1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

I am experiencing an engine stall after filling the fuel tank. I have stalled after just leaving the gas station on main roads and even the highway when traffic is at highway speeds of 65+. There have been no accidents to report to law enforcement so I dont have record of that. I called the local dealer before to ask about the recall but they only said it was not on the list and I did not receive a call back. I would like to take my vehicle in for inspection. The issue has been happening for at least a few years (I dont have an exact time frame) but only this last year did the engine light come on. I had the code checked while the light was on and it was not for the aforementioned issue, so I dont think my vehicle is registering the stalling.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2018

After filling up gas tank car will stall out. Big safety concern, car stalled while making a turn on city street, lose power steering very dangerous. Happens every time I fill up gas tank.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2018

When filling gas tank to a full condition the engine will die suddenly without warning. The car/engine will stall unexpectedly after leaving gas station often in a perilous position. Does not happen unless car is over 3/4 full of fuel. If the car is filled up it can die anytime at any moment.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2018

After filling up with gas, the engine will stall and shut off at an idle. This happens immediately after filling up the gas tank. Once I make it home after it stalls 2 to 3 time and it sits over night it is fine the next day. The engine stalls when sitting at a red light at idle speeds.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2017

After filling tank at gas station, engine completely stopped while turning out of station. Had to shift to neutral and restart, narrowly avoiding an accident. I did not "top off" tank, as it was about 3/4 full when pulling away. This is a recurring problem and always manifests itself after refuling, or soon after. The problem is a faulty vent valve that cannot be replaced separate from entire tank. Numerous others have this problem yet the manufacturer refuses to issue a recall.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2016

After I fill up the fuel tank with gas, the vehicle stops running. This usually happens 1-3 times after filling up. It will die at low speeds or idle at a stop light and has even died while driving down the road (once in the middle of a roundabout) this seems to. Be a very common problem for these vehicles with the 5. 7 liter v-8 (such as mine). I recently purchased this vehicle used after experiencing this issue, did a little digging and found out this a very common problem. This is obviously a hazard and I am wondering if there is a recall in place for this issue.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2016

I have had an ongoing problem with my 2005 Dodge Magnum rt 5. 7l 58,000 mi on it. After filling up the gas tank , the vehicle will shut down during driving many times before finally going again. All power including the power steering goes. I didn't relate the problem at first with fueling , this has been happening for a few years. I took it to the Dodge dealer a few years ago , and had the pcm , and other parts replaced , stalled on the way home. Nothing has worked so far. This seems to be an ongoing problem with these vehicles . I don't even trust it to drive on the highway , and I don't like even putting my grandchildren in the car , because you never know, it could stall anywhere, I planned on keeping this car for a long time I still have very low miles on it. , and now I fear it. Dodge needs to do something about this. I haven't seen any recalls on this , but I have seen some people have had the fuel tank replaced stating it is the rollover valve. Just because these cars are older doesn't mean we have to give them up . Dodge please help! we shouldn't have to pay for a problem in 85+% of the cars.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

When filling up my vehicle the car will shut off while driving, it will shudder and then die all the lights on the instrument panel will go on I will lose control of the vehicle. It only does it when I fill up the gas tank and if I am stopped at a red light or going under 45mph after filling up the tank. If im going 60+ miles it will sputter act like it is going to die but it doesn't.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2016

Engine stalls after filling fuel tank. Called service dept. At nearest Dodge dealer on 1/26/16. Was told this is a known problem which requires replacement of the fuel tank. Service advisor offered to put me on the list, which I agreed to, and then stated there are 10 people on the list, then said they haven't done one of those for about a year. Sounds like the tank vendor is not supplying the dealer with enough tanks, or delaying the shipment of replacement tanks. The stalling problem is the subject of many NHTSA complaints and matter was "resolved" by extending warranty on the tank to lifetime warranty, but this doesn't help if the vehicle owner has to wait for years for the dealer to get a replacement tank.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2016

After filling fuel tank and driving away from station car completely loses power and stalls out. I refuel and top off in a normal fashion, by stopping pump at first cut off. This happens about 1 in 10 times I refuel. No check engine lights and I have replaced, purge valve, charcoal canister, and vaccum leak valve. No help. When it quits, I have to restart, which it does, but even when the engine does not stop completely, it always shudders for a few seconds after filling. There as a recall on these vehicles, but only for 5. 7 liter engines. The problem is the rollover valve. Chrysler replaced the tanks on the 5. 7 lx cars, but will not recognize the problem on the 3. 5 and 2. 7 liter cars. This is a patterrn failure and a safety item.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2015

Engine stalls and cuts out while driving. I have owned this car since new and it has had this issue since the warranty expired. Basically when you fill the car up it will stall until you get the gas level down to a certain point. For years I have been filling the car to 3/4 tank to avoid the issue. This has now happened again on the way back from florida with my son driving. He filling the car up to the point where the pump clicks off. I think driving a car on the freeway at 70 miles an hour with this stalling is a big issue.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

After filling tank and driving away engine idle speed was very rough and decreased about 500 rpm while stopped at a light. Could clearly feel engine shudder. Gas cap was tight and there are no other issues such as check engine lights or drivability. This the fourth time this has occurred and it is always after a fill up. A hessitation while trying to accelerate could cause an accident. I have checked other owners and I am confident the problem is related to a defect in the roll over valve in the tank. Dodge recently issued a recall on the roll over valves (must replace entire tank) for the 5. 7 liter lx cars but not the 3. 5 or 2. 7 models.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

Today after filling my car a mile from gas station it stalled at 45mph. It then stalled at every stop I made . Car just dyes loosing power steering and made it interesting to watch motorists behind me scramble to avoid me. Had car towed at my expence to Dodge dealer. They returned a call stating Dodge has fuel tank issues (its all over the internet. With other customers). They said they would call me in approx. 2 months for repalacement gas tank . Back orders. Get to pick up my car tomarrow ,not looking forward to my first drive on the street.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

After filling tank of gas; engine quits leaving gas station and was almost rear-ended. This has happened the last 5 times we have filled with gas. Seems to run fine after 2-3 miles. Thank you.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2014

After filling the fuel tank, several times the engine sputtered and / or died, at low speed and at a stop.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

Engine stalls just after filling the gas tank when stopping at a traffic lights. This was handled under NHTSA action number pe13016 in the past. I understand this was closed on February 10, 2014, but has been recently reopened.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

After filling gas tank, car shut off leaving station onto busy street. I was almost rear ended. Car did re-crank within a minute or two. This is a safety issue, especially in heavy traffic. .

18 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2014

Soon after fulling the gas tank of my car it started to stall at very slow speeds. The car cut off completely and the oil light came on. The car started up as soon as I tried to turn it on again. After doing that stalling multiple times, I took it to the dealer and they replaced the egr value. After filling the gas tank again the car began to stall again. When I took it to the dealer a second time they said they would need to replace the gas tank. While the 2006 Dodge cars with the same features have been given a lifetime warranty on the gas tank, I was told there is no warranty on my car for this issue on my 2005 Dodge Magnum.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2013

After filling my gas tank without topping off, my car stalls within the first 300 feet of the gas station and is then hard to start. Once it's restarted, for the next 40-60 miles of driving, my car hesitates and will often stall at any low speeds or stops unless I drop it into neutral and rev it up. 60-100 miles after a full tank, the car will buck when coming out of a turn and then stall if I let off the gas.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

Vehicle stalled shortly after filling fuel tank in December, 2013. Restarted immediately, but stalled again, and continued stalling for the next mile or so. Now, every time I get gasoline, I must use caution for the first few miles, as the car will stall at random times. I do not "top off" the tank when filling.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

After filling the fuel tank to full and driving away from the station it will stall. Sometime right away from leaving the pump or shortly thereafter. Usually about the time it takes to get to the intersection near the gas station. If I am careful to not fill it past 3/4 full its ok. Although I have had issues with it restarting at 1/2 tank now.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

After filling up my 2005 Dodge Magnum the car stalls multiple times as I drive home. The stalls seem to happen at lower speeds such as turning in an intersection or when coming to stop at a light. The car is hard to start and leaves me stalled in traffic until it starts again. At higher speeds the car jerks and bucks as the engine dies and restarts. While on the freeway it is hard to maintain speed when this is happening. Research indicates it is a common problem that will require replacing the whole fuel tank. Please issue a recall for this dangerous issue. To get a better picture of how big this problem, ask Dodge to provide sales numbers for replacement gas tanks sold.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

2005 Dodge Magnum rt (5. 7l v8) stalls immediately after filling up with gas. As soon as I begin to drive the car stutters then stalls. This will happen 2-3 times before running normal. Only resolution so far is to not fill the car past 3/4 full, which is a definite inconvenience. Based on research, there is a faulty sensor in the fuel tank that needs to be replaced.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Upon filling up or topping off the tank, there is a very strong fuel odor even though there is no leakage or visible signs around the gas cap. This odor remains until the car has been run approx. 100 miles, then gos away. The odor is so strong tht I am concerned about a possible fire as has been reported by several other Magnum owners on online forums.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2012

After filling the car up with fuel, the car stalled multiple times in traffic. Slowly made my way to the dealership which was less than 1 mile away. The car stalled at the dealership multiple times. I was told it is characteristic of model, and just don't fill up tank anymore. Filled up tank 9/10s recently and car stalled multiple times on highway, very dangerous. Took into dealership again, they filled up the tank and it stalled on repairman. I was told I need to replace gas tank and fuel lines at a cost of over $2,000. 00.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

Vehicle stalls after getting fuel and only when filling up the tank to full, we don't top off the tank after the fuel shuts off. We now have to guess when to stop filling the tank with how many gallons to add so it is 1 gallon or so below full. The car will stall after filling up and have to re-start if going at slower speed (5-15 mph) very dangerous when trying to leave a gas station or stop light. If at highway speeds then the car will still try to stall and jerks and slows down. Took it to a mechanic and they found an overflow valve sticks open and let's raw fuel down a tube and basically fluids the engine. The only fix is to replace the whole gas tank $3,000 dollars after labor.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2012

The car, after filling with gas, suddenly stalled while driving down a main road. I had to stop in the middle of the road, put the car in neutral, restart it, put the car in drive, wait 2 seconds or so for the transmission to re-engage, and then I could move again. A truck slammed into the back of the car after it came to it's jerky stop and the oncoming truck didn't realize a person would be stopped in front of him where there was no light or stop sign. I found out later, from a car forum, that the 5. 7 liter Dodges have a rash of issues where the check valve that is part of the fuel tank fails and causes the emission system to get wet and the computer gets confused signals causing the car to stall (shortly after filling the tank). I found out that it would cost at least $1000 to change the entire gas tank as the only fix to the problem. I can't believe there isn't a recall for this dangerous problem. Luckily the damage in the crash wasn't severe although I suffered from whiplash as a result.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

I too have experienced this stalling after filling the fuel tank. Takes several starting attempts before the engine will get back to running smoothly and stay running. It is completely repeatable as it happens each and every time the tank is filled. Some have said that the answer is to fill only until the fueling pump clicks off of automatic. Well, not with mine! anywhere near a full tank will cause the stalling problem any help would be greatly appreciated - no safety issues yet with this issue but would not like any either!.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2011

After filling up the tank with regular 87 octane and traveling less than a mile the vehicle stalled. I would restart the vehicle and it would stall again several times until about 10-15 miles it would subside. I realized after several fill ups there must be a correlation so I took my 2005 v8 Magnum into the dealership. The dealership stated that it would cost between 1,500 to 2 grand to evaluate and fix the problem which they thought had to do with the fuel tank. Since I could not afford the repair cost the only remedy was to stop short of filling up the tank. No stalls occurred if I would fill up the tank 3/4. This went on for several years until one day I was distracted and filled the tank up 100%. It did not stall at low speeds but when I got on the highway stalled at 55 leaving me in an unsafe situation (not having control of the steering wheel). Fortunately I was strong enough to manipulate the steering wheel to the side of the highway. I was fearful to begin again at high speeds so I placed my flashers on and traveled several miles at 35 mph with several stalls to follow. Now it is may of 2014 and the dealership has no warranty or recall noticed on this vehicle.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2011

Bought a used 2005 Dodge Magnum 5. 7l rt in 2011. I've had multiple stalling issues with the vehicle. Likes to stall right after filling up the gas tank. Also stalls with gas tank at nearly empty. Can sometimes stall when making right/left turns or u-turns at intersections. I've learned to only fill up to half a tank, but issues still occur. The vehicle always stalls when going up a ramp in a multiple story parking garage. When going up the ramp, just as the car begins to get level with the floor at the top of the ramp, the vehicle stalls just about every time. Seems like a gas tank fuel problem. I understand that a safety feature built into the vehicle turns the engine off in the event of fuel detection in an area of the gas tank where no gas should be. Most likely in case of an accident leading to roll over of the vehicle. This appears to be malfunctioning. Possible flaw in the design. Chrysler/Dodge needs to address this immediately before someone gets killed because their vehicle stalled while making a simple u-turn or while driving high speeds on a highway. Public safety should supersede any cost concerns the company may have to pay to fix this problem.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2011

After filling up the fuel tank on the 2005 Dodge Magnum awd (5. 7l), the vehicle began to stall at idle. Throttle had to be feathered at stop lights to prevent stall. After fuel level decreased to 7/8th of a tank, the stalling stopped and the car behaved normally. This problem repeated four more times in 2012, then began to happen at every full fuel fill up in 2013. Starting in 2014, careful metering of the fuel into the tank showed that if the total fuel level was kept below 145 pints, the stalling behaviour would not happen.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

1. After filling up gas tank, car stalls out coming to a stop or slowing down. 2. Engine stalls slowing down even while going around turns. Happens every time after fill up. Very dangerous, lost power steering while going around turn and almost hit a curve, car behind almost hit me. 3. Only known fix is to replace fuel tank because rollover valve is apart of the tank.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2008

From approximately August 2008 through August 2013, vehicle would stall at low speeds after filling fuel tank. Replaced fuel tank in August 2013, which corrected the issue. In response to NHTSA action number pe13016, Chrysler extended the fuel tank warranty on some 2005 and 2006 Dodge Magnum vehicles. My vehicle, which was manufactured during this time period and seemingly had the same issue as the affected vehicles, is not covered under Chrysler's warranty extension. Chrysler seems to have made a decision that will allow unsafe vehicles not covered under their warranty to continue to operate on the road.
