Seven problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2016

While driving home from work, my Dodge ram truck rear axle locked up and threw the driveshaft out onto the road. Luckily no one was behind me. When I looked under the truck, there was transmission fluid everywhere. That's when I noticed the transfer case was cracked in half. I was left out in the middle of catfish lake road. Had to call family to come get me and called the tow truck company to have the truck towed back to the house. This incident happened on June 20, 2016 at approximately 08:00pm. I was on my way home from work. My truck could have flipped if I had not been able to keep it under control because the rear axle completely locked up. This could have resulted in a fatality.

2 Carrier/rack problem

3 Carrier/rack problem

The dash has begun to crack and has been popping lately I afraid that is going to fall a part complete my and damage my electrical or clogged my ac duck work.

4 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

The dashboard in these vehicles begins to crack over time due to defective plastic material. This is very unsafe due to the fact it can crack while you are driving and pieces of the plastic can shoot into the cab and injure any passengers. Doge needs to take action on this even though some models are older versions.

5 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2010

20004 Dodge ram cracked dasboard.

6 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2010

Cracked dash board.

7 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2004

The dashboard started cracking several years ago and has steadily gotten much worse. There was no impact, the dash simply cracked and seems to be disintegrating. The edges are now sharp like glass and I believe this presents a danger to the occupants in the event of an impact. Until now, I assumed mine was an isolated issue but recently decided to investigate how it could be fixed and came across hundreds of other complaints posted to various car complaint websites for the very same issue so I know this is a widespread issue.
