36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2015

I purchased a 2008 Dodge Nitro about 2 years ago. Everything was great until about a month ago. First the heater went out. Next the dash lights and radio started to flicker and dim. Now the only time the lights turn on in the dash area and radio area, is when I turn my right blinker on. I was pulled over last week and was told my 2 brake/tail lights were out, and only the brake light bar on the lift gate was working. I replaced the bulbs and still no lights. I have all the fuses check and also had the brake switch changed. . . And nothing! I took my car to 1 mechanic who could not find the issue. Now, my check engine light went on so I was able to take my car back to the mechanic. He found an abs brake sensor issue. . . But that was not causing 2 of my 3 brake lights to malfunction. He believes the issue is with my tipm and it will cost me a few hundred more, just to confirm this was the issue. Dodge also wants to charge me a few hundred to look at my car and diagnosis this issue. Its very frustrating to know that this car manufacturer is aware of all the issues with the tipm and they are not willing to cover the cost. I feel like I bought a lemon. I loved Dodge before this. My other car is a 2006 Dodge magnum and its still hanging in their just great. I really hope this part is recalled on all models.

The wipers stopped working and the lights blink on and off while I was driving around a curve on a rainy night. Also the car wouldn't excellerate. When I pulled over I was almost hit by a truck. 41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2015

Tipm. Absolutely no warnings and/or codes. I went to start my vehicle, it ran for about 10 seconds and died. Took it to the dealer which cost me a total of $1232. 00. I have seen reports this module can fail while driving, if these reports are in fact true, I absolutely do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

When filling the gas tank up as the pump kicks off at least half a gallon of gas spills out of the tank splashing onto my legs and spilling on to the ground. I bought this vehicle used and was told to contact a Dodge dealer about a possible recall but the dealership has told me there isn't a recall but they've had several complaints about this issue. Also, recently I have been unable to lock my vehicle because a few seconds after activating the locks either manually or using the key fob the car unlocks and the headlights come on. I had to take the battery out of my key fob as it would continuously unlock and activate the headlights during the day and night. When manually locking the vehicle it still unlocks itself a few seconds later but does not continually unlock like when the key fob is in use.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2015

My 2008 Dodge Nitro had a failure of the total integrated body control module around 91000 miles. It caused my wipers to turn on and stay on continously even when the vehicle was turned off. There has been recalls on this part for the year before my car was made and I'm concerned it may be a continuing problem. It cost 560 dollars to correct the error.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

Vehicle began having problems starting and I was told by leith Dodge that it was a faulty fuel pump which was replaced. Then the same issue has come up again. After reading about the problem I have discovered it is something known to Dodge at the time of my purchase which they lied to me when I asked them about said issue. I have been told this time it is a faulty tipm. In researching I found out that Dodge has known this for years.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

In September we had to have the tipm replaced in our 2008 Dodge Nitro. This has gone out again. The windshield wipers just run and I have not turn signals. I also cannot turn off any other lights. There is not 1 available in the country. We are on hold while Chrysler searches to see if they have one. If not, we will be waiting while they make one. This tells me there is a bigger problem that they cannot even keep these in stock. They have recalled the 2010-2012. Recall the 2008. Chrysler seems to be ok with people driving illegally while they decide to make enough of these.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2014

Headlights came on by themselves and stayed on for approximately 30 seconds each time; this happened 3 times. The keys were lying on a table undisturbed. The doors have also locked by themselves.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

My vehicle was parked in the garage and I tried to start it numerous of times and nothing happened. A diagnostic test was done and nothing could be found. I had it towed to Dodge dealership and three days later I received a phone call stating that it was my tipm. I have read a lot of complaints and I see even if replaced it may still have issues. I feel like something need to be said to the manufacture and this issue should be consider a recall so no one would have to come out of pocket for these issues because it is not the buyers fault, there is nothing that we could do to prevent this. . . This is not safe for anyone. I have children and if my truck would have started blaring out of control and stopping in the middle of the street I don't know what I would have done. What will it take for them to take this situation seriously. Do someone need to have a horrible accident??? I am having to pay 1254. 00 for an issue I had no control of. This is not fair.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

At first my back hatch started saying it was open when it was not and running the battery down. Then my windshield wipers stopped working followed by my power door locks stopped working right after I put my daughter in her carseat and walked around to the drivers side to get in, the car automatically locked itself, luckily there was a key hole on the drivers side and I had to unlock it and crawl in the back to get the door unlocked to get her out, which was very hard to do concidering I had just had surgery. After I got everything unlocked nothing would lock again. The back hatch is locked permantly because there is no other way to get it open but power locks. Then my heater blower stopped working. It is the totally integrated power module that is malfunctioning and I was told eventually the signals or nothing will work and will make it very dangerous to drive. This is a major safety issue that Dodge has known about for a long time. The tipm is on national back order and they have no clue when my vehicle can get fixed!!!!! I am beyond amazed that this hasn't been resolved before now.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

I have a 2008 Dodge Nitro that has a faulty tipm, as I was driving the car shut off completely. All lights came on on the dash and the passenger air bag seemed to go off in the glove compartment. Windshield wipers, all fluids, honk and lights were going on and off as if it had a mind of its own. I am now out almost $1,600 and car still does not turn on. The tipm is on national backorder due to the overwhelming demand and Chrysler has recalled this vehicle for this known issue but not my year. (2008) I have filed a complaint with carcomplaints. Com already. I have called Chrysler and all they do is take my report and say they will call be if its recalled. Im at a loss. I dont know what to do anymore.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

All things electrical go crazy, locks are locking and unlocking on there own, even when I am driving down the road and eventually don't work at all. Lights don't work on drivers side of car. I push the brake and the dome light in the hatch area on passenger floor light up. All sensor lights are on, in the dash area, seat belt, brake, air bags, etc. Brake light is flashing on and off and dinging when it feels like it. This is an on going problem for a lot of the 2008 Dodge Nitro and I see 152 complaints alone on this website and a lot more on the carcomplaints. Com. Since they are no longer making this vehicle, but a majority of people that bought this 2008 Nitro are having this problem. I beg you to please look into this and have a recall on this! thank you!.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2013

This vehicle caught on fire in may, we got it put out, and I turned it into my insurance company, they had us take it to a garage and I did. I took it to waterfront Jeep garage, they said they didn't see anything that had been on fire and we told them how the wires are and everything. We paid $94 to get it back. I was taking my daughter and niece (1yearold), nephew(2yearold)swimming and decided to go pick my husband up first, I dropped my nephew off and was going home, stopped at my mother in laws and it was smoldering with smoke we all got out safe but my vehicle burnt. The insurance company now is geico, and they have been good at taking care of it, but they don't pay the whole loan off, only what it was worth, which is -600. The bank keeps charging interest but what to do until they are paid. My question is can I do anything about waterfront sending us back out in an unsafe car or the insurance company I had then, which I had to pay the taxes of the difference of the rental car since they don't pay taxes.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2013

The Dodge Nitro has to be the most poorly made car I have ever owned. They just replaced my entire gas tank 2 weeks ago and another letter came in the mail, regarding a recall with the drive shaft. So far 2 recalls and now my car is unlocking itself and turning on its interior and exterior lights on its own. My car was parked in my driveway and keys in the house. A young man from next door came to my door to inform me that my lights were on. We locked the doors and watched the lights go off, only to find them back on an hour later and doors unlocked. Woke up the next morning to find my car dead. At first we thought it was the battery and replaced it for the 3rd time in 5 years, but the problem continues to occur. A friend of mine also has a Nitro that experienced the same problem several months ago. She had to pay $600 for them to rewire her car.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

Electrical doorlocks stopped working had it diagonised on machine could not find promblem. Please help.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Nitro. While driving 30 mph, the contact stated that both front and rear wipers began to malfunction. The warning lamps illuminated and when the vehicle was turned off it drained the battery. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the module was reprogrammed. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69000.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

The windshield wipers either won't come on at all or will continually move all over the windshield as you drive. The wiper malfunction is extremely worse if you have the headlights on and use the turn signal. This causes them to quickly fully extend to the very edge of the windshields drivers side. This causes extreme visibility problems. The Dodge dealership has not been able to fix the problem after several visits and multiple attempts of replacing parts including the turn signal wand and the entire wiper assembly. The mechanic said Dodge recommended replacing the tipm, which the manufacturer was aware of a huge problem with this part on Nitros. After doing some research I could not believe all the complaints with no action being taken by Chrysler or the government for my model year. Recalls were issued for older years, so why not the 2008 with the same problems? I can't safely drive my car with my vision constantly comprimised and I can't even sell it with all the horrible reviews. Now it just sits in my driveway because I am too nervous to drive it with these problems.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2013

The 2008 Dodge Nitro slt's alarm randomly went off in the parking lot and would not stop even after attempts to turn off the alarm with remote key. Windshield wipers were also turned on while the fluid was constantly squirting out. Even after driving the car alarm and wipers would not stop. This issue happened several time until one day when the vehicle stopped making any type of sounds (no honking, no alarm). Problem is said to be caused by the tipm. Lack of honking caused numerous potential accidents by failing to warn other drivers. I am complaining so that Chrysler issues an overdue recall for the tipm as numerous other consumers are experiencing the same issue.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

We have a 2008 Dodge Nitro that we had just bought in Nov 2012. After driving it a few months the radio has shorted out and keeps making all kinds of noises. I am afraid its going to cause and electrical fire.

66 Electrical System problem

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Nitro. The contact was attempting to reverse and when the back-up assist system haphazardly alerted that there was an object behind the vehicle. The contact stated that there were no objects or persons behind the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that one of the back-up sensors was pushed inward and the plastic between the bumper was melted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician advised that the exhaust pipe was rusted and fractured. The technician also stated that the exhaust pipe, bumper and back up sensor would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2012

Had a spring under cylinder break, $375 to fix. Replaced the tipm $555. 95 now the skim needs to be replaced. I have been waiting since 8/28/15 for the part to come in. It is now 9/5/15 and the dealerships telling me they don't now where the part is and why it hasn't came in yet. Also since it is a hoilday weekend they can't find out any thing until 9/8. I have no other means of transportation. Very frustrated! I will tell everybody I see with a Nitro to go trade it in ASAP buy anything but a Dodge!.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

A week after I bought the truck I was driving home and all the lights on the dashboard came on. There was a slight shaking from time to time when I would go and stop. It did not do it every time I drove it. I took it to the dealer and told them I did not want the truck. They told me there was nothing they could do that they would fix the problem for free. I had to fight with them for 3 months to figure out what was wrong. They never gave me a direct answer, but said they fixed the problem . The following month the abs light came back on, and I took the truck back again. I described the shaking that didn't happen all the time. They made the light go off, and told me if the shake happened I should bring it while it was happening because they couldn't tell otherwise what the issue was. About 2 months ago, my back brake locked up and started smoking after my vacation which the heat shield was flapping in the wind out of no where on the ride home and fell off when I stopped(still yet to be fixed). I replaced the caliper, brake, and the rotors. I had the front checked and they said the brakes were fine. 2 weeks later the shaking started again, and the front brake locked up and started smoking. I had to repeat replacing all the same parts. 2 weeks later again! the front brake started locking up so hard it pulled to the left, and was glowing red when I pulled over. I took it to Dodge this time, and they told me the brake line had collapsed. When will this end and are all these things related to the recalls? if not considering I drive my 4 children in this car and it is a danger what can I do about it? why did they not tell me these cars have these issues, and why are they selling them and not notifying buyers of potential life threating problems. The coils, and brakes and all are rusty like a old car I don't understand how a car as new and well taken care of could be this way.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2012

This problem has not caused an accident but it has caused the gasoline to shoot out of my gas tank and drench me in gas several times. I believe if there is a sensor in my gas tank that it is not working properly enough to indicate that the tank is full or close to full when I'm pumping gas. When I pull out the nozzle the gas shoots out all over the place ( this is after the gas has shut off at the pump). Don't know if there have been similar incidents reported but it is important enough for me to complain about it. The Dodge dealer that sold us the vehicle when new does not seem to want to take the time to investigate my complaint so I'm looking to other sources to see if this is just a random problem or one that is worth investigating further for everyone's benefit.

70 Electrical System problem
