Since March 2014. The horn has gone off by itself (3), the truck has died while driving at a speed of 30 mph (1), truck has failed to start (1).
The plastic inside door handles continue to break. It is not wear and tear as it has happened on doors that never get used. The handle makes it impossible for the passengers to exit the vehicle through their door. The driver handle has also broke making it unsafe. If there were ever a need to exit the vehicle for an emergency and the window could not be rolled down the driver and passenger would be unable to exit. The windows have to be rolled down and the person has to open the door from the outside only. The part gets replaced and fixed and breaks again. The handles are made of plastic that wear out with heat very easily. I feel the manufacturer should replace these handles with a more sturdy material. It is a very unsafe piece that continues to break.
Interior door handle has broken 3 times already this has to be a recall on Dodge they are horrible I am sick of having to buy door handles!!!.
To whom it may concern: driver side interior door handle snapped / broke clean off when I tried to exit the vehicle one afternoon on may 14, 2014. Vehicle has approx. 70k miles at the time of incident. Didn't realize it was a plastic handle until it broke. Appears to be cheap plastic. Door handle was not exposed to abuse. Interior door handle is operated with appropriate exiting force upon every exit and 99% of the time I'm the only one using that door handle. Please do something about this problem as it appears I'm not the only one with the same problem. Thanks in advance.
I am original owner of this vehicle. It is garaged , well maintained, and serviced by dealership. There is no history of abuse, or auto accidents associated with this vehicle. The interior drivers door handle snapped off in my hands yesterday, while attempting to exit the parked vehicle. This is a considerable safety concern. Only exit is through an electric window, due to large console between seats. I have contacted doge, and due to mileage (79k) and age (2007), they offer no assistance in fixing, so I will have to pay at dealership. I have seen enough complaints in various forums of this same issue, to warrant contacting you. This is not cosmetic, but of vital concern to driver safety. Please consider further action with a view to recall , so that manufacturer will proceed rectify this dangerous flaw. Thank you for your consideration.
While driving no matter what the speed the car kicks back. It could be when it's moving to the next gear or just on a gear it kicks back hard. Took the car to mechanic no issues with transmission every one is stumped as to what it is. Nothing comes up on diagnostic. The other issue that started with the above problem is that the car turns off on it's own. It could be while you are idle or backing up, parking or even in the process of stopping at a red light. I almost hit the car in front because the breaks locked up after the car just stalled while I was stopping the vehicle. Again no one knows why this is happening. Very dangerous. I've avoided several accidents. I live in a place that has lots of hills so if this car turns off while breaking/slowing down going downhill I can hit the car in front. Breaks lock up because car is turned off so I have no way to stop car but emergency break and hope that it works quick enough.
Pulled on driver's side door handle and it snapped off. Have to roll down window and open from the outside to get out of the vehicle. Not a very safe option. I have read many others are having this same problem, perhaps a recall should be put out. It is a pricey fix at the dealer. My car is in excellant condition and I take good care of it. Not happy about spending upwards of $250. 00 to have a plastic door handle fixed. I purchased this vehicle new in 2007.
Both drivers and passenger inside door handles broke from normal wear and tear. The drivers side inside door handle broke a few months ago and I attempted to glue back together with no such luck. The passenger inside door handle broke just today. Now I have to roll down the window to open the door, only a matter of time before power window motor burns out from continual use, at which I had to replace motor in pass. Door and switches in drivers door at my own expense a couple of years ago.
By the winter being so cold tried to open passenger front door & driver back door handles snapped in half.
The inside drivers door handle broke at the hindge and I can not get out usign the handle. This is the lame! and obviously happens to a lot of Nitro owners.
Drivers side door handle inside broke. The bottom plastic part of the hinge broke. Can not open now from inside! ridiculous!.
The inside door handle on the driver's side broke and I was unable to get out of the car.
I went to open the door to get out of the car to go to work. Where the handle connects snapped in half. Making it impossible to get out.
Interior door handles are breaking on Dodge Nitro's and is a very common issue. Handles have been redesigned to prevent this problem but there has yet to be a recall. . Read more...
After parking, I tried to open the door and the handle snapped. I was unable to open the door and had to crawl across the front seat to get out. This seems like a huge safety issue, and from what I can tell, a lot of other Nitro owners have had the same problem.
When I came back from picking up lunch today, I parked my car and was unable to get out. The handle on my driver side door simply stopped working. After looking up some information online, I found that this car has a history of the door handles breaking. It's bad enough that if I were in an accident today I would have to climb out of another door (and of course if I was injured this could be very difficult), but if, by some coincidence, another door handle broke, I could potentially end up trapped in my car.
Had made and apt to take truck in for recall for underbody transmission tunnel shield at 1 pm on sat . On the way to work . No warning signs truck no light indicator on truck started to make loud noise while my husband was driving . We pulled up to the stop light and turned the truck off and turned it back on it started to make a loud noise again so he pulled to the side of the road into a parking lot and then it just stop would not go into reverse or turn back on and the transmission light came own . We had it towed to the dealership . Ask them to do the repair on the recall still not done 3 days later so I cannot even tow vehicle to my house . To figure out where to go from there have contacted the recall hotline they said they can not do anything . Filed a complaint to them they said they would look in to it and get back to me . The dealership said for 700 dollars they can break the transmission down to see if the two are connected who has money to was this is crazy and I see you have other complaints about stating vehicles and transmissions this is dangerous thankfully it was a sat and no traffic when this happened we could have been killed and my son was in the car in the back seat and it would have been a rear end accident which is were most children ride in the back for safety that is a joke with the Nitro I hope you take this as serious as I do a s a concerned parent it is alarming to know that vehicles with these kinds of issues are still being sold and nobody wants to fix the problems it is more about money than accidents and death . This is probably why people have stop supporting Dodge and Chrysler because they are not about safety and ownership of there brand and responsibility for there defects we also had a door handle on driver side broken this seems to be common as well . I will also make a formal complaint to Chrysler.
I went to exit my vehicle and the door handle snapped. I was not using excessive force, or any extra pressure on the handle.
I went to exit my vehicle and the driver side front door handle snapped right off. I had to crawl across to the passenger side, which at my age of 51, was not exactly an easy task since there is a consol in between the two seats. Now I'm finding out that it is going to cost almost $300 to have it repaired and will have to wait for the part. For how much this vehicle cost, plastic should not have been used on something used as often as a door handle.
I received a recall notice from Chrysler for replacement of an "underbody transmission shield". I brought my vehicle (Dodge Nitro) to allen samuels Dodge in houston. After my vehicle was inspected, the service advisor (robert) informed me that they would order the part for my vehicle but it would take 2 and 1/2 months before the part would arrive at their dealership. This is unacceptable and I believe the advisor was attempting to discourage me from having the repair done (since this is a repair which they will not receive payment/commission).
Upon trying to exit my parked vehicle, the door handle just broke right off when I pulled on it to open the door. I feel that this is a major safety issue because if the windows fail or if there was some type of a crash in which quick exit was important, I would be trapped in my vehicle. From what I have researched online in trying to figure out how to replace the handle, this is an extremely common problem with the Nitros. I do not understand how this has not previously been recalled due to safety. Being trapped in a vehicle due to handle failure is a big problem.

I am living in puerto rico and I have a 2007 Dodge Nitro, which has a recall, under body transmission tunnel shield 05/24/2013 incomplete I went to cabrera motors where I purchased the car so I can get the recall fixed. I went on July 11, 2013, and was told the part would be in in 2 weeks. Here we are August 20, 2013 and still no part. I've called many many times and every time I call I'm told the part is not in. I need my vehicle to move and I have my family in it. If a car is recalled it is due to a safety concern. Please help.
The interior door handle for the back passenger and the driver side door broke internally and can not open from the inside. If there is a accident, my family would not be able to escape without help from the outside.
Once fuel tank reaches it's capacity, gas spits back out overflowing the tank. Issue has been going on for awhile.
Driving north on interstate I-75 in heavy traffic due to an accident, my horn started sounding, my windshield wipers activated and windshield washer fluid started flooding the windshield. I pulled over and shut the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle normally. Approximately, two months later, I attempted to unlock my car remotely using my key and the horn started blaring, the windshield wipers activated and the windshield washer fluid sprayed continuously. I called Dodge Chrysler corporation to see if they could offer assistance. They told me which fuses to pull. I had to disconnect the battery to stop the horn, then pulled the fuses and reconnected the battery. I was able to replace the fuses and drive home. Dodge Chrysler told me to contact my dealer if it did it again. On September 14, 2013. I attempted to unlock my car using my remote key and everything happened again. I disconnected the battery and pulled the fuses but after reconnecting the battery and reinstalling the fuses, the problem persisted. I contacted Dodge Chrysler and they transferred me to my local dealer. I took the car in first thing Monday morning but the service department could not replicate the problem and no codes were stored. I picked up my vehicle that evening and within 3 miles of the dealership, my Nitro horn, wipers and washer fluid all activated. I immediately returned to the dealer and left my car. The service department was able to replicate the problem but Dodge Chrysler would offer no cost assistance to replace a faulty tipm (totally integrated power module). I was informed that I would have to pay for the $750 repair myself. There are numerous reports of this and other incidents involving the tipm for not only Dodge but Chrysler and Jeep products. Dodge Chrysler Jeep corporation needs to be held accountable.
I stopped my car and went to open the driver door from the interior handle and the plstic piece inside the door panel snapped and the handle was no longer functioning. I am now unable to open my car from the interior.
Drivers side front door handle snapped while trying to exit the vehicle. I had just purchased the vehicle (used) and asked about it being replaced and was told that it was not covered. I was told it would cost about $300 to replace (the handle was only about $70, the rest was labor). I did not feel that I should have had to pay for this expense and I did not have the "extra cash" at this time so I opted out for repair. A year later, the front passenger door handle snapped while trying to exit the vehicle. I refuse to pay for this unacceptable defect. This is a life threatening hazard and needs to be recalled.
A little over a year ago from today my daughter, age 16 was sitting in the front passenger seat. I parked the Dodge Nitro and when she went to open the door to get out the door handle broke. Yesterday 06/25/2013, my other daughter age 8, was sitting in the rear passenger seat because no one can sit up front due to door handle being broke and it being a safety issue, she went to open her door to get out of the parked Dodge Nitro and door handle broke in the rear now. After reading all kinds of post on the handles breaking after the first one broke I usually roll down my window to get out of my car. The dealership quoted me 350. 00 to replace handle, I am a single parent and do not have that kind of money. I contacted Dodge to file a complaint originally and they do not care. I am terrified of the driver one breaking due to safety reasons and being stuck in my car so I only use it without rolling down window if it is raining. Something has to be done about these horrible handles in the Nitros, it is happening to too many people.
No air conditioining paying 400. 00 each year for the last three years, only to get air for ten minutes. Secondly I heard on tv that Nitro 2007 had a recall. I never received any information in the mail. How many times do I pay all of this money getting no results.
When opening door from inside, door handle broke off. Also happened to back seat handle driver side.
The harddrive of the mygig stereo system of the 2007 Dodge Nitro rt has a malfunction. Three times, within the two years we have owned the car, the hardrive has erased all music, photos, and/or addresses from it's database without reason. Each time all media was on hard drive the day before, only to be completely gone the following day. The last time this incident happened was in November 2009.
Stopped for gas, after filling up vehicle wouldn't start. No lights, no sound of any kind nothing would happen. The vehicle was completely dead. Had vehicle towed to Dodge dealer where it was bought they said they replaced the starter but I'm sure it was the total power interface module.
