45 problems related to structure have been reported for the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Dash came apart , cracking pieces falling down inside vents, sharp pieces everywhere due to poor material and cheap craftsmanship Dodge is going to get someone seriously hurt or killed over them not taking care of this issue that every Dodge owner has suffered from man up and make it right you don't mind sticking your hand out when its time to buy your trucks.
Driving on flat surface street, heard loud popping noise. Later realized it was the dash popping and noticed multiple straight cracks beginning in the corners of dash vents, gradually expanding. Creates multiple small, sharp shards of plastic. Potential for numerous projectiles of plastic if ever the airbags were to deploy not to mention now that the entire dash is weakened small parts intermittently fall into the dash area causing electrical problems with all the gauges, causing warning lights to illuminate and potential for fire is obvious considering other Dodge recalls for wiring problems in this model truck.
The dashboard on my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 has developed a crack (6-7 inches long) near the air bag of the passenger. I feel this to be a safety hazard as the air bag deployment could cause particles of plastic to be thrown at high speeds throughout the vehicle. The vehicle is a used ram and it is unknown if the crack was there prior to purchase or not. Because of the summer heat, the vinyl expands which closes the gap and now the cold weather contracts it and reveals the crack. This continuous expanding and contracting could cause, over time, the vinyl to become weak and break down further.
I was rear ended at a red light and my dash board sustained multiple fractures. Part of the dash board fractured and became airborne in the vehicle. It was the size of an iphone. There was also another part of the dashboard where a hole is present and the dash board is sunken in. Very disappointed with the quality and safety issues. Photos were forwarded to my attorney.
The dash cap in my Dodge Ram 1500 has cracked in several places. This has caused many very sharp shards of plastic that would be extremely dangerous in a collision resulting in unnecessary injury to any passengers in the vehicle. I firmly believe this should trigger a full recall of all trucks affected. Chrysler is aware of the problem and will not voluntarily start a recall. I myself have cut my fingers and hands just wiping off the dash board while cleaning. I beg of you to start an investigation before someone is injured very badly in an accident by these shards becoming projectiles. This problem affects hundreds of thousands of these trucks. Please take this very seriously!.
The dashboard in the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 has multiple hairline cracks and pieces are beginning to fall behind the dash. I'm afraid that these pieces could negatively impact the function of the airbags, heating / cooling system, or other electrical components of the vehicle. If there is an accident there could be fragments that break apart and could potentially cause eye damage or severe lacerations. I have found multiple complaints from numerous owners concerning this issue.
Thin cracks appeared on upper right of the main radiator, fluid leaking out. Car had not sustained any accident and is a clean title. My conclusion is that inferior products/polymers were used to manufacture this radiator. This is not an aftermarket radiator, but the one that came with the vehicle from the manufacturer.
The dashboard of my Dodge ram is disintegrating into sharp pointed shards of plastic. The plastic material which makes up the dash has changed in it characteristics so as to become quite brittle. The potential for these shards to become projectiles and/or anything coming in contact with the dash causing the dash to freely break apart into hundreds of knife-like blades and causing injury, is imminent. We have made giant strides in vehicle occupant safety by requiring shatter proof glass, requiring occupants to use seatbelts, etc. . Now we are facing other dilemmas where manufacturers have introduced materials in the manufacture of vehicles which may negate those safety progressive innovation government agencies have worked so hard to implement. Although my current concern may be preventive in nature I believe any reasonable and prudent person can easily deduce the potential for grave harm which may befall the consumer under the right circumstances. The Dodge dashboard represents a clear and present danger to the occupants of these vehicles.
The dash board of my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 is falling apart. There has been no abuse to what so ever but now I have a giant holes in it and its cracking all over the place. When I took it to the dealer ship they told me that if I want it fixed its gonna cost me almost $3000 (for parts and labor). I've already cut myself on a piece of sharp broken plastic so it very well could hurt someone. Something needs to be done!.

Dashboard on 2002 Dodge ram has cracked from front to back. After reading all complaints on this problem, I believe something (recall) needs to be done. Local dealership stated a cost of $2,550 to fix. Afraid that this will cause electrical problems as has so many of the complaints read so far. It would be nice to see the government make Dodge step up and pay for the cheap parts they put in their vehicles. Got a suggestion. Since the government owns Dodge, why don't you put some of my tax dollars towards fixing my truck. I know I can't afford $2,550.
The dashboard of my truck just started cracking. I'm afraid the direct sunlight is going to damage or short the wiring. The damage may cause failure of components. Also if accident occurs pieces of the dash may end up hitting the persons inside.

The dashboard on my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 truck is cracking. What will happen in an accident? what happens when the passenger air bag deploys? will plastic fragments act like projectiles and hurt occupants? contacted my dealer and Chrysler corp. With no help except for an option to replace for $1,100. Why should the consumer pay for a defective product? I don't have $1,100 to fix this problem and then have no guarantee if I'm not just buying the same type of product (junk). If it has been revised, then Chrysler knows it defective.

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. The dash is falling apart and Chrysler or the NHTSA won't recall or fix this issue. It involves the 98-2005 models. This problem is not getting any better through the years. Does someone need to get seriously hurt or killed to result in a recall? I am going to do my best to go national with this issue to get results from Chrysler or the NHTSA.
