general problems of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 - part 1

The dash on my 2001 Dodge 1500 truck is cracking and breaking up exposing the wiring in the dash.

Dodge Ram 1500 truck, 2001, dash is falling apart as I drive. Pieces fall to include the glove box and the shelf which is a large part of the vehicle's dash. The instrument panel is hanging on and I can't secure it back. Distracting to say the least.

Dash on my 2001 Dodge ram quad cab is falling into chunks and they have fallen into my tilt steering causing ignition wires to come loose causing the engine and all systems to fail ! near collisions have been on many occasions. Dashboard of my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is cracking all over. I am worried that the airbags will not function correctly if needed. Head lights are no longer staying put, if I hit a bump they move.

The dashboard of my 2001 Ram 1500 pickup recently started cracking for no apparent reason. The cracks were straight line cracks from the screw holes on the passenger side and not the spiderweb type that result from exposure. Yesterday a piece broke off over the ventilation intake and fell into the dash and suddenly black smoke began pouring out of the vents. A travel fire extinguisher had to be emptied into the vent system to keep the cab from becoming engulfed. Chrysler says there is no recall even though I have found hundreds of complaints about this same problem. If one of my friends did not have the extinguisher in their car this might have ended with loss-of-life - mine. The vehicle smells like smoke whenever it is started and I am concerned that it will catch fire again if I attempt to drive it.

During airbag deployment, or the forces incurred during a crash, shards of plastic from the dash can strike the occupants causing serious injury or death. This is a widespread problem among Dodge ram trucks of this date range. It is such a widespread problem, in the interest of occupant safety, Dodge should recall and replace the dashes.

In addition, the air bag on/off switch was attached to the panel, the headlamp switch, instrument cluster, and other controls. The contact was concerned that the failure could cause electrical issues and prevent the air bags from deploying or operating correctly. The dealer was no longer in business. The contact stated that the failure has been occurring since 2009 and was initially informed that it was a cosmetic issue with the vehicle. The manufacturer was informed again of the failure and stated that since the vehicle was sixteen years old with 240,000 miles, it could not be serviced by them. The failure mileage was 110,000.

I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500, and the dashboard is completely falling apart from cracking. I have had erratic electric problems, which is probably due to wires being severed or frayed by dash pieces, and my biggest fear is the passenger airbags. Who is to say that the airbag isn't damaged, either from sharp dash pieces or sun exposure? this is a safety issue!.

The dash is falling apart it is hard to get the warm air onto the windshield to defog or melt snow and see clear.

I bought my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Nov 2004, everything on my dash was fine. I went on a detachment for two weeks and when I got back I noticed a small crack in the middle of my dash. I went to the Dodge dealer and they said there was nothing that they could do. So I started looking for a new one and no one sold it online except for in the junkyards which most of them were worse then mine. I went on cruise at the end of 2005. My father had my truck while I was gone. When I had returned not only did the crack get bigger but a hole grew right in the middle of my dash. My dash is in two pieces now and is a hazard to my child and myself. I can't turn my airbag on the passenger side in fear that it will kill my passengers if I get into an accident.

The windshield sustained a dozen or more cracks, but did not shatter. He struggled with the hood in order to keep it from blocking his view, and managed to tie the hood down to the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 127,000.

I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. My dashboard began collapsing. My wife called Dodge and they advised her that it was not their problem because although this is happening a lot, there is no recall. They further advised her to call local dealerships to see if they could help. The dealerships advised that there would a $100-$200 deductible and they would get back to us, to date they have not. She called steve cooper at local 6 news who did a story on the issue.

The dashboard on my 2001 Dodge ram is cracking and crumbling. I contacted Dodge's (lack of) customer service (their reference number 1z256049, reps name was jessica). They told me (in so many words) that it is my problem not theirs. Obviously, they have my money now and are no longer concerned with my returning as a customer. So this is how the "new Dodge" is improving the company??? if they do not step-up to the plate and do the honorable thing, shame on them. Their reputation will continue to spread thus they will certainly pay for their shameful methods in the end. Regards, josh.
