Dodge Ram 1500 pickup - the dash is cracking and collapsing; it appears this could easily interfere with the passenger air bag and is a very real safety issue yet the manufacturer is ignoring the issue we need some action.

We own a 2001 Dodge ram club cab. My husband bought this truck used but in great condition February 2006. When purchased it had a tiny crack in the dash up near the windshield nothing worth making a big deal of. Over the last four years so many cracks have appeared you cant tell it used to be one piece! one time I was driving and heard a noise, turning off the radio and stopping the truck I looked up to find the dash literally breaking apart before my eyes. These cracks are the entire width of the truck. Driver side to passenger side. Dodge needs to take responsibility for their product. Since when are they exempt from having to own up to their failures. It is a shame that they are ruining their own name by turning their heads to this obvious problem. They make some great trucks, so why would they want to ruin their own reputation by not taking care of this?.
Dash cracking and falling apart.
2001 Dodge Ram 1500 dash cracked!.
Since approximately, Nov 2009, the entire dash of this vehicle has been slowly cracking and deteriorating, several pieces have fallen inside the dash which make retrieveing the broken pieces impossible. There are holes in the dash as well as numerous cracks, my concern is this ongoing issue will lead to a major collapse of the dash driving down a road, and or the unretrievable pieces rubbing on wires and causing a short resulting in a fire. I have tried to reason with daimler Chrysler corp, but all I get is there is nothing we can do. I have never had such a issue with the dash cracking and deteriorating that this is a concern as well as a safety hazard for myself as well as other Dodge owners. (the area I am trying to describe is from the top of the dashboard clear to the windshield ) all I would like to do is get the dash replaced, so I can pass this vehicle on to one of my kids without worries of any further incidents thanks for your time, I look forward to discussing this matter with you.

The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the top of the dashboard was cracked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that there were no recalls for the failure. Dashboard crack last week my wife noticed that the dashboard on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab was cracked . We seem to think it may have occurred quite a while ago but was never noticed before .
Cracked dash on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 . Shards from dash can cause electrical problems and/or airbag problems.
I bought a used 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 ext. Cab 1/2 ton pick-up truck in December of 2008 and my dash boards had no cracks in it at that time ,but my dash board is now cracking and collapsing. As far as I know Dodge does not have a recall at this time. But there is alot of problems with the dash boards cracking and collapsing onto the electrical wiring causing shorts. From either exposure to sun light or the parts of the dash boards falling onto the electrical components is causing problems due to inferior products being used to make the dash boards. Is there anyway to make Dodge fix this problem?.
I currently own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. Since owning the vehicle the dashboard has begun to crack in numerous places for no reason. Dodge refused to recall the vehicle, even though hundreds of other Dodges have had this same issue. Also from news broadcasts about this issue electrical problems have developed which can cause major vehicle safety issues.
Purchased 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 as new. In summer of 2009 dashboard started to crack in numerous areas. We placed duct tape on it. However, this did no good, as the cracks have gotten bigger and the center of the dashboard has a big crater in it. It's only a matter of time until the dash literal breaks to pieces. A $30k truck should be better equipped with quality material. At one point will the integrity of the air bag be compromised! this is a risk to all 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 owners and should be recalled before someone gets seriously injured or killed from flying parts. This is also a costly repair depending on where you live, it is between $900 - $2000.
The dashboard cracked and now has a hole in it. I contacted my local Dodge dealer and they would not offer any assistance with the replacement of the dash. The dash cracking and failure could lead to electrical issues as seen with other Dodge Ram 1500's.
My dash board began cracking and falling apart. Finally, just caved in when heater core was being replaced. I cut myself and nearly burnt myself by the heater core trying to get the pieces out. This is a major hazard!!.
Dashboard on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is cracking. No specific event precipitated the failure. A cloth dashcover was placed on top of the dash in an attempt to minimize injury if pieces of the dash would be disloged in a crash. The passenger air bag is in the area of the cracking and there is concern that an air bag deployment would also propel sharp pieces of the cracked dashboard towards the passengers in the vehicle.
Vehicle's dash board is cracking, presumably due to sunlight and possibly lack of uv inhibitors in the plastic. There are several cracks and open holes above the instrument cluster. This causes a hazard because various wiring and electronic components, including airbag systems, are located under the dash panel. Sunlight could cause harm to the wiring and inadvertent spills by occupants could compromise the various systems contained in the dashboard.
My dash has been cracking out over the last year . The cracks look identical to pictures of other Dodge truck dashes I've seen on the internet and news. I and so many other owners are experiencing cracks that a safety recall should be issued immediately before someone is seriously injured because of the faulty plastic used on all these Dodge trucks.
The dashboard had one crack in it when it had about 38,000 miles, then at about 40,000 miles the dash started cracking worse and now at 52,000 miles it has cracked so bad there are large pieces of the dash broken completely out of it. This is a very common problem with 98-06 Dodge ram's and Dodge knows about the problem. My main concern is with the large pieces being broken out. If you get into an accident large pieces of the dash could go flying and injure someone or when and if the airbag deploys the force of that could cause these pieces to go flying or more pieces to break off and go flying, which could be very dangerous in a collision.
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 sport model. The dashboard began to crack last summer. It only has 83,000 miles on it and I keep it under a garage. I believe it will continue to crack until it falls in. I am afraid this could lead to serious safety problems. There are many people having the same problem. At this time Dodge will not do anything to help. I believe this is a design problem.
2001 Dodge pickup . Got in one morning and the dash was cracked. It had not been driven for a least a week . No apparent reason for this. Got in the truck another day and there were two more cracks. To this date the truck still only has 18,000 miles on it. I think Dodge should replace these dashes. 8/11/09.
My 2001 and my fathers 2002 Dodge ram pickups both our dashboards are completely cracked and now have cracked the 2002 windshield and are a complete danger if airbags go off will cause shrapnel to fly and cause injury or death Chrysler was contacted of both vehicles and they denied there was any problem. Going over forums and online there are thousands of people with the same problem and Dodge must be held accountable for this.
Vehicle manufacture defect dash is cracking apart.
Dash cracking.
The dashboard of my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 and my brother's 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 as well have severe dashboard cracks. The cracks have gotten so bad that there are now large holes in the dash and shards of jagged plastic covering my entire dashboard. I thought this was a local problem then I found that there are hundreds of other complaints as well.
Dashboard started to crack near defrost vents. Eventually they worked their way up. Driver side is cracked and there is a hole in the middle of the dash. Passenger side is cracked all the way up to the top of the airbag housing. There is also a hole on that side as well. I feel this is a saftey issue that if the airbag goes off on the passenger side. The plastic pieces fill fly around inside the cab causing injury.
Dash board cap was cracking, then collapsing, and now has fallen in.
The dash is cracked to the point that it surrounds the passenger air bag if it were to ever be used there would be sharp debris from the dash in large and small pieces it could seriously injure someone plus you can not find a replacement from the dealership.
Purchased the truck used, but after reviewing websites and forums realize that this is an issue and I would like to be counted in the number of complaints of cracks across the dash board. Approximately 20 inches long across the top instrument panel side of the dash.
Major cracks appeared on the passengers side dashboard. There are two significant crack in the dash that extended within one day. Yesterday no crack in dash, today two major ones. Concerned that the damage will not cease and may crack in other areas possibly exposing electrical components or become unsafe for pass agers where there are sharp shards.
Dash cracking. Dealer said not their problem.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when he noticed that the dashboard was developing cracks. The failure progressed over time and the cracks became larger. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 75,000.
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with 84,000 miles the dash board start to crack and now it has a big hole in it this is causing the engine light to go on some times and the dash board lights to go on and of at night and its difficult to concentrate I try to have a mechanic fix it and they said to take it to the dealer because since the dash is broken they will not warranty their work.
The 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 has a problem with the dash cracking and breaking off. Now Dodge has refused to repair this problem but in my opinion this is a major risk factor. By allowing the dash to crack and fall into the wire system infront of the driver and passenger, its a fire hazard waiting to happen. By not fixing the problem Dodge is risking the lives of hundreds of people if not thousands. Dodge is also losing out on life time buyers like my self that do not want to put their lives at risk. The risk of a fire is to great in my opinion and if one life can be saved by the recall or if the fire causes someone to crash into someone else or being trapped in the fire and being burned to death this needs to be recalled.
2001 Dodge Ram 1500 50,000 miles bought new. Dash board cracking above airbag from windshield to air bag. I called a dealer about it and they said there was no recall that was the end of it. Now I see others are having the same problem. Buying dash cap.
