general problems of the 2009 Dodge Journey - part 1

I have issues starting it. New starter, new battery and it just dies. Luckily I was parked when it died. I have children, if it dies while driving I could be in a serious car crash with my children in the car. I do not want to die, I love my car but I do not want to be put in danger because of this type of issue. I also do not want to be stranded somewhere. Please help.

The vehicle has approximately 160,000 miles on it the only known issue with the vehicle was a power steering issue. Before the discovery of the fire, the owner had pulled into a gas station across town to add power steering fluid. Upon leaving the gas station, the owner reported that within a few blocks, he began seeing black smoke coming from under the hood, and there was an odd odor to the smoke. (review of oty video cameras confirmed this account) he pulled in the parking lot at the above-listed address and accessed the engine compartment to find fire on the power steering reservoir, the plastic engine cover, and the cooling fan. He attempted to extinguish the fire with a soda he had and then attempted to retrieve water from a nearby building. Upon returning with water, the fire was too large to extinguish. The scene examination revealed an engine compartment fire that had transitioned into the passenger compartment during the failure of the front windshield. The hood of the vehicle had completely melted away during the fire. Fire patterns in the engine compartment were consistent with the owners account of the fire. 09 Dodge Journey 3. 5l v6 issues started the day after I bought the vehicle!! will cut off while driving, stall and cut off at stop lights, stop signs. Way too much heat coming from motor, ac compressor making allot of noise. Overheating issues, brake light switch issue. Cruise control malfunction, driver’s window switch and window not working. Rear tv stopped working after a snow storm, rear ac/ heater not blowing at all, cars won’t shift out of park at all. Headlights stopped working. All lights flashed on and off while driving down the freeway at 80mph, now it’s saying gas cap on dash, while driving to a job the timing belt broke after being replaced 2 months earlier, water pump is leaking after being replaced 2 months ago. Water soaking the passenger and backseat floorboards and I can’t figure out why. This is honestly the worst vehicle I’ve ever bought and I regret buying it at all every day. This vehicle should be outlawed and against the law to sell to anyone.

Hi I bought this Dodge Journey on may 24 2021 since the first day I bought it the car started giving me problems the dealer wouldn't take the car back and in stuck with it the engine from the car is giving me problems it won't accelerate is very scary I'm very concerned because I got kids and also the car started smoking .

I have power door locks not working except manually or driver door by key. Key fob and door module for locks will not function. I cannot open the hatch due to power lock function. The airbag light comes on when vehicle is started and the door is open and only disappears after the door is closed, engine shut off then restarted. Also the engine light came on for awhile then off and is now back on. This is what code scan report says. Engine and transmission are p0420 catalyst efficiency (bank1), obdll codes ($03) is catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1. The airbag is u0172 lost commuication w/left side satellite accelerator sensor 1- stored. The door module- front right (dmfr) is b16a5 passenger window switch backlighting circuit high-stored. Not sure exactly what these all mean but I think the power locks are a safety issue along with the airbags. The power locks don't lock after driving it like they used to after driving so many feet.

I've gone through 6 batteries in 1 year and I still have to keep jumping my vehicle everytime I start it. I am currently stranded in walmart parking lot with no jumper cables and I am being forced to walk now. Also there are times when I am driving down the highway and at any given moment it acts as if I stomped on the brakes. The lights go off and on, the windows roll up and down, the door locks are out of control and the gauges on the dashboard go out of control as well. I recently bought a new tipm and ecm because when I replaced the battery it would no longer start. This vehicle is very dangerous and I'm sorry I ever bought it. It seems as if Dodge cares more about their money than a human life.

The gear will not shift unless I press the release button. After I took it for a recall in route 18 Dodge dealer east brunswick NJ, it came back without been able to shift. I asked the mechanic why my car is no moving, they said you have to press the release button and shift gears at the same. I told them I didn’t bring my car in like this. After I spoke to “mike” the manager, he said it was a matter of time. I’m scare for my life when driving because now is making all these sounds on the transmission.

While driving the engine caught fire. Dealer says it is not covered under recall. Even though I see other Dodge Journey recalls of same fire being recalled.

There was a recall on the airbags & airbag module. . They supposedly replaced. . The electrical wire is now messed up bc the airbag light keeps coming on & off, the drivers side front door control lock to lock the car will not work, now engine light comes on & off and the transmission was replaced, all new components, driving the car on Jan 4th 2020 & the engine just stops on me at traffic light. . This car has had nothing but problems after problems from the 1st day I bought it from the sales agent that lied to me about everything. . There are recalls on my car that still never got replaced. . I am the new owner of this 2009 Dodge Journey sxt on (2/16/2018). . I was told I'm the 2nd owner, I am the 4th owner and was lied about if this car was in a accident. . It was in a accident to do with the transmission stopping and the ppl that had this car b4 me the report says it was side swiped passenger side on (10/18/2017). . Found out more about the car I bought was in a major flood so someone didn't tell the truth & I was sold a car that has water damage & they covered it up and I been complaining since I bought this car. . . Something isn't right with this car & I got ripped off, this car the transmission stopped on me and I almost got in a bad car accident. . I've had a mechanic at a Dodge dealership tell me & my dad I was sold a car that has water damage etc. . . I am having problems with the airbag light on & off and this was a recall and should be redone, the engine light is faulty and the steering wheel and electrical still, along with the fob ignition switch. .

After driving home from my house to my mom, in the morning I went to start the car and it would crank on but not fully start. It's been doing that for the past three days can't move my car out of start because it's not fully turning on.

For the millenth time since purchasing this car in 2014 it failed to start again!!! I have had ever mechanic under the sun check electrical connections, batteries, starters, alternators, fuses etc. They find nothing wrong but the car continues to simpley not start. I've read a lot of people have the same problem with this car. Did anyone ever figure out why and what Dodge is doing about it? sometimes it happens when my car is parked angled. Sometimes on flat pavement. I got stuck with my newborn daughter shortly after I purchased the car and went back to depaula dealer I purchased it from in albany NY and they apologized and said they checked everything and nothing is wrong with the car. I'm scared to be stuck with my kids somewhere and honestly tired of sending it to the mechanic only to hear they can't find anything wrong. Any ideas or directions to give the mechanic would be great. Does Dodge actually have the answer and just don't want to issue a recall. I don't care if I have to pay to get it fixed. Car experiences intermittent ignition failure. While stationary with key in ignition, it will click but not start. We have replaced the battery, alternator, and starter but it continues to have issues starting over the past 3 months. Sometimes it will start fine, but other times it takes several tries over a period of 30 minutes. The mechanics cannot find the solution to this problem even when able to duplicate the issue.

Just replaced battery. Was working and starting fine after replacing for a few weeks. Went to work yesterday morning and left for lunch with no issues. Went to start car to return to work after lunch and wouldn't turn over at all. I would turn the key and get one click but not turning over. My radio, lights and windows all work when key is in the on position. Charged the battery for nearly 40 minutes and still no start only a click. Have also had on-going issues with wiring harnesses throughout vehicle.

Everytime I brake my vehicle it jerks. Ive replaced my brakes and this issue still happens. Also a few times ive had my vehicle turn off with all lights on while I was at a stop light and a couple days ago it wouldnt start after two attempts to start then on the third attempt it started.

Car cuts off while in motion. This is an issue that many owners have had. Dealerships say it was "released too early and it has a lot of bugs in the system" I have had my kids in the car every time this has happened!!! was almost in a wreck this time at my daughter's school. Also, car will not start sometimes unless I put it in gear and "trick" it. I have replaced the starter numerous times thinking that was it. . . . Has cut off when on the highway, residential street, parking lots, in motion and stationary. . . Happens often.

When the vehicle is in motion, the horn blows like you are holding the horrn down. This has happened several times n traffic on the highway. It also has happened when the vehicle was stationary in the middle of the night. While we were sleeping. We thought someone was stealing it. At least 4 times it went off. Took the vehicle to the dealership in oct. 2017 they took out the horn fuses. Because it blowed all night and it killed the battery. They called it the ghost horn. So I'm driving around now in this vehicle without a horn.

I had to have transmission replaced which I filed a complaint already and since that the esp , all wheel drive, skidding and another light keeps coming on and off and my brakes only work half the time and now my driver window wont go up or down or mirror work and today my car wont start. My husband checked fuses they are good but have no power to over half of them. I called tate Dodge they want another 1102. 00 just for me to but the tipm part and do the work myself. I cant break a fuse box and do not feel this is fair and unless I replace then my car dont work now.

Car has had to have brakes multiple times for excess wear and problems with caliper, engine runs rough and hesitates to accelerate at speeds over 45 miles per hr, checkengine comes on and flashes and the goes solid, codes show up as po202 with definition of cylinder 2 injector electrical circuit unit had a fault lodged or was disconnected for predetermined time. This car is costing me an arm and leg.

Recall the starters! I am sick of bwing syranded because our car won't start!!!! this is an issues for thousands of people!.

I was on i95 doing 70 miles an hour and my car stayed in drive and all the sudden started going in reverse. Backing me up on the highway. I had tractor trailers flying all around me. Cars going around me running off shoulder to keep from hitting me. I tried emergency brake to stop. I tried again once I got to 20 it started going in reverse again. They said it was a internal transfault and it grinding metal into my transcooler that will need to also be replaced with the transmission. If its internal and no fault of mine and almost killed me and I do not ever want to drive on a highway again from fear. Why should I have to pay for it. This should be a recall and they should have to fix it. I am very angry and upset and not rich.

Takata recall - was driving down the road at 40 mph. Car began to idle high, pulled over to shoulder and turned off the car. Opened the hood, smelled burning electrical smell. Closed the hood, tried to start the car. No start, lights on but would not start. Tried to put it in nuetral, still no start. Vehicle was towed 15 miles to my apartment complex.

My 2009 Dodge Journey sxt will completely shut off while driving, not stopped but right in the middle of driving. This has happen 2 times sense getting it back from the dealer in January from taking it in for the recall for this very problem. This is very dangerous and now I am being told to bring it back to the dealership for a diagnostic test to see if it related to the recall and if not related then I will have to pay for the diagnosis lol yea right!! I have never heard of a car dying while driving it. If I am told I have to pay as mich as one penny the only thing I will be paying for is a lawyer.

While driving at a speed of 45 mph on a road that is rated for 55 mph, the left driver side tire separated from the car. While trying to control the car by hitting the brakes the car speed began to increased.
