general problems of the 2016 Dodge Journey - part 1

Was driving car after cleaning it had a box in trunk that barely took a portion of the trunk up. While drive smelt smoke and electrical smell and my trunk was on fire inside. Pulled over and the back hatch inside got so hot from what I can only guess was electrical that the box caught fire. This caused a whole inside back hatch and melted part of my seat and damaged my storage containers.

My 2016 Dodge Journey sxt is currently having transmission problems and is stuck in 3rd gear.

While driving the car, car stalled and began displaying the lightning bolt icon on the cluster. The power steering stopped working and the brake was very stiff and hard to depress. I pulled off the road and waited a few minutes and started the car again. The idle was very rough, icon was still displayed on the cluster, and car began jerking and stalled again. I had the vehicle towed to the house and began looking into the issue. Error codes read on the car was p0365: camshaft position sensor “b” circuit, and the red lightning bolt indicating an issue with the electronic throttle body. The battery was taken out and tested bad so it was replaced. The throttle body was cleaned and tested good. When I tried to start the car after the codes were cleared, the vehicle attempted to start but wasn't able to turn over fully. The p0365 code returned. I then had a mechanic come check out the car to see if he could do anything to help. He determined that the valves in the engine were bent and the cars timing was off. With all of this being said, this issue I am complaining about is the p0365 camshaft sensor code. There was a recall for the camshaft sensors in some 2016 Dodge Journeys but my VIN did not fall in that range. When I called fca, I was told there was nothing to be done because my VIN wasn't included in the recall. A bad camshaft sensor would cause all of the issues that I am experiencing with the car. If the sensor is bad or doesn't perform as it should, it could effect the overall timing of the engine's firing sequence, causing stalling, failure to start, and damage to the engine, like in my case with the bent valves. This incident posed a severe safety risk to myself and the other drivers around me due to the loss of power steering and partial loss of braking ability. Luckily this incident did not occur on the interstate or major highway, where there are speeds in excess of 55 mph.

Both driver and passenger headrests popped open randomly while my car was in park.

Unknown and my air bag light keeps coming on even though we have gotten the coolant fixed and a new/used engine put in the car, we replaced and got a new battery and new alternator in it to and the oil has gotten changed in it.

Windows are not working.

Ignition coil and spark plug.

My engine dies while I'm driving without any warning/indicators. The engine light comes on as well. The diagnostic code reads p0335. There is a recall for my make model year but my VIN isn't listed in Dodge's database. There have been multiple incidents over the past few months.

Headrest saftey mechanism deployed due to the tension pin breaking internally while sitting in a driveway. Nothing caused deployment other than random device faliure.

The driver's headrest in my 2016 Dodge Journey has deployed and will not reset. The plastic pieces that hold the metal bar have broken. I have read about many other owners of Journeys, that are experiencing the same issue, yet there is no official recall. I have not taken it to be inspected.

P0240 code keeps coming up but the catalytic converter was changed and the cylinders at the dlrshp. This has been an ongoing issue for over 3 years.

Went to get in car and the passenger headrest had deployed overnight.

In regards to the recall s89 that has not been issued for my 2016 Dodge Journey - the crankshaft sensor has been replaced 3 times. While traveling on the highway, at highway speeds the vehicle will just die with little to no warning. Most recently 7/20/2023 - this is the 3rd time this has occurred.

While driving, the front passenger headrest just deployed and sprung forward, hitting my son in the back of the head.

Headrest came undone when moving seat to vacuum under seat. It is loose and cannot be repaired. I saw there are issues with this same headrest that were recalled on the previous model year. We do not have an active recall, but this is a safety issue as the headrest is just precariously sitting atop two metal bars.

I was on the freeway and all of a sudden these lights came on and my car slowed down to a very dangerous pace and would not accelerate. This is only 2 weeks after getting 2 new tires on it. Vehicle has codes p2118, p2072, p2112, p2110 and p2101. All codes deal with the with customer: electronic throttle control system and motor. Recommend take to a full service shop to have throttle control system looked at and inspected, but issues do not arise because of the tires being stalled. Current lights are flashing electronic symbol, traction control light and traction control off light. Vehicle in limp mode pts, tried to clear light to see if it would fix issue but as soon as vehicle turns on, all lights come back after further investigation, the Journey is going to need the throttle body replaced.

When you change to park reverse drive there's a loud noise. When you put in drive and start driving it doesn't move and sounds like it's in park or neutral. I have pulled out in traffic and it has done this four times now.

I received notice of a recall for my vehicle, when reviewing the recall list, I noticed I have issues where all icons come on, and the radio turns channel without selection. I can no longer check the vehicle status (oil level, tire pressure, etc. ). I recently completed a scheduled oil change, and the next day received notice the vehicle was due for an oil change. In the recalls listed, I am having the same issue, but my VIN is not showing. Please help, as my 2016 Journey should be part of this list.

The problem started back in April, where lights on my dash started coming on. I noticed a different feel when I drive now. I dont know if its electrical steering or what. Its the brake, abs, a tire, and a car with swerve lines. . . I dont feel safe when me and my kids are in truck. One time I was driving and it said I was going 99 but was actually going 45. Also it says there are 4 recalls on this model but when I put my VIN its says I have no unrepaired recalls. That is false! the recalls look like some of the rpoblems my vehicle is having. I dont know whats going on but for my kids safety im gone need it handled and fixed!.

My daughter bought a 2016 Dodge Journey sxt new from the dealership. The following have been replaced: head, camshaft, four times position sensor a&b & the radiator fin neck. That was $2000. That didn't fix all of the problems so it went to the dealership. They swore to my daughter & husband that it was the camshaft sensor failing, wiring harness failing, it had a break in a wire and 1 sensor had a high resistance and another sensor had no resistance. They quoted us $1750. And that it would fix the problem. Now after 3 weeks they say that wasn't the problem and that it was going to cost another couple of thousands of dollars. There was a important safety recall for 2016 Dodge Journeys on the crankshaft sensor &/or camshaft electrical connector terminal, which says it could cause a crash from the engine stalling while driving. They say it was certain Dodge Journey, Jeep compass & Jeep patriot. Vehicles manufactured may 9, 2016 to July 15, 2016 that was a manufacturer recall s89(also, NHTSA safety recall # 16v907000 crankshaft or camshaft sensor, causing engine to stall) I've seen other people with the same problem. Not to mention the dealership is now saying there's a part they need and have no way of getting. Wow so we owe them almost 2k and they really don't know what the problem is. My daughter is a single mother of 2 and can't not have a car. She still makes payments on the Journey the dealership has. How can a business cover one vehicle for the same issue another is having??? that's total crap!! either fix it under the recall for free or get her out of the vehicle without going upside down. . . Why should someone have to argue when you know that this problem exists??? it's hard enough these days & dealerships don't care they just want to blame you for the problem and continue to rack up for fixing something that should be covered, & that you cant get a part that the car needs? that one still stumps me, how can you not get a part for your own product?.

Catalytic converter is faulty and needs repaired.

Unknown: my vehicle driver side carpet gets, my heat comes on by itself constantly my check engine light comes on and off and sometimes my acceleration and braking doesn't match or lineup at times when I brake/ slow down and then get back on the gas it doesn't register or pick up on breaking and slowing down a lot of Dodge Journey's have these same issues according to online reviews.

Went to start car car started making cranking noises after car started was driving down street going about 40mph engine shut off and steering wheel locked up took it to get dionastic found out it was. A crankshaft sensor there is a recall on this part but not under the month my car wasanafactured.

The passenger side headrest came apart while driving. It was pretty forceful the plastic portion seperated from the rest of head rest.

I have had the crankshaft position sensor replaced two times now. This is a dangerous issue as the car becomes disabled while driving.

My car started whining bad and loss power it was stuck in one gear. Now I'm having to get a new trainsmission I have 113,000miles on it and only 4 yrs old befor this happened I have to replace 2 rocker arms at 2 different times on 2 different cams the rocker arms are a terrible designed in this car and go bad easily and cost alot of time and money to get them replaced.

I went to go to town, opened the driver's door, started working the lever to raise the seat, next thing I knew there was a loud bang and the headrest exploded. There was a small piece of black plastic that landed in the seat. The vehicle was sitting in my driveway, the ignition was still off.

My airbag light keeps coming on and going off. My abs light stays off after starting and while driving. Now my brake light is on. The brake pops on after I began to drive and stays on.

Car vibrate when on the freeway, I was told my motor mounts which were replace 2018.

When you try to start car it is not connecting.

My car started shaking stopped abruptly the middle of the road and I was almost rear ended. I found out that the problem was a �crank sensor� I have since had it repaired but wanted to report how dangerous this is. I did some research and found that the same make a year had been recalled due to this issue and I was wondering why my VIN # was not. Can you help me so that this issue won't happen again and a reimbursement had well,.

My tension pulley bolts broke off half the bolts are still left inside. I've never had this car worked on never had to for no more than just a oil change for no reason the tension pulley just dropped off with the belt when I started the car at my job.

Takata recall turning left onto a main road the car slowed down and stopped in the middle of traffic. Would not start again, could not be jumped. Towed to Dodge & they said its crankshaft sensor and they are charging way too much when I find on here it was recalled December 2016; we must have not had the vehicle yet.

Shortly after purchasing my vehicle, I started having problems with it. The traction control light, abs light and service awd light came on. The car wouldn't let me accelerate upon the initial acceleration. I would have to either slam on the brakes hard or push the acceleration all the way to the floor. I took it back to where I got it from and they said it was the right front passenger abs sensor that went bad. They fixed it and it was fine. Here we are 3 months later and the issue is happening again.
