fuel pump relay in the tipm. I discussed the problem with my local Chrysler dealership and the service adviser indicated that he was aware of the recall and had also seen the similar issue on vans. The dealership bypassed the relay using mopar part cbwpr091aa wiring - fuel pump relay. Part was $18. 88 and total bill with labor was $176. 00. The van appears to be operating normally at this time.
Fuel pump does not turn off *trouble starting car and some days just will not start at all engine stalls while driving; twice on the freeway luckily no accident. Horn randomly will go off. * said the key was in the ignition when it wasn't.

My Grand Caravan has issues starting, it just cranks and does not start. I had a Dodge mechanic check it out and he found it had the common issue of a bad fuel pump relay in the tipm. This same issue exists in the durango of the same year and it has a recal, why tfk aren't the caravans included. It's the same fix installing an external relay bypassing the one on the tipm.
We have had our 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan for 2 years and approximately 30,000 miles. We had to have the tipm replaced in July 2015. We have had several instances that required a tow as the vehicle would not start or stay running. The tipm burned the fuel pump out and that was the last straw. The tipm was replaced under the after market warranty that we paid for but what other damage could this part have caused to our vehicle? it controls everything the car does for the most part. Will there be an investigation of the Dodge tipm? there needs to be a recall for all vehicles affected which seems to be quite a lot.

The car have 5 problems : a) the car not start the engine in the morning ,consume the battery power without any reason ,the fuel pump continue to run and the car is off. The car stop running while driving put at risk the people in the car. Sometimes I have to crank the engine for about 15 minutes and then the car run. I know that this problems is the same as about 188,723 more vehicles . I talk to crysler and they said my car is fron canada and dont have that problems . But the car do exacly the same as the others and have the same problems . Please some body help me quick. Because I need the car and I am still pay to the bank the car that its not running well . I am afraid to use the car or have an accident.
My car was not on and was stationary, in my drive way. I went to start my car to move it and it wouldn't start. I did some checking on the internet and found that the tipm was having issues. I made a bypass from the passenger outlet to the fuel pump relay to get power. This is a temporary fix but it has worked so far. I have added a picture of my bypass for documentation.
Fuel pump wouldn't disengage causing me to keep taking out fuse which burned my thumbs. Won't start at all now. Shut off two times while driving on street almost causing accidents both times.
For 1 month the vehicle was difficult to start. It would crank just fine, but the engine would not 'ignite' (especially when cold. ) the vehicle would finally start after 5-10 long attempts (turning the engine over and over and then turning the key to the off position before trying again. ) this difficult startup issue lasted for 4 weeks. At that point the vehicle began to stall after running for 10 - 20 minutes (sometimes while driving. ) finally, after parking the vehicle one evening, the fuel pump continued to run after the engine was shut off and the key was removed. It wasn't noticed right away, so by morning the battery was completely dead. All my research indicated the fuel relay is faulty. But the relay is built into the tipm and there is no easy fix. This seems to be happening on all 2011 Chrysler/Dodge vehicles and there is even a recall on the Dodge durango for the issue. This faulty tipm needs to be recalled and replaced. My local dealership has suggested that I get the relay 'fixed" using the fix mentioned in the durango recall. The service adviser suggested it would be around $400 (no guarantee) and that it would be reimbursed if the recall was extended to my make of vehicle at some point in the future. I'm worried that they are going to make it worse and wreck the tipm, which is a part that costs over $1000 (and hard to find. ) I hope to update this complaint after the vehicle is 'fixed. '.
Bought this used van in November and had problems with it from the time we bought it. Thought it was a tcim failure Dodge repair shop said, no, the VIN number was not one that was affected by tcim failure. Had the fuel pump replaced by another shop. Took it home and would not start again the next day. The shop towed it back and found that it is the tcim causing the fuel pump failure. Waiting to see what will be the additional cost, besides the $600 + to change the fuel pump.
After being told by the dealer our van wouldn't start due to the alternator, we decided to have the alternator looked at. The other mechanic found nothing to be wrong with the alternator. The dealer also said we needed our fuel pump replaced. We have had other vehicles that needed fuel pumps replaced and when the fuel pump went out we were not able to drive it at all. My husband was at an appointment and after turning off van he heard something running. The sound was tracked to the fuel pump. So the dealer wasted our time and money all the time trying to have us replace parts that would not have corrected the problem. After calling and trying to get a fuel pump regulator we discovered the fuel pump regulator is built into the tipm. We have a faulty tipm. I wish Dodge would get off their butt and issue a recall already. The only way a can shut the fuel pump off is to unhook the battery.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the fuel pump failed to shut off after removing the key from the ignition. As a result, the battery was drained and needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear driver side tire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
