general problems of the 1996 Dodge Neon

Six problems related to power train have been reported for the 1996 Dodge Neon. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/20/1998

While driving at normal highway speeds speedometer starts acting erratically. The needle wave back and forth between 0 and the present speed. After about 20 seconds the needle goes to zero and remains there. In addition to having no idea what your speed is the odometer is disabled . On the most recent failure turning the car off ,while in a resturant for 45 minutes seemed to clear up the problem. Upon resuming our trip we had the speedometer and odometer working.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/13/1998

Driver was distracted by failed speedometer needle as it was swingling wildly. Distraction caused accident.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/18/1998

Odometer failure occurred twice, the last time was in Feb of 99.

4 Power Train problem

Speedometer and odometer work intermittently. While driving along all of a sudden needle will drop to zero and odmeter will stop moving. Driver is not able to tell driving speed, and correct mileage of vehicle. It could be anywhere from a few minutes until a few days before they start working again. This has been an ongoing problem for the last month. Problem has not been reported to dealership.

5 Power Train problem

At 62,000 miles speedometer has malfunctioned and did not register speed levels, cause unknown. Please give any further details.

6 Power Train problem

Speedometer is working intermittently , consumer cannot determine correct speed ,possibly due to a loose connection. Cause is unknown. Please provide further information.
