36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

Upon purchase of this vehicle, rotors and brakes needed to be replaced. One year later, brakes again needed to be replaced and now rotors need to be replaced as car shakes when you brake.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2013

I don't even know where to start with this car. I bought this car and have had nothing but problems. The latest issue aside from the constant brakes it the electrical. Since I bought the car sometimes it doesn't start, the dash lights come on and off and power drops and comes back on in the car. Thank god it has not turned off in traffic. There has been a noise from the wheels forever and now its getting louder. I wish that Dodge would fix these issues!! all electrical should be check immediately in these cars because as I read others issues it is very dangerous and it seems they are waiting for reports of accidents and death before taking any action. This is ridiculous!!!.

38 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2013

I am currently the owner 2010 Dodge Journey awd. I have had to replace tires, brakes, and rotors numerous times; noise from driver door, windows rolling down and doors unlocking by themselves, hard shifting in automatic transmission, car pulsates/steering wheel vibrates violently when braking starting at about 40 mph. I have frequent problems with the locks and alarm when temperatures drop below 40 f, car does not always lock or unlock using either key fob or by pressing button in car, must press it multiple times. Lock mechanism could be heard attempting to turn, lock next to window appeared to be jumping slightly. I have been having problems with my car not starting for several months. I would have to take the key fob out, turn it around, and insert it again. It shut off on me as I was driving 65mph on a main highway. . Almost causing a crash. Ran a diagnostic and it came back that my module was bad, I checked online and it seems there was a recall on this module but only for the "ring. " I contacted the Chrysler and after two weeks of going back and forth with them and the dealership, they informed me they would not help due to high mileage and out of warranty. We are told only dealerships can get this part, install it, and program it. My google searches on this issue shows way too many results for this not to be a serious issue that Chrysler refuses to take responsibility for. A recall needs to be done on this part as well with all of the 2010 Dodge Journey's not just the ones from a certain plant. Once I turn off the car, you can hear the computer shutting itself down and making all kinds of noise, then it appears to reboot, the radio will turn on and stays on for five min. The automatic starter starts on it's own once you shake the key fob. . No need to press the button anymore?! khumo tires on this vehicle have been replaced twice in one year.

39 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Vehicle was running and suddenly lost all electrical power. Car was moved to shoulder of roadway and I turned the engine off. The engine didn't want to restart. When engine did restart car ran normal for about 1 month. This has happened about 5 times from 6/13 to 10/14. Dealer can not find the problem. Ignition is not on recall list for this particular VIN. I had dealer replace ignition on 10/14 and had to purchase two additional keys because the old keys could not be programmed to the new ignition switch.

40 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2013

I have owned this Journey for little over 2 yrs now and have had 8 sets of brakes and rotors put on. Tie rods have always been known to go bad on any and all Dodges and the tires have been replaced 3 times now as well. Sued Dodge once already after trying to lemon law this pos. Is it going to take a family such as mine dying to make Dodge fix this problem. We people cannot afford to spend 300-500 every few months to get brakes and rotors fixed. Pay a ton of money for a vehicle and shouldn't have to fix something as simple as brakes and rotors because these so called Smart engineers couldn't figure out that the same brakes and rotors off of a Dodge avenger shouldn't be put on a Dodge Journey 7 passenger vehicle. Our government should close these kinda places down before we people decide to do it ourselves because next time my brake and rotors need replaced I am driving it back to Dodge where I got it and they aren't gonna like me and the news will be with me as well. What they should have to do for our inconvienences is give us all brand new cars comparable to ours now or a new Dodge Journey with the new brakes and rotors on them because I have seen them and the brakes and rotors are much much bigger than the teeny tiny ones I got on my car. But that would be too easy because they want us to spend our hard earned money because we have no choice and when we try and trade it in they bone us because they know its worth crap.

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2013

We have had the brakes done two times now.

42 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2013

The braking system makes a loud crunching noise and gets mushy when you're on a slippery surface making it hard to stop.

43 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2012

I have a 2010 Dodge Journey that has brakes and rotors changed twice in 24,000 miles due to warping causing shaking to the steering wheel when the brakes are applied. Dodge recognized the problems and has extended the warranty to 36,000 miles but has not found and/or offered a root cause and permanent repair to the problem. What happens after 36,000 miles? someone needs to put pressure on Chrysler to fix this design flaw that will ultimately cause accidents from this issue. An internet search "Dodge Journey brake problem" will show you the magnitude of this problem with Dodge Journeys.

44 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

Purchased Dodge Journey in December of 2011. Have only driven 11,300 miles. Bought 4 new tires two months ago. Have been keeping up with all regular maintenance to the vehicle. Wheel shakes tremendously when applying the brakes. Also, car drags when releasing the throttle. A car cut me off and I had to brake fast. Brakes didn't feel like they were working properly.

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2012

The check engine keeps on coming on and staying on. I have noticed problems with the car losing power while I am driving or accelerating; this has happened several time. I recently had to replace the brakes and rotors; it drives horribly every time I tried to stop the car would tremble. I expected the car to not have these problems as it is fairly new and I do not consider it to have alot of mileage. I am really concerned about these problems as I drive my car with three small children. I don't have the money to keep taking it for a diagnostic each time the light comes on; if the company is aware of this problem; they shouldn't charge people so much to check the codes or they should have a recall to fix the ongoing problems.

46 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2012

Purchased used Dodge 2010 Journey from dealership in may 2012, returned vehicle about 2weeks later to have service department check for ticking noise on drivers side when driving. Service department checked vehicle and said they didn't hear anything and it just may be wind noise when I drive at a certain speed. One month later, I needed brakes-front rotors that were bad. I had my mechanic to replace and he did apologize that I had purchased a lemon and had to spend out money for brakes already. Needed 2 rear tires by July 2012, they had never been rotated but I accepted for not doing enough homework on purchase. Now at 50,000 miles, car just cuts off, wont start until hours later, and diagnostic test does not show any codes or problems.

47 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2012

I have had my tires replace about every 25,000 miles the are wearing really bad on the inside I have had alignments done and there is no issue with the alignment I have spent over $1000 on tires not sure if it is caused by the brakes and rotors being bad. I've had them replaced twice also.

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2012

Nthsa, good morning, I have been experiencing concerns regarding the braking system on my 2010 Dodge Journey. When driving at speeds over 55 mph on the highway and having to apply the brakes the steering wheel begin to shake back and forth and this is somewhat alarming to both me and my wife. I have had many vehicles in the past and I have not ever experienced this before. Is there a recall on the braking system or should we be alarmed and more importantly what should be done? contact Dodge and file a complaint or ask them if their is a recall on the braking system? please assist? sincerely, mr. Frederick rott msgt retired usmc.

49 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2012

It was a Saturday morning (about 9am) and I am driving about 70 miles to my destination, the brakes felt like they were applied for about 1-2 seconds then released without my foot anywhere near the brakes, the steering wheel pulls me but I am able to take control of the vehicle. I continue for about another 5 more miles, and it happens again, this time more violently. I was doing the same speed as before, about 70 mph and vehicle was travelling in the second left lane and the lanes were veering to the left. The brakes applied at a much stronger rate and again, I almost lost control of the vehicle, feeling as though the vehicle was pulling me to the left as if to intend to spin out of control. Luckily, I was able to re-gain control of the vehilce. I called normandin again, they towed my vehicle to the dealership and after 3 weeks of having it and "driving the vehicle hard", they were not able to replicate the incident that occured to me, therefore, unable to pinpoint the cause. They advised me that the back rotors need to be replaced as they are shaking but that the extended warranty only covers the front. I would have to pay out of pocket for the rearafter 3 weeks, I have my husband drive the car home from the dealer (the warranty only covers tow's to the dealership, not from the dealership). The car sat in the parking garage since that day and it is now June, 2012 and I refuse to drive it any more.

53 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

I just bought a 2010 Dodge Journey for my family one month ago and the brakes are already giving me problems. The brakes were fine when I first bought the vehicle one month ago. I am having severe vibrations in the steering wheel as a result of the rotors being warped. The car only has about 22600 miles on it and the rotors should not be warped at this point in the car's life. When braking down steep hills, the car vibrates so bad that it sounds like an 18-wheeler using its jake brake down a hill. I read online after the problem started and Dodge has 2 lawsuits against them for inadequate brakes in the Dodge Journey. I am extremely angry that I just bought this car based on it's many safety options and now I am having these problems that could put my family in danger or cost me a great deal of money.

54 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the wheels would shake abnormally when decelerating. The contact stated the failure would also occur when the contact decelerated and attempted a turn. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the shaking was caused by the front brakes and rotors. The contact believed the failure to be a manufacturing defect because of the mileage of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 14,000.

60 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2011

I had major pulsating / vibrating when braking on my 2010 Dodge Journey after only 16k. I discovered this is a common problem, there are many complaints and even a few class action lawsuits alleging the brake were under engineered / under sized for this car, at least on the 2009 & 2010 models. I was pleased to learn that Chrysler extended the warranty (acknowledging the problem) on the brakes for these vehicles, but was not pleased to find out that 1) they want you to pay a $50 or $100 "deductible" to fix the problem (that they acknowledged by extending the warranty) 2) the warranty is only extended to 36k miles and 3) that the warranty only applies to the front brakes and my rear brakes were also warped, which I argue is the result of the front brakes being undersized in the first place. . . How else do you explain warped front and rear rotors on a vehicle only 1 yr old and only 16k miles? I paid the $50 deductible for the front brakes, plus $199 + tax (rear brakes) to get back on the road, and promptly called Chrysler customer service to pitch a fit and let them know what I though about having to pay one cent out of my pocket for a problem that is well documented and they acknowledged (by extending the warranty). I eventually received a full reimbursement from Chrysler for the full amount I paid, including their $50 "deductible". I was very happy with this resolution, but still disappointed that I had to even pay out of pocket and initiate the complaint in the first place to get reimbursed, when they are fully aware of the issue. Fast forward less than 1 year later and about 14k miles later exact same problem. Unacceptable. I now have to go through this again, and I am not happy. Chrysler should issue a recall and replace the brakes on these vehicles! this is a safety issue. Enough with the half @$$ attempt of "extending warranties" and "deductibles".

61 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

I have had to replace front and rear brakes on this vehicle at a huge expense and the poor stopping ability caused premature wear of my tires which also had to be replaced at a large expense. Also, on multiple occasions my vehicle will not crank when the key is turned. The lights, radio, and windows continue to work, ruling out the battery as the cause. You can hear a "click" when the key is turned but the car remains dead. I have been stranded in dangerous situations when this has happened. Each time the vehicle has been taken to service, no remedy is made as I am told that the problem can not be duplicated. The vehicle is currently in for repair with the same issue. I have asked to have the electrical system checked because I have had issues with multiple bulbs blowing out, (all at the same time), one window not raising or lowering from the passenger button only and a multitude of other quirky, electrical items. I feel that this vehicle is unsafe .

62 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Vehicle has been in the shop 4 times for uneven braking and premature brake wear. Braking becomes difficult and unsafe after 10-12k miles. We are on our 3rd set of brakes and rotors in 35k miles. Vehicle shutters and braking distances become significantly higher than normal after a short time.

63 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

I do not for the life of me understand why there has not been a recall issued for the 2010 Dodge Journey for the brake, tire, and rotor issue! I have had to replace the tires which were an arm and a leg because they are not a common tire/size , they wanted me to switch to a different tire size which then would affect the speedometer. . No way. . I have had to put 3 sets of rotors on the car and 2 sets of brakes, and going on 2nd set of tires. . You can't tell me there isn't an issue. . If I could get rid of the lemon I would but financially I am not in a position to. I have a friend with an identical car/color and we have the same story. . Ridiculous! please help the owners of this lemon!.

64 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2011

With less than 6000 miles on my 2010 Dodge Journey, I noticed that the steering wheel was beginning to shake when the brakes were applied. When I took the vehicle in to have the tires rotated, I had the dealership that I bought this vehicle from look at the problem. They told me that the front rotors were warped and had to be replaced. This vehicle is not driven hard, the brakes are not slammed, no jack rabbit starts. I find that the rotors needing to be replaced with less than 6000 miles on the vehicle unacceptable. I feel that this vehicle is unsafe, and the brakes are one of the most important safety features on a vehicle.

65 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2011

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. While pulling out of the driveway, the contact heard a squeaking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the brake pad was replaced. In addition, the brake booster hydraulic system failed and needed to be replaced. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,883.

66 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2011

Premature brake wear.

67 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

Brakes went out at 14,074; then again at 20,811 miles; and again at 36,201. The vehicle is two years old.

68 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2011

Rotors are warped causing a shaking, wobbling steering wheel when applying brakes. So far, 3 sets of rotors have been put on this vehicle (1 from factory and 2 follow on sets by dealer due to continual failure of rotors. . . ) there are only 21000 miles on this Journey and it will soon need a 4th set of rotors. The persistence of rotor failure makes it hard to steer the car safely as the steering wheel shimmies violently when applying the brakes. The rotor failures are also causing unsafe, premature and uneven wear on the tires. In all, the 2010 Journey is unsafe to drive because of the consistent rotor failures. I do not know what do do.

69 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2011

Does not start all the time they replaced starter shows low tires , on ice . Tailgate open door open 3 sets of tires and brakes under 100,00 miles they can never find anything wrong they parts at it I'm paying the $100. Every time . Dodge keeps saying they will help , talk is cheap !! you think they would try to find out whats wrong instead of throwing parts at it !have the Journey at lease 50 times it never has been fixed . I have the lemon of lemons , at the point never to buy a Dodge , Jeep or chysler ever again !!!!.

70 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2011

Just made a left hand turn from a traffic light . A car approximately 100ft. Down the road was waiting to make a left hand turn into a driveway. When I put my foot onto the brake pedal it went all the way down to the floor. My vehicle could not stop and I ended up running right into the other vehicle. I did not know what happened. The vehicle was taken in for an inspection and nothing could be found wrong with the braking system.
