Bought a used 2005 Grand Caravan 4 months ago. Took it ot the dealership todayto have the airbag sensor replaced (recall item). The dealership did a "courtesy inspection" for and found a leak in the power steering rack, play in the left tie rod, and a left front axle seal. The vehicle only has 54,000 miles on it so this should not be failing this soon (as I see it is with many other peoples' vehicles).

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving approximately 65 mph, she noticed that the tire blew out. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who informed her that the tie rod was worn and needed to be replaced. The local private replaced all four tie rods. The dealer informed the contact that there were no related recalls and did not offer any additional assistance. The manufacturer advised her to call NHTSA and file a complaint. The current mileage was 56,675 and the failure mileage was 52,147.

I previously submitted a complaint about my rear wheel bearings. My abs light is on again so I took it the garage. I am told my right outer tie rod and the sway bar kit needs to be replaced. I have already replaced the left outer tie rod about 10,000 miles ago. The suspension of this van is horrible and it is a family car. I carry my family in this car that could loose a tire, flip over, or leave me stranded in the middle of the road. I am a mother who doesn't use the van for anything other than ordinary use. I am not baja or causing any stress on the suspension to cause all these problems. Current mileage is 64,000.
1-took Chrysler 2007 Grand Caravan for repair, July 2, 2009, for brake repair and tuneup. Repair man noticed the front tie-rods were of more immediate concern. He said he noticed same condition of damaged/bent tie rods on other Chrysler Mini vans (not sure if other Chrysler vehicles as well). He even questioned whether there was an immanent recall. I did just write to Chrysler expressing concern on tie rods. 2- the failure is the front tie rods (not sure on rear) which now makes sense as my front tires are prematurely worn. Did the tie rods also cause the brakes to prematurely wear? I have 45k miles on vehicle (normal driving conditions)and am now on 2nd brake repair (rotors and pads). Not 100% clear if brakes affected by tire rods damage but premature tire condition is, according to mechanic. Consequences of front tie rod defect could be serious accident while driving. 3- action item: I will have repair place repair front brakes then bring van back in one week to repair the front tie rods ($150). Then a week later get new front tires. Couldn't afford all three at once. Thank you for any help/guidance.

On last service, learned tie rods, ball joints, and strut bearing defective. Power steering still making noise and hard to steer. Total shop time 10 days.

: the contact stated while driving various speeds, there was popping noise and a pronounced vibration within the front suspension. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the stabilizer bar bushings were worn and needed to be replaced. Although the bushings were not replaced, while applying pressure to the brakes at any speed, the popping noise progressively got worse. The contact inspected the vehicle and determined it was both tie rod end ball joints that were worn and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not alerted.

Tie rods are wearing out very rapidly. At 25500 miles, the dealer is replacing tie rods for the second time. They admit there has been a bit of a problem with them. Their own courtesy van had new tie rods and ball joints before 25000 miles.

1996 Dodge Grand Caravan - lifetime lubricated tierod end separated resulting in a loss of steering - the rubber seal deteriorated the grease was gone and the ball joint corroded to the point it fell apart - wife was parking the van at the time - could have been much worse she was 150 miles from home at the time
less than a month later I saw another Dodge caravan broke down on a highway right front tire not facing as it should - I suspect another tie rod end failure - now I know these bearings can be manufactured so they can not separate - aircraft rod end bearings come to mind - isn't a loss of steering a good enough reason to make a part so it cant fail?.

Vehicle would start to pull to left when consumer was driving. Contacted dealer, and dealer had replaced brakes and tires, thinking that was the problem, but the problem still existed. . A bad tie rod failure caused the vehicle pull to the left.
