Dashboard Crack problems of the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 - part 2

I own a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 and the dash is cracking all to pieces. I just heard a story about how when this happens the sharp pieces can cut my wiring beneath the dash.

Own a Dodge Ram 1500 (1999). Dash began cracking about a year ago, now it has huge holes where the dash has literally broken off in chunks! I'm concerned that the dash could become a hazard if there were a crash (would it become shrapnel?), will this problem affect the airbags?.

Dashboard cracked in half in two places,and cracking more and more each day,one of the big cracks is in front of the air bag. Found many complaints on the web about these Dodge dashboards falling apart,this could be a real safety problem I hope something is done about, I know Dodge ain't doing nothing about!.

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 with 64,000 miles. Just recently I have noticed that the dash developed a crack that grew in length on the drivers side. Now there is a nother crack on the passenger side of the truck. The crack on the drivers side goes from the windshield all the way to the top of the dash. The other one isn't that big but it is starting to get bigger.

I bought my 99 Dodge ram new in tucson, az. Within a couple of months I bought a carpet dash cover to protect the dash from the sun. Have not looked under cover till truck experienced heater core problems. Took truck in to get part fixed and was informed my entire dash was cracked. I never used protective chemicals like armoral or removed the dash cover, so sunlight/chemicals should not have caused this problem. As with other people with this "Dodge dash crack" problem I have lost my right front speaker and other electronic equipment appears to be having issues. Nothing specific yet except for the speaker. Have appointment for truck, but don't expect much as my truck is sitting at 64,000+ miles and it is a few years past warranty. Am concerned that the dash could be causing electrical problems which could lead to fire or air-bag deployment.

Dash board is cracking all over. It just started a few months ago and is getting worst. My truck is in show condition and this really bites. I think Dodge should fix this problem with a recall. I don't think my airbag will work because the housing it seats into is cracked too.

The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed that the dashboard was cracked and over time it had increased in size. The contact also stated that he experienced electrical problems with his stereo due to the crack in the dashboard. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

I recently purchased a 1999 Dodge ram laramie slt. After having it for a few months I noticed that the dashboard was cracked and craking in numerous places. After a few weeks I now have numerous holes in my dash board. It is begining to look like a jig saw puzzle. This is a serious defect that can cause serious damage.

Cracked dashboard: all of a sudden my dashboard started to crack for no reason. Cracking pieces were falling under the dashboard, possibility of slicing wires. Exposed wires werr now exposed to the sunlight. Could cause melting of the wires. Dodge won't replace the item even though it is an obvious defect across all of Dodge's trucks.

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 dash has cracked, split and sunk in since the purchase and every day there is new cracks appearing! one popped so hard when I turned the heat on low that a small piece of the dash flew up and got lodged in my eye. This has been non stop with this dash.

When ridding down the road, I was cut off by another car I turned the wheel to avoid hitting the car and I hit the curb that was about 3 inches high. When I hit the curb my dash board cracked. There is a big hole in the middle, a long crack straight across. I called my insurance company to claim but was denied because of a manufacture default. Dealer said it will cost me about 3,500 to fix. I was only going 7 miles per hour.

The dashboard has racks in multiple places and the enter finally fell in onto the top of the radio. The truck has never been abused or in a wreck. I walked outside one morning and noticed the dashboard cracked. About a week later is when the center fell in.

My 1999 Dodge ram truck 1500 began getting cracks on the dash in 2006. I reported it and was told there is not anything that can be done since it is not a recalled part. Since that time I have a huge opening on my dash and continues to get larger every day. I am concerned about safety issues such as air bag, electrical system, steering wheel, power brakes. I am a single mother with this as my primary and only vehicle and well I need not tell you what you already know. . . I can not afford to be w/o transportation nor w/o safety regarding my vehicle.

The dashboard on the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 and most Dodges from 1994-2001 specifically are cracking all over the country. We had a crack in the dashboard after getting the air conditioner fixed. We thought it was there fault but due to the high number of dashboards being shattered in these trucks from many people I don't think it is. Now the whole dash is in danger of caving in. This has been reported in the news many times and people are getting fed up. This could cause electrical damage and the sharp plastic from the jagged cracks can hurt someone. I believe the dashboards need to be recalled or someone will be hurt.

I purchased my 99 Dodge truck in 2001 and have always maintained it. About 2 years ago I noticed a crack develop on the dash. This crack has grown and spider out and now the entire dash is broken into pieces. I have covered the dash with a plastic cover because Dodge would not repair the issue. The entire dash has continued to crack under my cover and will eventually crumble to pieces. I think this is a safety hazard.

My 1999 Dodge ram dashboard just seemed to explode one morning in 2006. There were no apparent cracks before incident. Just all of a sudden the whole dash cracked and big pieces of it fell off leaving large holes in the top of dash.

I was driving down the road about a year ago and my dash board cracked from the window about 6 inches up. The cracks have multiplied since then to 12 cracks and some parts of the dash have fallen into the dash. I drive a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. I called the dealer and they quoted me $550 for the top part of the dash. I know of 6 other people with the same problem and would like to have my dash replaced by the dealer. This is an obvious defect.

You can add my name to the long list of others who have a cracked dashboard on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. It has been cracked for some time now but I thought I was just unlucky but after doing some research I found that there are many people with the same problem but Dodge will do nothing to fix the problem which I consider unethical.
