general problems of the 2007 Dodge Nitro - part 1

The day after I bought this vehicle it had to go directly back because of the catalytic converter. I was told they replaced it but did not show me the proof nor did they give me a valid warranty card. There is something wrong with the electrical system everything flickers and it just sounds really bad. The driver side passenger side window broke because it's made of plastic. The front both passenger and driver side door handles broke off. I had to jerry rig it. And the reason I think this would be dangerous is if we were to need to get out of the car we would not be able to in case of an emergency. I've looked under the items that were recalled on this vehicle. But I get a notification that says I'm not allowed to have it fixed. Unless it's out of pocket. I purchased this car in August 2015 or 2016. The dates on the calendar below are inaccurate because the catalytic converter was done the very next day and the driver side indoor handle has been broken off for quite a while. But recently in the last week or so the other one snapped off.

Ever since I bought this vehicle, I have been having issues with it registering the key, which keeps causing an automatic security alert system to shut down my vehicle the moment I start it. I've already replaced the battery to my car. I've already had locksmiths examined the issue and nobody can seem to find the problem. The issue with the car is definitely a security issue. The car shuts down automatically and goes into theft mode which prevents me from driving my vehicle. That could be a result to a software malfunction or something but it doesn't register the keys which originally sets off the security warning. Whenever the car does register the key it drives and operates just fine. It's the computer that prevents me from driving it or whatever automatic system that is related to theft mode.

I had my vehicle a week before it start misfiring it’s been months I had it worked on numerous times and still has not been fixed. When I try to crank it I have to keep my foot on the gas and if I let go it will cut back off I had so many parts replaced and the issue remain the same.

Throttle body light came on car died. Thought it was throttle body replaced it didn’t start. It has crank but no start. Have had 11 people look at it now have replaced spark plugs, coils, battery terminals, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, fuel pump but the car still will not start. I was told the tipm could cause this issue I need to know what else I can do. I have no vehicle now can’t work due to this and I am struggling to get by. No codes show up, no blinking red light for the key, checked the fuses, checked fuel pressure. Been down a month now.

The tipm is starting to fail. The power locks do not work, the car has problems starting has a very slow start, the horn will randomly go off and sometimes it does not want to start at all. Every article I’ve read, and every dealership I’ve talked with has said to replace the entire tipm module. There are many other cases like this and it all comes down to the module. So with this said I am asking for either reassurance that it is that. Or receive help to be able to fix it.

While filling gas leaks out filler nozzle.

1. Engine light on reads gas cap . We replaced gas cap numbers times and engine light doesn’t go away. 2. Wipers not working . Water cleaning spray for windows not working front or back windows. 3. I have replaced my windows panel numerous times. The window panels keep braking and my windows stay down. Extremely annoying.

My engine stalled. But only when the transmission was at park. It happened twice in 5 years and when it was raining. Also my engine struggles a bit to turn on in the morning but only in the summer time. If it’s winter car starts up with ease. But I do notice when my engine is fully warm and I shut off my car to go to a store, when I go back and turn on my car it will just crank. I have to shut it off and then turn it back on. This happens quite often. And this only happens in the winter in a fully warmed engine. Not the summer. This been happening about three years now. I’ve got it inspected but nothing is found wrong.

Last November, you notified me of a recall on my 2007 Dodge Nitro for the driver air bag emblem. I called bill luke Dodge in phoenix for an appointment and they said the part is on back order until December, and that I would be contacted. I have never been contacted . . . And now you sent me a 2nd notice. I called bill luke Dodge again and was informed that it is on back order now until June. Instead of you sending me past-due notices, why don't you call the dealer to get the part and perform the service. November to June will be seven months. That is a long time for a safety delay! and I am caught in the middle between you and the dealer.

Brakes not braking uphill dash lights not lighting when have issues like low fluids or oil drive train light comes on power steering makes kind bump noises when turning transmission studders in reverse or switching gears.

The car horn honks non-stop for hours sometimes. . . Then nothing for a week or two. Almost had an accident when this horn went off. I read read that many 2007 Dodge Nitro's have this problem!! they say it could be the horn switch or tipm module (totally integrated power module). Started months ago but stopped, as of 11/01/19 it is happening often and I have to disconnect the battery. I heard it could start fire!!.

I am filing this complaint about the door handles on my Nitro 3 out of 4 of them are broken and cannot be opened from the inside. They broke by simply trying to open the door, it made a popping noise and no longer worked a week later another door and a few days later a third door. I took my vehicle to dealership and they quoted me almost $200 for each door and confirmed that it is broken door handle. After deciding to for go repairs I did some research on the internet and discovered that many many more people are having this same issue. I feel this is a serious safety issue because it's only a matter of time before a child might be playing hide and seek climbs into the vehicle and can't get out. The only way to open the door is to roll down the window which are electric and reach hand out and open from the outside. So that is a second safety issue if car battery goes out and you can't open window you are basically locked in your car. I contacted Dodge and no recall has been put in for this issue. I urge you to please look into this and you will find multiple complaints and it is a manufacturing defect I believe they are responsible for. Thank you for your time.

While driving to work on Monday morning at 60mph the truck shut down lost all power and can't be restarted almost crashed . . Have replaced all the major suspect to find out along with 1000s of others the anti theif device or the wcm is the problem and we as consumers should not have to cover the cost or head aches of getting this resolved. There are more than enough complaints to issue a recall so people can get there trucks bck on the road. .

I have owned the car since 2012 and have no major issues until now. My rear b. C. Ack passengers window malfunctioned out of nowhere and I treat my truck with the most car. I maintain it, service it, garage kept, and it only has 90000 miles as of last year when I was forced to drive it.

When it rain truck shuts off no powere engine has to replace fuse to statr agian.

On 3/21/18 I was driving through a major intersection when the battery dash light came on in my truck. I found this to be odd since I had just had a brand-new battery installed on in my truck on 1/8/18, then the following events occurred in rapid succession: all of the dash warning lights came on, the a/c which was on at the time and blowing very cold air, began blowing hot air, I attempted to roll down the electric powered windows and they would not work; the windshield wipers came on without prompting. I quickly decided to turn around and go back home since I was a short distance away. I decided to take a route through a residential neighborhood since I was unsure what would happen next and thought it would be best not to be on a major roadway if anything further occurred. I made a left into the residential neighborhood and noticed my truck was moving very sluggish and making a weird noise. I was approaching a stop sign up ahead; however, before I could apply the brakes my truck just cut off. I quickly put the gear in park and attempted to turn on my hazard light for oncoming traffic to go around me but I realized at this point my truck had absolutely no power. A gentleman on a bicycle stopped to assist me and we decided it would be best if he pushed my truck around the corner I was stalled at, to keep from obstructing oncoming traffic. He instructed me to put the truck in neutral but I was unable to do so, I could not turn the car on nor could I move it out of park gear. The street I was stopped on is a major road for entering and exiting the neighborhood that I was attempting to pass through to get home. Electrical problem when pressing unlock button my doors lock instead. My plug outlet no longer works. When rolling down driver window down. Passenger window will roll down and up also. My gas cap light has stayed and and gas cap has been replaced. Shift solenoid.

My truck is have trouble with timps system and it's a 2007 and I seen it was a recall.

Failure of drive train and transmission at 94,000 miles. Authorized Dodge dealer shop is saying $13,000 to fix.

Vehicle stallls while driving it happens at all speeds and all types of roads highway 70 mph to neighborhood at 25 mph. The emergency brake engages, all interior light start flashing on, except all the lights for the heater controls go out and we lose power to cigarette lighter and power steering is lost. If it doesn't lose power completely the transmission won't shift and the car needs to be shut of and restarted. Other days vehicle won't start at all, or will start and immediately shut off.

When I got my ride the horn was unhooked. So I reconnected it and now the horn honks itself and my auto up window switch isn't working.

While driving on the highway at speeds of 70mph my vehicle threw itself into 2nd gear and has been stuck in this position for over the last couple days. I did not touch anything to throw it into this gear. I drive a standard. When I took it into the shop. I was informed that it was locked in 2nd gear due to the tipm. I am having to order the part and get it replaced. I was driving with my 2 year old son in my vehicle I thank god that nothing worse happened.

Takata recall car is having issue with horn honking at random times, windshield wipers going off at random times, windows rolling down without reason, doors locking and unlocking, and headlights turning off while driving. Poses a serious threat while driving especially at night.

I took my 2007 Dodge Nitro to have a diagnostic test conducted and it was noted that the cause of my automatic door locks would not operate because of something related to thetimp module.

Electronic window switch keeps going out, and the tipm light keeps comiing on. When I driving down the street the tipm light stays on didn't know what that was, I thouhgt it meant my tires, so I purchased new tires, still comes on and now my window want roll up because of this module.

My truck honks randomly been dealing wih it for 1-2 years. . It honks when its off or when im driving its very scary as a female having to drive it like this. I had tipm replaced and still having issued I removed the fuse for horn but afte a year my battery started to die and I hear a sound coming from fuse box(tipm) not sure whats the problem but I have read many people have been having issues. . . Battery dies overnight when car is idle. It starts with a jump start and is fine during the day. I found the problem is that the dash board lights are coming on at night draining the battery. I also hear ticking & weird noises from the fuel box under the hood. A/c does not work, horn does not work & I am washer fluid does not come out when trying to clean windows! hazard lights flash & the alarm goes off for no apparent reason. Took it to a dealer who said he received about 15 different codes when running diagnostics & that the dealer needs to flash the pcm.

The passenger door handle breaks off. I have replace this door handle 3 time out of my own pocket. I feel as if this now has become a recall due to it continuing to break.

Interior door handle drivers side broke, pressure used to open door not much, only what is needed to trip the latch and open. Had to lower window and use outside door handle to get out, removed panel from front and back doors, moved the rear interior door handle to the front for a quick temporary fix, waiting for that to break also. The complaint is a safety issue, that does not seem to be addressed or fixed by Dodge. . . But you can buy a $40+ handle from them, the same kind that has the chance to break again. You can see this by just looking on Dodges forums for this exact complaint - with no resolve.

I went to run errands stopped at the post office drop off a package at the boxes in the lot. Didn't pull close enough so I opened the door to reach drop box. Went next to buy groceries and when to open the driver door the handle no longer worked. . So I had to turn my car back on, roll my window down, open the door, roll my window back up. . . You get the rest. This is a huge concern for me because I have children and lord knows something serious happens and I can't get out of my car because my handle breaks!!! if I'm heaven forbid hit on the right side and or there's a fire. I can't get out. Do something about this. Dodge has had nothing but issues with the Nitro since it was made. Hence the reason Dodge stopped production on the Nitro. All why is a larger sized body sub put on a Jeep liberty frame? had I known this would never have purchased the Nitro.

Engine shut off while driving 35 mph. Was able to restart it. Second incident horn and wipers go off and can not be shut off. Has happened while driving and while car is sitting.

I was just getting back from lunch and was about to exit my vehicle when the handle broke. So I had to turn my car back on, roll my window down, open the door, roll my window back up. . . Confused with different information regarding replacement / repair of the driveshaft or boot. Which of the following is correct. . . Replace the whole driveshaft replace just the boot one mechanic says the shaft that needs to be replaced is from the transfer case to the front differential is this a after market part or dealership part? concerned - recall driveshaft issues with 4x2 2007 Nitro - why would 4x4 and 4x2 have driveshaft issues but recall on the 4x2 only.

I was getting out of my 2007 Dodge Nitro and the handle just broke. I looked up online and there seems to be a ton of people having the same problem. Why is there not a recall yet?!?.
