I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 slt. Although I have taken extremely good care of this truck, the dash has cracked into a million pieces. It is about to fall in. I doubt my air bags would function properly in a crash, due to the decreased strength of the surrounding areas, and the fact that the top of the dash is about to fall into the air bag compartment on the passenger side. Electrical wires can be seen through the cracks. Every time I turn the blower on near the windshield, tiny pieces of dash that have broken off blow up and around the truck, often into my eyes. I want to complain about the dash cracking and falling completely apart. I have sharp pieces sticking out everywhere and if I hit something and the air bags came out they would pop. You can see in my engine. I'm also scared if some pieces fell into my engine it could tear up something. Mostly worried about mine and my passengers safety. Why was this not on a recall list? I have read that it is a defect for this year Dodge.
My 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 has had the dashboard disinigrating since 30,000 miles as I was informed by the previous owner. It only had cracks but since I have owned it the dash has literally disinigrated with sharp objects flying about the cab when windows are down. My research suggest that Chrysler used inferior products as a cost reduction, did not aquire the proper manufacturing temperatures which results in cracking, and the dash is inadequatly mounted causing flexing. This is a very dangerous situation. . . . . . . . . And not a cosmetic issue as Dodge has hidden behind!! when the dash breaks, sharp objects are in flight throughout the cab. When it breaks near the air bags, I believe they will deploy themselves and that alone is a serious event while driving in traffic! Dodge has a history all the way back to my first purchase of a brand new 1973 Dodge ram, ignoring warranty and making excues of why things aren't their fault! it's high time this company assumes it's responsibility especially after tax payers bailed them out!!!! I have fought many battles with this company concerning warranty issues as well where a brand new 1976 Dodge ram I purchased spun the races in the rears as a result of defective manufacturing!!! the time for making excuses is old, it's time for action and assuming responsibility for an inferior product!!!.
The dash in my 2001 Dodge ram has cracked and pieces and some break off and fly around the cab of my truck while in motion. . I have 13 grand children and some pieces fly in the back seat. Can anyone do anything about this at all before anyone gets hurt? its not my fault that Dodge bought cheap effective dash boards, please look in to this it would help a lot to get a replacment. My 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 dash board started to crack around 2003, and is still cracking now. I had the truck inspected, and when the tech put the sticker on the window his hand went through the dash board, and now there is a big fist sized hole in my dash board. When it is cold my windshield fogs up so bad that I need to pull over and stop. This is due to the big cracks, and holes in my dash board. I almost ordered a molded dash cap, but I thought gluing this cap to a bad foundation (dash board) is a bad idea. Dodge needs to replace my dash board, because I think eventually something will go wrong. This is a defect because there is evidence of many people with the same exact problem.
The dashboard in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is cracking and having large pieces fall under the dash itself. I am worried that this could cause injury to driver and/or passenger in the event of an accident or accidental airbag deployment. Other issues could come from this problem due to all the wiring and other components that are under the dashboard.
2001 Dodge Ram 1500 bought new,I'm original owner ,after owning 1 year dash started cracking, I eventually called Chrysler and complained, they said it was a sun problem after 3 years I called again and complained after noticing hundreds of problems with Dodge dashboards all cracking they said its out of warranty well now Nov 2016 it's basically coming apart all over I don' t know if anyone has been seriously injured from this. I only have 65,000 on this truck. My suggestion is to get a class action suit against this crappy company, then maybe the thousands of vehicles in question will be repaired,or give us our purchase price back.
