The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro. The contact stated that a grinding noise was heard while reversing at 2 mph. When shifted into drive and proceeding forward, the wheels seized. The contact shut the vehicle off and upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 06v341000 (power train: automatic transmission) and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 104,897.

2 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2007

When driving the vehicle, as it shifts through the gears it may shift flawlessly or very erratically. When shifting erratically it goes from gear to gear with a hard banging noise from under the vehicle, or it shifts through the gears and bogs down with a vibration from under the floor boards. The vehicle has been in twice so far for this problem. The first time the power control module was reprogrammed but this did not help. The second time a part was reprogrammed that was on a recall but this didn't help either.
