We bought this car as the third owner the air bag light was on the cruise control didn't work and the horn wouldn't sound. After searching the internet, and finding out that they had many many of the internal pasts changed and the multitudes of people reimbursed, we took our car to the dealer and told because we were the third owner, and that the mileage was high, they would not accept responsibility. The car was never been in a accident, nor has it been abused. I think that because my horn can't work it may be a concern. I also think wile driving my air bag may deploy causing an insident. Both Dodge Intrepid , and other Dodges have the same problems. The problem can be resolved by paying 4-to5 hundred dollars to the consumer. I feel as though the cost and replacement of the part should go back to the manufacturer as it is an internal part in the steering that breaks with out warning and without any cause from outside sources I. E. Accedentsor other. Because not enough people contacted you, the manufacturer decided it wasn't good enough to be considered or issue a recall.

Air bag light came on , then no cruise control, no horn, air bag light stays on. Was told that there might be a recall on this peticular vehicle. Called dealership in bloomington, in. And was told that they didn't know and that they don't handle recalls.
I own a 2002 Intrepid which has a very serious problem with the cruise control. If I set the cruise say at 65 miles per hour it will surge to 70 or more miles per hour before it slowly comes back to 65 miles per hour. I have complained about this to the dealer who eventually replaced the cruise with a new one. There is no difference with the new one. It still surges when it is set. The dealer said there is nothing more they can do. This is very dangerous because I almost hit the car in front of me when I engaged the cruise. I had this problem since I bought the car new.
While driving at 60 mph on cruise control the vehicle shifted down. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop which could not determine the problem. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer on 7/1/2003.

Cruise control disengages intermittently while driving. Need to shut off engine and restart to re-engage cruise control. Have been to the dealer 3 times previously. First two times dealer could not duplicate problem. Dealer replaced coast switch on third visit. Problem reoccured after this part was replaced.
Wife backed out of a parking space in a mall parking lot. When she put the car in drive, car accelerated out of control. The car jumped two (2) mall parking medians before she was able to put the car in neutral. Tires were blown out on the left side from impacts with the medians. The left side wheels were damaged as was the body on the left side. On starting the car later, the engine began to race. The dealer and Chrysler acknowledge that there was a part failure in the cruise control. They both denied any responsibility for the failure.
I pulled out of a parking lot and drove about two blocks. My speed was about 20 mph. There was a red light ahead and I applied my breaks. Instead of stopping, my 2000 Dodge Intrepid sped up. I pushed harder on the break pedal, to no avail. The car sped through the intersection and slammed into another car. I mentioned this to the insurance agent and the car was checked out after it was repaired at the body shop. The Dodge dealer said the cruise control cable was broken as a result of my accident. I do not know what or why the car did not stop when I applied the brakes and then firmly applied the brakes. The only way I got the car to stop was to turn off the key.
