The contact stated that while making a right turn at 25 mph, the vehicle jerked and made a popping noise, and the driver's front wheel separated from the vehicle. The failure caused the contact to lose control of the steering wheel and to crash into a vehicle in the left lane, damaging the passenger side front bumper. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who inspected the vehicle and located the failure as a broken drivers side front axle which caused the wheel to separate.
