general problems of the 2014 Dodge Journey - part 1

My rear back up camera going bad again I had it replace a few yrs ago and it is doing the same thing again, picture is upside down at times or the image is doing a horizontal rolling making it unusable or going blank and also is distracting when trying to back up and the image catches your eyes while backing up.

My reverse lights, rear wiper and plate light have all stopped working due to severed wires in the liftgate wiring harness at the hinge area. This is a faulty design by Dodge, a safety concern and an issue that is widespread and reported on the internet.

The abs module has failed. There was a recall r61 issued previously for this issue of moisture causing abs module failures. The original recall was completed on this vehicle [xxx]. There is no documentation that the abs module itself was replaced at that time since this is a tiered recall. The abs module has now failed and there is evidence on the electrical plug that moisture was present during a recent inspection by an ase certified mechanic. I took the car to academy cjd dealership in tipton, indiana and they refused to perform the recall again since it supposedly had already been completed. They wanted to charge me a fee to 'diagnose' further. I contend that even though the recall or partial recall was previously completed, the abs has failed due to the issue the original recall was supposed to prevent. I have a picture of the abs electrical connector showing evidence of shorting due to moisture. Please let me know if Dodge should be required to complete the recall again, since the abs failed again. When trying to start the car in the past every now in then I would get a one click and no start I tried to shift into neutral and nothing the same , I played with the button by turning g off and back on a few time and it would start and it started to get harder to get it to start and now it will only click and no start , I replaced the battery and starter was checked out and is good all battery ends are new and new battery cables , I know google is no auto mechanic but the post I have read there is a lot of Dodge Journeys that has this issue when I called Dodge I was told to bring it in and I will be charged , also about every 4th time I hit the door locks from the door as soon as the door shuts the horn beeps 3 times and all the doors unlock , need help please from what I am understanding it's something to do with the anti theft or the neutral safety switch inside the transmission ,.

Under heavy braking conditions the vehicles abs system did not engage and the vehicle slid losing control. There was a safety recall r61 which was documented as completed 20 may 2016, but inspection of the abs ground wire shows it in its original position when compared to page 18 of the recall instruction. There has been no work on the abs module since the recall.

Suddenly brown smoke came out when I started a car and tried to roll down the window. My husband pulled out the controller which seems to be the cause of the smoke from the wire.

The vehicle then shut off temporarily. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

The headrest deployed for no reason. It hurt my neck really bad. Luckily I was at a red light or im might have crashed.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by the independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

The contact’s son owns a 2014 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact then stated that on numerous occasions after the vehicle stalled, the vehicle needed to be jumpstarted each time he turned off the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that he was unable to turn off the headlamps and the key fob failed to operate. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that water prevented the fuel from entering the fuel pump and the fuel injector and an unknown engine component needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that all the recalls were previously performed, and no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,400.

My car is showing signs of electrical malfunctioning. My Journey stopped at a traffic light and would not turn back on. It was like the battery had died. When I gave it a jump, the lights would come on but not start. Once the cables were taken off the car would die again. Randomly after letting it rest, the car started and I took it to the shop to get the alternator checked. They kept it for about two days and I was told that the alternator was good. The car also never cut off while they had it. A few days later, while driving the car kept glitching on and off. The screen in the car (radio) would go completely blank. When it came back on it was reset to a default time and radio station. A few days later the Journey would drive fine but only for a short distance. Today my car stopped once again at a stop light. After trying to give it a jump the lights would come on (as long as it was hooked up to another car) but once the cables were off the car would be completely dead. I will be taking it to Dodge soon to get a diagnostic test ran. Is there any suggestions or information I should know about before taking it to get tested?.

I purchased this car in 2020 through jd byrider of janesville WI, I am making payments currently. In February of 2022 my battery light kept coming on and the radio wouldn't work. I called my dealership and due to having a 30,000 mile warranty I took it in, and they told me it was my battery so as far as I was told they replaced with a new one. It was fine with no issues up until a month ago, my battery light comes on, I notice the wipers and the windows work really slow during this time. Once I drive for a little bit it eventually goes off. Today when I went to head to work it will not read my key fob. I had to touch the top of my fob at the opposite end of the unlock and lock buttons to the start button to start my car. I left my car running at the gas station and it did detect the key had left the vehicle but when I got back into the vehicle the beeping did not go off like usual when the key is back inside the vehicle. I just want to make sure that all of the recalls that were on there had been taken care of. Thanks.

While I was driving the car suddenly lost power steering and acceleration, the bolts broke off from the pulley and the serpentine belt came off while driving down a busy street.

The brake and steering failed while I was attempting to slow down to turn right. The car failed to stop and the car failed to turn so I jumped a curb and caused extensive damage to bottom of car.

I had the cruise control recall done on my vehicle in 2018, but it never really fixed the issue. I wasn't aware there was only a 2 year warranty on the work done, and that would have put it in 202 when everything was pretty much closed down. I contacted Dodge and they said there was nothing they could do about it. I know another recall was r61 / NHTSA 15v-675 abs ground wiring issue which got "fixed. " now, I am having an abs, skid control, brake light issue. I took my car to the shop and they are charging me $180 just to find out the issue. I received a call from the mechanic and he proceeded to tell me the parts needed are on backorder and may be available in March 2022, which will cost close to $2k to repair. I was also advised by the mechanic this is a common issue across Dodge, crystler Jeep. If that is the case, which it seems to be since I have been looking online and there have been a lot of complaints, why is this not a recall? why, if Dodge messed up when producing vehicles between certain years, do the consumers have to pay to get this fixed? I don't think it is right and I think if Dodge isn't going to take responsibility and issue a recall on this then there needs to be a class action suit against Dodge. I intend to start doing some legal research to find out what the process is to do this. I can't believe a dealership can charge someone $180 to run a diagnostics on the vehicle when they know what the issue is, since it is common, plus being able to charge almost $2k to repair. The issue is with the abs pump and module, and this has to be done at the dealership since it is electrical and needs to be hooked up to the computer to calibrate or what ever.

Tipm caused several issues, blown motor, and now is in the dealership shop for an alternator, battery, ground strap and other wiring issues. I haven’t had my car for over a year due to this.

Fire risk of wiring breaking at upper right corner at liftgate (rear hatch door) wiring is breaking within rubber boot. This cause a fire risk. Other issues is rear lights failure. This hazard has high risk of rear end collisions. This wire breakage has very dangerous outcome but easy to recall and save lives. I will be fix my wife car before this car gets my family killed. Unknown car just stopped working and turned off.

Front driver side door wiring caught on fire while driving, which now none of the windows work.

Due to opening and closing the rear hatch, the wiring harness wires running from the car through the hatch break and fray causing many issues. One being the potential for exposed wires to spark and cause a fire. Others being faulty rear windshield wiper and faulty rear lighting. Brake lights, turn signals, running lights and rear interior lights causing a road hazard.

When I placed car in park few minutes later a warning light came on and then went off but keeps popping back looks like a person wearing seat belt and ball in front them.

While driving the anti skid showed on instrument panel as off then a lightning symbol came in and car went into limp mode nit letting me accelerate much at all so I was forced to pull off the road. As it went into limp it deaccelerated very quickly causing a traffic problem before I could get off to thr side.

I was driving home from shopping, and the trac control, and a lighting bolt light came on, and I had no acceleration power, I was nearly home, so I drove on to my house and parked it.

Unknown ,check engine light came on the screen blacked out and began to stall out on freeway doing 55 . Was afraid of getting rearended.

The electrical system fails off and on connect to rear hatch door and rear hatch door lock releases and the hatch door opens while driving. I lose the ability to get the electric lock to relock the hatch door. A few days later the electrical issue changes then the hatch door will lock again. Very dangerous situation. . . . When hatch flys open.

Refuses to start. No click, no turn over, dead. Stationary. Parking lot. New battery. Multiple times. Known issue by Chrysler.

So when I am driving down the street or on the freeway at an accelerated rate and then I start to push on the brakes to slow down to either come to a stoplight or an exit of the freeway and to either turn left or right the car will cut off but also stay on the engine completely cuts off and the steering wheel locks but the radio the air conditioner everything else stays on inside the car the ignition it self stays on �run� it's a push start. I then have to put my car in park and turn off then back on and hope it doesn't happen again, but it does.

While investigating a problem of a non-working backup light, it was discovered that several (7) wires from the body to the rear deck hatch are broken in the lift gate accordion. Dealer servide manager said they have seen several cases of this - an internet search confirms this is extensive.

Power window control on driver side will stop working and not allow the windows to close back up. Power locks stopped working. I have noticed that the power cord going from the door to the body of the car keeps disconnecting from the body of the car. This feature happens when the car is in park or going down the road and drive.

My 2014 Dodge Journey was parked in my garage, I tried to start up the car and it did not want to turn on. On the dash the following appeared and flashed several times before turning off: a red lightning bolt and airbag. The transmission light also flashed in yellow however it did stay on. I tried again several times. It kept giving me the message to service park assist. . I read some forums online as more people have experienced this issue with their Dodge Journey?s (ranging from 2009-2016 models) two gentlemen stated if you place the car in neutral and then start the vehicle it would crank up however my car did not. The brake pedal seems stuck and extremely hard to press down as well but that?s usually like that for me on any given day to start my car. I attempted to start up the vehicle again and the dash then stated it did not detect the key but the key was inside the car with me, again all lights turning on, flashing and then turning off. I am aware there are some previous and more recent recalls with this vehicle. Also when I open the door to get in the dash display just has a picture of the brake and push to start. Doesn't have any words with it anymore. Also when going thru the menu everything is blank except there is a 1 where there is a message for the park assist service. Worst part is I drove the car the day before with no problems. If I try to use the remote start it still doesn't work and then the tail lights flash fast and almost like they are trying to short out.

As I was driving my car on the city street I lost acceleration power, the traction light and the red lightning bolt came on. My car speed decreased and will not accelerate to over 12 miles an hour. I was on a city street with a speed limit of 40 miles an hour when the power decreases and another vehicle almost ran into my truck as I was trying to make it through the intersection. My car has coded the saying that my throttle needed to be replaced. The throttle was replaced and the car traction light and the lightning bolt still appeared on the dash. The car will not increase to over 12 miles an hour. My car is at the shop and the mechanic has diagnosed that the electrical issues should be on recall because there has been at least 6 Dodge's that he has repaired with the same issue.

While cleaning my vehicle in my drive way I noticed a compartment under my steering wheel showing. I then took it too a Dodge dealership for a recall that I received in the mail and I also asked about the cloth like material showing under my steering wheel. The young man notified me that it was the airbag coming out from under the steering wheel as well as a sensor/electrical problem. I am a new mom to be and having a newborn in this vehicle is unexceptionable. This vehicle is only a few years old with so many recalls. Im so disappointed.

The radio will randomly turn stations and just completely go black. The a/c turns itself on and off. The airbag lights keep randomly coming up and then go away. This all happens rather I'm driving fast, slow, or stopped at a light and has happened since purchasing the car a year ago. I'm also having an issue with the check engine light coming on with it being the p0420. I only use mid grade gas and only from exxon or chevron. I also make sure the gas cap is on tightly. The check engine light will be on one day and not the next.

I am aware there are some previous and more recent recalls with this vehicle and I've had two repaired however the dealer does not make it easy for the job to be done, either parts need to be ordered and are not in to someone not reaching out when they're ready as well as being told my car would need to stay there overnight to several days as they were extremely busy which does not work for me. I am not sure what the problem is but it seems to be electrical (unknown). 12/07/2019 I tried to start up the vehicle once again and still does not turn on, transmission light and airbag light both stay on.

The back up camera is intermittent and does not work. The outside temperature gauge is off by 20 degrees the tire pressure gauge does not work. This all happens when the vehicle is started. The back up camera does not work when I put it in reverse.
