1 Fail To Slow Down problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2012

While driving 75 mph on the highway I took my foot off of the gas pedal, but the truck continued to speed up. I pumped the gas a couple of times but I failed to slow down. I applied the brakes, but each time I took my foot off of the brake I sped up again. I exited up an off ramp where I had to stand on the brake to keep form hitting the car infront of me at the light. I geared down(stick shift) but the engine continued to rev as if at 75 mph still. I turned off the key then restarted the truck only to have the engine continue to rev. I then had the truck towed to my mechanic who looked at it that night and the next morning but was unable to find out why it happened. This model does not have computer control of the throttle. I am grateful I was on a straight stretch of highway and not on a mountain road on the way home, and that I didnt hit anyone in the process of stopping. . . This is not the first Dodge to do this according to this web site. Perhaps there a so few complaints about this because other drivers have died as a result of a failure that seems to be undetectable after the fact. If I had hit the car infront of me, I would have had no proof that it was equipment failure and not operator error. . . If I had lived to tell the tale. I used to have complete faith in Dodges, but no more.
