4 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 1996 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 02/21/2004

I have had this ongoing problem with my 1996 Dodge Intrepid with the brakes. First I thought I just needed new brakes. Well I had new brakes put on the car and then a week later, the brakes caught on fire. Which damaged the new brakes, the rotar, the calliper, and the spindle. Then two weeks later I took the car for the fuel regulater to be replaced and the rotars needed to be turned again already. Then in another week and a half the brakes caught on fire again. There is absolutely no sense in this kind of trouble with a brake system. I am a single mother and I have to drive my car with my son in there. It is my belief that if you are gonna make a product you should stand behind it. Engine wise the car seems to be fine runs like a charm but that doesnt do me a bit of good if I cant drive it. Among the fact that I cant afford to pay for all this trouble with it and pay for the car too.

7 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 1998 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 09/01/2002

1998 Dodge Intrepid--rack and pinion failed/broke. I had pulled up to the curb to retrieve the mail and as I turned the steering wheel to the right to pull away, I felt/heard a loud pop. The steering wheel was no longer connected to the rack and pinion as the r&p has failed/broken. The steering wheel would freely turn but the wheels were not moving. I had to have the car towed to the dealer who replaced the rack and pinion steering at a cost of $650. 00. Fortunately, the dealer split the cost with me as I had just bought the car (used) 30 days prior. I was still out $350. 00. My biggest concern is, what would have happened to my family, specifically my wife and my 2 year old son had that part failed while I was on the highway or in heavy city traffic. It could have cost us our lives. . . I also have a slight shimmy in the steering wheel when the brakes are applied. I'm guessing a warped rotor as I recall reading something about that being an Intrepid problem also. . . . I warn any of you who are having steering problems to get it fixed before you drive it. . . . The rack and pinion steering system that wont be recalled could have cost us our lives.

8 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2002 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 08/16/2002

We have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with the police package. The vehicle has 21,000 miles and we have replaced the brake rotors 4 times. We are a security firm and thus we have never been in a high speed chase and only drive the vehicle on residential streets. We have three other different vehicles and have not had brake problems with them. It was suggested by the dealer that we are misusing the brakes. I have talked with another police agency in the area and they have also had the same problems as we. I believe there is a problem with the brakes that come with the police package option.

21 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 1998 Dodge Intrepid

The front brakes on my Intrepid started pulsing at around 20,000 miles. The car was only 18 months old. The dealer said this was normal wear and would not warranty the repair. No after market parts were yet available, and I refused to put poor quality Dodge parts back on the car with no guarantee they would not warp again in another year. In my 20 years of driving I have never had a car need rotors until they had at least 75,000 miles. Interestingly enough Dodge stratus's were recalled for defective rotors, I bet some Intrepid rotors came from the same factory. I drove the car for another 10,000 miles, with the annoying pulse, until auto parts store stared carrying replacement rotors from reputable companies. I just recently put new pads and rotors on the car and the pulsing has gone away. Needless to say, I was not happy with Dodge and their lack of willingness to stand behind their product. I will not buy another Dodge until I am satisfied their customer service means buiness and is not just a series of flashy tv ads.
