general problems of the 2014 Dodge Journey - part 1

I was informed that it was the transmission. The vehicle does not advance going 5 mph. The vehicle stopped working in a busy intersection and I had to pull over into a parking lot. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone.

Viscous unit for awd Dodge Journeys has been failing causing a clunking and chunking noise. Causing the car jerk on takeoff or on turns. From what others been having issues with is the same thing. Causing a risk of a crash of the rear differential cracking and breaking free from the car. I had to replace the rear axle bdorc/viscous unit on my car already, again from what I read from other owners, they have been having the same issue. And some are worse than others. I fear that it may cause danger to the occupants inside the car and around.

My complaint is I just had an oil change which I have done every 3000 miles since I own this car. I took car in December 9th for an oil change and after, the car started leaking oil all over. I took it back to richlonn's service which indicated that the cooler/oil filter housing was cracked, it cost me $1,382. 93 to repair. The cooler/filter housing is located above exhaust manifold which had to be removed to replace, I think this is a fire hazard, not only that, I found out, Chrysler has had problems with these plastic housings, over the years did they withhold information from the NHTSA. ? if you check amazon just look at the number of people that had to replace these units. I'm [xxx], driving [xxx] years all the cars that I owned I never heard of a oil housing cracking. I just check with amazon, but if you look into it at other service centers you will see how many have been repaired! The car will completely stop/stall out (odometer drops to 0) at a stop whether it’s a stop sign, red light, traffic. I have to put it into park and press the button to restart it again, and sometimes it will stall out again once putting it back into drive if I don’t immediately drive off pressing the gas pedal.

Traction control goes off without warning at random times. In different weather conditions for no reason. Car jerks and will no longer accelerate. Have cause several dangerous situations while driving this car.

The headrest deployed for no reason. It hurt my neck really bad. Luckily I was at a red light or im might have crashed.

My rear view camera started to flicker and the picture would sometimes be upside down. This happened for a while before it totally stopped working. Replaced the camera with an oem part in 2021and it worked fine for about two years. Then same issue. Dodge says I need to replace the camera again.

Malfunction deployed head rest while driving, hit with force back of head, pushing head forward.

My car keeps on shutting off when I try to slow down and there is nothing on the car thats saying something is wrong with it.

C2200/49 abs module internal failure code comes, along with traction control comes and goes at the same time and have learned that it is a known issue for my vehicle models from 2009-2020. High failure rate and cost is astronomically high 900 dollars to replace and programming. It all started when I accidentally ran up on a curb in October.

When driving down the road, all of a sudden I felt a huge jerk, and heard a loud noise. I thought that we had got hit from the back of the vehicle. However, we had not been hit. My passenger seat's headrest had deployed. It looks as if the brackets inside had broken. I could have wrecked my car and injured my children inside because it was so sudden and scared me!.

Rear view camera intermittently displays a fuzzy or upside down screen that limits my ability to view what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Note, I received recall notice 22s06/NHTSA recall 22v082 for anther vehicle with the same problem so I'm not sure why there wasn't a recall on the Dodge Journey.

After getting oil changed/air filter replaced and 4 new tires, vehicle has stalled out every day since while running (less than week) it is now stalling out while driving!! happened while I was driving on the highway. Extremely dangerous. Car usually will restart. But 95% of the time it continuously sounds like it’s trying to turn over until I push the ignition button to turn off. I am currently stuck on the side of the road for about a half hour because it won’t start back up. I have had this car less than a year!.

Crankshaft sensor failure has failed. It is not covered from the insurance companies and causes other systems to fail. It causes the car to smoke and have a heavy odor (said to be oil by the technician). It also causes the car to have situations with starting, shifting gears and almost cutting off as a person is driving. If speed limit is 60mph it will not transfer gear till it is ready. So imagine going 40mph on a 60mph road and it is in stall mode. Stall mode is when it will not transfer to the 2nd gear. So could you think of if a semi truck being behind you and isn't slowing down? other system failures are not seen until after the problem comes back. I put my car into the shop on 06/11/2021. Picked it up on 06/15/2021and not even 30 minutes later had to return back to the shop. Now my car is diagnose with larger problems with no reason except the sensor was leaking and insurance would not cover it. Now even the manager was unclear as to why. The only lights that will come on are the malfunction light (it looks like a transmission) and a hazard sign within lines (electrical throttle). They will come and go however the smell will not and sounds (sounds like your engine is about to cut off without warning) will not stop. It also sounds like it is hard to start up (manager referred to it as a misfire). Good way to have a accident without warning and I felt very unsafe. Only to pay 676. 00 for the same thing occurring.

On 5/6/21, while the vehicle was running and stationary, waiting to turn left through an intersection on city streets, the ahr (active head restraint) randomly deployed in the driver headrest. My husband, who was driving at the time, thought we had been rear ended due to the loud noise it made and the force with which it hit the back of his head. The vehicle has never been in a collision and is up to date on maintenance. Researching the ahr online brought up dozens of articles about this problems occurring in Dodge Journeys (yr 2010- 2018) but it has yet to officially be listed for recall even though a class action lawsuit was filed for the issue. We called our local Dodge dealership and they informed us the headrest could not be repaired once deployed and that a new one was needed, quoting us roughly $575. 00 to do so.

The abs light came on and the skidding light came on and it said to check the awd ivehicle was in motion on a city street and wouldn't go over 10 miles per hour. Garage put testers on it said sensor was bad- we replaced it and then it happened again and the tester said it was the axle (left front). Replaced it- stopped again . Checked the wiring and the tester said it was okay but it is still stopping when I am driving it.

While driving a short distance, 36 miles, the Dodge starts to overheat. It has been in service three times for this issue and no diagnosis has been made. Upon starting the car, it shakes and after a minute it subsides within minutes of starting the oil temp jumps to 231 degrees or higher. I have had to drive with the heat on high in order to bring the temperature down and even with it on the lowest temp is still 226 after 10/15 minutes. This issue has been ongoing since July 2020.

I was driving with my children in the car and out of no where my passenger headrest deployed without a car crash. This scared me so bad. If my driver side would've deployed I could've got into a serious reck. I ask the dealer where I got my car if they could replace them or fix them they told me no it was my responsibility. I mean can you believe this?.

My 2014 Dodge Journey was parked in my garage, I tried to start up the car and it did not want to turn on. On the dash the following appeared and flashed several times before turning off: a red lightning bolt and airbag. The transmission light also flashed in yellow however it did stay on. I tried again several times. It kept giving me the message to service park assist. . I read some forums online as more people have experienced this issue with their Dodge Journey?s (ranging from 2009-2016 models) two gentlemen stated if you place the car in neutral and then start the vehicle it would crank up however my car did not. The brake pedal seems stuck and extremely hard to press down as well but that?s usually like that for me on any given day to start my car. I attempted to start up the vehicle again and the dash then stated it did not detect the key but the key was inside the car with me, again all lights turning on, flashing and then turning off. I am aware there are some previous and more recent recalls with this vehicle. Also when I open the door to get in the dash display just has a picture of the brake and push to start. Doesn't have any words with it anymore. Also when going thru the menu everything is blank except there is a 1 where there is a message for the park assist service. Worst part is I drove the car the day before with no problems. If I try to use the remote start it still doesn't work and then the tail lights flash fast and almost like they are trying to short out.

While cleaning my vehicle in my drive way I noticed a compartment under my steering wheel showing. I then took it too a Dodge dealership for a recall that I received in the mail and I also asked about the cloth like material showing under my steering wheel. The young man notified me that it was the airbag coming out from under the steering wheel as well as a sensor/electrical problem. I am a new mom to be and having a newborn in this vehicle is unexceptionable. This vehicle is only a few years old with so many recalls. Im so disappointed.

Problem started with 2014 didge Journey sxt going into limp mode. Code that appeared were throttle body sensor, changed that. It went into limp mode immediately after and code was throttle body, changed that. It went into limp mode immediately again. Same codes. Sent to shop they said it was the transmission, $220 for an overhaul of that. 2 to 3 weeks after, limp mode again. Same codes. Brought it to Dodge dealership and the diagnosis it saying I need a new pcm and wire harness. Those items were replaced. 2 to 3 weeks after that work. Car goes into limp mode again while on the hwy. Car is currently at Dodge dealership again, now they're saying it's the starter causing the problem. This issue has been since July 2019 and is still ongoing, last limp mode was Sunday December 15, 2019. I have tons of documentation of the work that has been done please advise if you should need any.

I am not sure what the problem is but it seems to be electrical (unknown). 12/07/2019 I tried to start up the vehicle once again and still does not turn on, transmission light and airbag light both stay on.

Dodge states there is a recall on the catalytic converter. The dealer will replace the part but states that it is a bolt in bolt out part and the labor to get to the part will be $1100. The labor is not covered. I also contacted corporate Dodge and I would need to pay and be reimbursed. Dodge contacted us for the recall, we did not initiate the issue.

I bought my vehicle in 2017. Before a year of owning it I got into a wreck because my cruise control wouldnt turn off and instead started accelerating more. Then I started having issues with my catalytic converter took it to the dealership and they said there was no way. Shortly after the rest of my systems started to go along with it now it's been about 6 months and I have a vehicle that can no longer move or so anything. Once my catalytic converter went out it started clogging the rest of my system. As of September 2019 my engine is now completely gone because of all the back up not being processed by my catcon.

The car started to lose power. I was drving on a busy highway then the electronic throttle light came on . No previous warning that something was wrong. The speed limit is 60 mph I was in a curve so I had slowed down to 45. I saw where there were other comolaints abou similar situation.

My cruise control quit working and the traction control light came on and it wouldn't turn off. The doors started locking and unlocking by themselves. I went to church and stopped at food city afterwards. I started the vehicle and put it in reverse and I can smell something weird and it was like the brake was stuck and it was holding back. I proceeded because I was in traffic and needed to move. Acceleration was limited but I made it home which was less than a mile. When stopped there was smoke rolling out from under the front passenger side area and there was fluids running all over the ground. This was a very dangerous situation because I had my children in the car. There is a scrubbing and pecking noise but it sounds like it's coming from the rear end. I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. Check engine light is on but it's been on. I've had it checked and shows nothing wrong and had it turned off and it continues to come on. Alternator has been replaced as well as new battery. It seems to have electrical issues with the doors locking and unlocking. So dangerous! affects steering and control of vehicle and could cause a fire and not be able to get out of the vehicle. After seeing all of the reviews and problems with these vehicles they all need to be recalled because none of them are safe because it's obvious that the dealerships don't even know how to fix them. If they attempt one issue there are even more issues that occur. The repairs are costly and this is happening way too often with too many Journeys. Then we are stuck with a lemon to pay for and no vehicle because of these costly repairs along with the dangers imposed. Please recall these dangerous and repair costly vehicles! they don't need to be on the roads. Problems started not long after purchase but they have escalated and have gotten more serious, dangerous, and costly.

Rear passenger side tire's tread just peeled up and pulled off the under skirt, pulled part of back bumper loose. Pulled off the plastic up in side the wheel carriage and also busted my gas line. I was driving on a straight road and it just happened. I didn't run over or hit anything.

While driving my car 2014 Dodge Journey I tested my cruise control at 30 miles an hour and two lane road heading in the same direction and it increase speed from 30 miles per hour on its own I'll praise to about 50 two small children in the back and wife couldn't stop car with brakes all I would do is jerk it and we can accelerate ended up clipping an mbta bus with non-injury there's no cars in front of me thought of neutral popped into mind and snacking in the neutral stopped after hitting brakes sold this car from boch new to you certified pre-owned vehicle with 60,000 miles on it may 17th recall was out for this drivetrain cruise control issue and I bought it in August both of 2018 car dealership sold me a recalled car pre-owned certified got me in a car accident with my 18 month old 3 month old + wife what to do? this was on tulane both way streets in the city when testing control hat easily a hundred to two hundred yards length between car in front of me but quickly kept up with them and had to maneuver between a boss and large SUV just made it through the hole on the car in front of us instead of rear-ending it clipping mirror in rear end of car that's when the opening with nothing in front of me panic stops and smacked into neutral.

The vehicle died after 4 years a new battery was put in and for the next 17 months the car has died 7 times and second battery was put in. There is a power drain which the dealer cannot locate. There is never an indication while driving of losing power, however, if the vehicle sits for more than 5 days it dies and must be jump started.

While operating the vehicle it shuts off while in motion. The front and rear windshield wipers turn on and off by themselves as well as the lights. It throws multiple codes then everything goes back to normal. It has happened many times while traveling at highway speeds turning into an out of control vehicle. It is a safety hazzard to all motorists.

While driving down the high way our car shut off, my husband couldn't break or steer it took about 45 seconds to turn back on. It has done this about ten times since, we have had it looked at and no codes have been off. It has also turned on windshield wipers and lights all randomly and locked and unlocked all on its own. We have three children and this is our only car. To say were terrified is a understatement we live in the city, we are once again having it looked at again in hopes someone can fix it after learning its actually happened to a lot of people.
