37 Wheel problem of the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/14/2016

In the act of turning into a parking lot, I hit the curb on the front passenger side and heard a loud bang. As I continued, I knew immediately that I had a flat and pulled into a parking spot. There was a side wall blow out very large on that front tire. Had to replace the tire on a car that we have owned new for only 6 months and only had 6,000 miles on. I was going very slow as I turned and when I went back to look at the curb it was rounded and not sharp. Took a photo of it because it shocked me. Aaa came and towed the car to a dealer and after reading some shocking reports about the takahoma tires that we have on our car decided to replace it with another brand. My concern is the safety of the other 3 tires as we continue driving this car.

40 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/09/2015

While my wife was traveling in a highway at approximately 50 mph the spare wheel suspender cable broke. That caused a loud noise and a very rough ride because the spare wheel was stuck under the minivan. After dragging the spare wheel and the steel tray that support it under the minivan for approximately 200 meters, the wheel and tray eventually got loose and ended up in the middle of the highway. Incredibly as it may sound there were no other vehicles in the highway in same direction as my wife at that time and she was able to back up the minivan to a safe place, walk to the middle of the highway pick up the wheel and save it inside the minivan. Afterwards my wives continued to her destination were she parked on a very uneven street. At that moment a plastic protective cover fell off from where the spare tire used to be under the minivan. When I inspected the minivan I could not find any trace of the steel cable that suspends the wheel under the minivan. Upon turning bolt that is used to lower the spare tire the broken cable showed up under the minivan. I would suspect that the steel cable broke at the end terminal because that exact failure mode had already occurred with the parking brake steel cable and I had to replace it. The plastic cover that had fallen was part of the assembly were the spare tire is sandwiched between that cover and a metal tray. The spare tire was in the steel carrier and never got loose even when it was stuck under the minivan.

41 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/08/2015

On September 8, 2015, we were travelling to our local beach and I noticed a low tire pressure indicator on the vans dashboard. I was lucky to know this particular part of the bronx, so we immediately got off of the highway and stopped at a local garage. Thinking that it was just a slow leak, we pulled over to the pay-for-air kiosk and I went to fill the front, passenger’s side tire, which appeared low. The tire was not flat, just low. To may complete amazement, when I applied the required pressure onto the valve stem with the tire inflator, the valve stem disappeared into the rim! this immediately deflated the tire. The kids immediately started complaining that this was going to ruin the beach trip, but I assured them that since the gas station we were luckily disabled in front of would be of immediate assistance. I entered the garage and found the sole mechanic turned with his back to me, working on a vehicle. He didn’t see us come in and didn’t know I was there until I excused myself and told him about this crazy thing that had just happened to me. “let me guess, it’s a Chrysler, right?” to make a long story short, he told me that the threads on the Chrysler/Dodge valve stems are made of such shoddy materials that they, in his words, “turn to dust. ” when he finally got the valve stem out of my tire, it was indeed nearly completely oxidized. The next day, I brought the van to our local tire repair shop to have all of the valves replaced with good, old fashioned rubber ones. The remaining were all in similar, terrible condition. With the exception of the aftermarket sensor we had purchased last year. The tire shop said that it was a common occurrence among Dodge and Chrysler vehicles. I feel this same condition caused the blowout we had experienced the year before as well.

42 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/14/2015

Driving on NY state thruway at 1 am Friday night and tire sensor light went on but no indication anything other than low tire pressure. Soon after the car makes noise we pull over to safe side of the road and see the tire is flat. This is the second time this has happened. Luckily no one was hurt and no crash. Brought car to monro as before when this happened before. Can check with them when. So the tensor broke off as before and went into the tire. Shredded the tire on the inside as before. I have to get a new tire again and new sensor. Will cost me a lot of money for inferior design and materials for the sensor. Needs to be recalled and stronger material should be used. Also a new design feature like Subaru to have a flashing light if there is a serious issue other than just low tire pressure. The Dodge just has a stay on light warning. So have to pay for new sensor new tire and had to pay for roadside assistance. Called Dodge and found out there have been many reports of this already. The woman kim, will report this to Dodge.

43 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/12/2015

I was driving our van on vacation in out of state on the expressway at 70 mph. My low tire sensor came on, along with the yellow exclamation point light in the dash. I was close to my exit, pulled off and into a gas station where there was an air pump, looking to asses the situation. When I tried to put air into the front driver side tire, which was now really looking flat, I pushed the air nozzle against the valve stem which pushed right inside the rim. I had to call my insurance to have a wrecker come, they put my doughnut tire on. I went and had a tire place put in a regular valve stem. The original valve stem is stuck to the inside of the rim, and apparently had come lose because whatever had held it there failed. When I got home, I had the valve stem replaced with a new valve stem with a pressure sensor. I feel this is unsafe, because losing any of your tires pressure at the rate of speed we were driving, could have made us lose control of the vehicle, harming ourselves or others driving near us.

44 Wheel problem of the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

Called a tow truck after a blown tire. Was towed to the nearest shop where they attempted to repair the tire. They inspected all four of my tires and I was advised I had dry rot in them and they expected I would be replacing them all within a year. Only had the vehicle for one year and was only at 6000 miles. Since then I've taken it to 2 other tire specialists and all told me my vehicle is a hazard to drive, and it should be parked until fixed. Spoke with the Dodge dealership, customer service, and yokohama tires rep, all said its cosmetic and I shouldn't worry about it. I refuse to put my family in jeopardy because they don't want to fix their mistakes.

45 Wheel problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/28/2015

Tire pressure light started flashing and then went solid while driving 70 mph. I pulled over to check my tires. When I started to unscrew the cap on one of the tires, the valve stem broke and the tire went flat. I had just driven through a tunnel and was headed towards another. Had the stem broke while I was driving, it could have caused a serious accident. There are so many complaints about this issue that I can't understand why there hasn't been a recall. There was a recall on the sensor not reading the correct tire pressure which can lead to over inflating and a tire blowing out, but not on this which seems to be affecting a lot of people.

46 Wheel problem of the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

My vehicle was struck in the drivers side door by another vehicle. The entire side of the van was affected, from the wheels to the bumpers. I feel the vehicle that struck my van was doing at least 20 mph at the time of impact and the side impact air bags did not deploy. In my research I have found that impacts from 8 to 18 mph should cause these side air bags to deploy. This is very concerning for myself and the safety of others with these types of vehicles. Chrysler had an "independent" investigator inspect the van before any repairs were completed. I was not asked to be present at the time of the inspection or given a copy of the report. I will be attempting to contact the "independent" investigator for a copy of the report but don't feel that I will have much luck. There were four children in the van along with my spouse when the accident happened and thankfully no critical injuries were sustained. I would like to know if the air bags were supposed to work. The vehicle is currently being repaired at the dealership I purchased it at.

47 Wheel problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

Premature wear and failure of front wheel bearings, all rotors, brakes and pads. Possible failures are due to inferior parts being used during vehicle assembly.

48 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

The tire valve stem cracked, causing the tire to deflate. This is the second time within a year, different wheel the first incident. I am going to replace all stems. Both tire stems were found cracked and leaking air while parked. Many on line complaints. No recall by Dodge yet, this is a real danger to the public. If the stems should fail at high speeds could lead to accident.

49 Wheel problem of the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

I was driving down a freeway bridge changing lanes with little traffic to inside walled lane around a slight turn, when the van felt like it lost traction in the front right ;and slightly sped up. I drove along the edge of the wall, safely trying to reduce speed and pull off the freeway. Luckily I managed to only glance and scrape the wall caused mild body damage ;deep scraps and dents. When I pulled off the freeway,I had a trashed front right tire, half a rim and extensive steering component damage. I think it is possible the tire was low, with no indication of it,but what scared me was the acceleration increase of up to 10+ mph. The road there just in that area was dark and I thought I might have had run over something that caused rt front wheel to lose ground contact,;I. E a truck retread or a rolled up carpet, but the police found nothing in the roadway, the temp was in the high 30's,no ice. . . . . . Water and I had $6500 in damage. I have basic steel rims, plastic caps.

50 Wheel problem of the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/26/2014

I was sold this car without a spare tire or jack, and was not informed at the time of sale that these are not included. There was only an air pump. I had a flat tire and was stranded while pregnant. This is completely unsafe.

51 Wheel problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/22/2014

Tire pressure was a bit low on 2 passenger side tires so added air. End of valve stem (abour 1/4" of thread) broke off in the pump nozzle taking the valve core with it immediately releasing all the air in the tire in a sudden rush. On inspection unit was corroded badly, same situation on rear tire. There is a recall on the 2014 Dodge ram truck for this very issue. There are numerous situations recounted on the internet of exactly this issue for various model years of the Dodge Grand Caravan. Aside from the cost and inconvenience of having to replace the tpms sensor, if this were to happen at high speed a crash possibly with fatalities would likely occur. Dodge/Chrysler refuses to acknowledge this probably because it would be very costly for them to resolve and likely suits for wrongful death and negligence.

52 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

While driving the tpms warning light came on. At our earliest convenience we stopped at a service station to check the tires. I checked and/or added air to 3 of the tires, when I went to remove the valve stem cap on the 4th tire, the end of the valve stem broke off in my hand. Thankfully the break occurred on the outer portion of the stem so the needle valve is still in place and the tire still holds air. However I'm no longer able to check or add air to this tire. The metal on the valve stem appeared to be very corroded. Keep in mind this is on a van that is parked in a garage most of the time and not exposed to the elements as much as most other vehicles.

53 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

Car was in the shop for brake work. Mechanic informed me of cracks, splitting and corrosion of the collar that holds the valve stem and sensor in place on both rear wheels. Both valve assemblies were replaced. Approximately one year ago I had the drivers side front wheel vale assembly fail while I was on the road. The warning light came on and within seconds the tire was flat. Upon inspection it was found that the collar had failed ! the valve assemblies appear to be made of aluminum and are prone to corrosion. This is a very dangerous situation ! the replacement assemblies appear to be made of the same materials. This means they are prone to failure as well. Very unsafe!.

54 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/27/2014

I have three toms sensors nuts corrode and fall off my vehicle. I have paid out hundreds and have been lucky to not be going down a highway when it happens. Can't believe something has not been done thru Dodge to fix this issue.

55 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

Driving on local road, in chicago when I discover a tire is flat. I notice that the valve is badly corroded and that the nut that should be holding it in place is missing. While changing the tire the valve stem (tpms unit) falls into tire. The sudden flat was caused by corrosion of the tpms unit which caused it to be loose and tire pressure to drop. Research has shown this to be a common problem, existing for many years, that both Dodge and its assistant, the NHTSA, are ignoring.

56 Wheel problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/17/2014

Van began making loud, grinding noise. Noise seemed louder when steering more to the right. On visit to dealership for ignition recall issue, they looked at where noise was coming from - since they heard it when they drove van back to the service area. They said it was a wheel bearing / hub on right front. Dealership said van was not safe to drive. It could cause an accident. It was a safety issue. Is this a safety issue enough to be a recall issue?.

57 Wheel problem of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/02/2014

Humming noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. Took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that both rear wheel bearings need to be replaced. I have never had to replace wheel bearing on a car much less after only 43,500 miles.

58 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

While operating our 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan se at approximately 30 mph the rear drivers side tire's valve stem on the tire failed (occurred approximately 45 seconds after concluding highway driving). The nut holding the valve stem on appears to have broken causing the sensor to fall into the tire and resulted in the tire deflating immediately. This is the third sensor failure on the vehicle. Fortunately the first two occurred when the vehicle was stationary - airing up tires caused the stems to break in half. A call to the general Dodge customer service stated that they had never heard of this issue occurring. A call to my dealership stated that they replace the tpms sensors "everyday" due to failures and then proceeded to quote me $200+ for a sensor replacement which included "programming" the sensor which isn't even necessary on this vehicle. Dodge dealership had stated that several other vehicles in their lineup have switched over to tpms sensors using rubber valve stems. These are not available for our year Grand Caravan.

59 Wheel problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/19/2014

Upon noticing my tire was low, we started to unscrew the valve cap and the stem fell apart & part of it shot into my husband's shoulder. The tire went immediately flat. This was on my front tire. The piece just disintegrates in my hand. If this would have happened while driving it could have caused an accident.

60 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/25/2014

On two occasions in past three weeks. The tpms valve stems snapped off, resulting in the immediate deflation of a tire. Both incidents occurred while vehicle was being operated at low speeds (under 10 miles/hour).

61 Wheel problem of the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/13/2014

The tpms failed. The valve stem cracked off when adding air. Air was being added because the valve stem was leaking, and the tire was near flat, and I wanted to take it to a repair shop. This is the second tpms valve failure I have had. Fortunately, both occurred at a standstill. I see tales on the internet of failure at high speed, followed by vary rapid decompression and tire failure. Expensive, if not unsafe. In my own case, with over 50 years driving experience and 2 years as a mechanic, I have never seen a valve stem failure before. Now, I have two. Expert mechanics are advising to replace them with standard valves, and I will. From an economic view, the several failures of the stems, and stem failures, have cost me about 6 cents per mile. Gas has cost me about 18 cents per mile (at todays cost). Thus, the tpms system maintenance is about 1/3 of the gas cost. I doubt very seriously that the tpms system saves that much in gasoline use. But from a safety perspective, I am not willing to risk sudden depressurization followed by tire destruction at highway speeds. Thus, I will be pulling those out before my next highway trip. After talking with several mechanics, looking at the designs, and looking at experiences of others, I conclude that tpms is a good idea with a bad execution. If they are not (nearly as secure) as older valve stems, they should be DE-mandated. Finally, I note that at least some of these have Mercury in the package as a rotary switch. As much as we are spending to remove Mercury from the environment . . .

62 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/29/2013

The stem for the tpms had corroded through causing flat tire. Warning signaled low tire pressure went to remove the plastic cap and the stem had broken in half and was only held together with 1 thread of plastic cap.

63 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/14/2013

Low tire pressure light came on while driving 70 mph pulled over to check tire while checking the tire pressure in tire the tpms sensor/valve stem broke causing all of the air to escape from the tire.

64 Wheel problem of the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/08/2013

Real axle rusted out on right side causing the wheel brake loose in my driveway as I pulled in after going over a bump in my driveway as I came to a stop I had it repaired at a cost near $800 I can not access records at this but could if necessary.

65 Wheel problem of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/07/2013

Purchased this vehicle in sept 2013, immediately the second row, passenger-side seatbealt does not propel back. The seller of the vehicle, directed me to a mechanic to repair it but shortly after it occured again. Less than a year after purchase, the fuse/motor on the driver's seat just stopped and the seat is unable to be adjusted. Last week, went for repairs to front wheel bearing (tire popped directly off) and was advised the rear wheel bearing will also need to be replaced. Cannot tell if any of these are normal wear and tear or malfunctions with the vehicle, especially since I have only had it for 2 years.

66 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Dodge caravan. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph the tire sensor indicator warning light illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed the front driver's side tire was flat because the aluminum tire pressure sensor was fractured due to corrosion. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000. Rvk.

67 Wheel problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/23/2013

Both of the wheel bearings were completely worn out, causing grinding, harsh road noise, and clicking when turning. The bearings assembly have been reengineered by Dodge but they are not issuing any recalls. Dodge is making you replace both hubs at the same time. Failure of the wheel bearing while driving on the interstate can cause the vehicle to have an accident.

68 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/02/2013

On July 2, 2013 the tire pressure light went on. I went to put air in the driver's side front tire. The valve stem broke off resulting in a flat tire. I had the valve stem replaced at a cost of $140. 00. On August 20, 2013 the light came back on again. I took it back to good year. They told me the two valve stems on the passenger wheels, front/back were very corroded. They did manage to fill both tires for me. The light went off. Two days later, the light came on again. I went to fill the tires and the one valve stem broke off, another flat tire! put on the spare, drove home, called around and had to take it in to be fixed again. $700 later, 4 new tires, another tpms replaced, and an alignment. Two valve stem are still iffy, but they said they sealed okay. . . . . . . . I am nervous about allowing my wife and three small children to ride in this car with two more corroded valve stems. Who knows if they will pop off and cause an accident. I'm seeing other people have had the same problems. I believe a recall should be made to have this problem corrected. ~thank you.

69 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

Valve stem broke on front drivers side tire after parking it in the driveway. Tire went flat and had to replace valve stem, 1 month later the passenger front valve stem broke driving on the highway causing the tire to immediately go flat. Resulting in replacing tire and valve stem.

70 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/27/2013

Nut came loose from valve stem and tire deflated on 2 different oocasions while vehicle was moving.
