general problems of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

I was driving to work that morning traveling about 40 into the city when all of a sudden I heard a loud noise, I barely could handle the steering wheel to coast it to the side before it came to a complete hault, I look out my window and my drive shaft broke in 2 pieces was passing me on the main road. Front end was on the side shoulder, back end was out in the road. I jumped out of the truck and grabbed up both ends of my drive shafts and put in the back of my 04 Dodge ram truck, then started directing traffic on this busy road of morning commuters. Fluid was everywhere on the road so I'm trying to put sand from the side of the road onto the fluid that was on the road that had leaked out my truck all while directing traffic to keep from creating an accident. An law officer came ask was I alright, I answered explained what had happened and he never took a report instead replied with "seems like you got everything handled" and got back in his car and drove off. I called for a tow service for their assistance and requested it be took to a shop. Where it now sits unrivaled. It was inspected by the mechanic and learned that the pinyin nut had came off cause my rear end to lock up which caused my drive shaft to come out and when it hit broke it smooth into 2 pieces that caused damage to my transmission case. This could have ended very badly for me that day, I'm thankful that it didn't. But now my truck is tore up do to a faulty manufacturers pinyin nut. And I need my truck fixed so I can work and support my family. This was not my doings. I love my truck very much and desperately need it back up and running.

Driving on the freeway and the throttle sticks to the floor then releases about half way than stuck back to the floor. Could have caused a bad accident. This need to be investigated before someone gets killed if they haven’t already.

I was driving from colorado to indiana and all the sudden I heard a noise so I pulled over to the right side of the road. When a man came across the median and got a fire extinguisher from his truck and stated for me and my 3 dogs to get out because my truck was on fire. He stated that the driver shaft was on fire with flames by my gas tank.

The pinion nut has loosened up and that caused the driveshaft to become unstable and it has caused problems that have to be changed such as (crush slave, inner and outer bearings,spacers, and pinion nut) all have to be replaced. This same issue happened to the 2005 Dodge ram and they recalled those trucks just not the year of mine. I was driving my truck when this happened and it could have been extremely dangerous for my family and I and others on the road way if the driveshaft became unattached or the rear-end locked up on me.

Water is leaking into the cab from the grab bar located on the "a" pillar on the driver's side. I have researched this issue and there is a technical service bulletin (TSB #23-003-04) for this problem, which was issued for many model years of this type vehicle.

While driving, idling or coming to a stop with foot on the brake, the truck will lose power and shut off without warning. It happens constantly so it's not a reliable vehicle to drive to work or anywhere else. I have 2 kids that drive in the vehicle as well as a travel trailer that's pulled and it's unacceptable to happen. I've replaced parts I thought would fix it several times on several different occasions. It's shut off while turning onto a street or into a business so I'm just sitting in the middle of the road with cars driving towards me. It seems like a waiting game before an accident happens. I don't understand why there is no recall on this. There's forums with tons of people that this has happened to and people spend thousands of dollars to troubleshoot with the issue being unfixed. Also, this wasn't one incident. It happens constantly.

Airbags recall when to have it checki and the dash board broke apart like peanut brittle. Theay said they could not replace the dash board.

Just caught fire burned up common problem lots of fires.

On 03/02/2018 on or about 3:15pm I was driving my pickup. I was traveling at about 40mph when a heard a loud bang from under my truck my rear wheels then locked up and I start skidding out of control. Once stoped I got out of my truck and saw where the drive shaft had snapped away from the rear differential. I called aaa and was stuck for more than three hours, because the drive shaft was hanging and resting on the ground and the wheels had locked up. Two roll back tow trucks was sent out at different times to my location, but was unable to tow me because of the wheels being lock. So finally after a three hour wait a tow truck with a wheel lift was send out. This truck with the rear wheels locking up is very unsafe and I was fearful that I was almost killed today.

Rear axle assembly 2004 Dodge ram when I looked up the issue it showed recalls my vehical was included but I haven't recived anything . The fluid is leaking beacuse it gets to hot and errodes parts causing the leaks . I have had this documented by a auto shop and replaced the seals and other rear axle things and it continues to be an issue . 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 western new york.

The door lock on the driver's side remains in the locked position. It cannot be opened from the outside using the key fob or the key, it also cannot be opened from the inside by pulling up on the lock plunger. It can only be opened from the inside using the handle.

Odometer discrepancy purchased a vehicle from a sidelot in February 2016 went to trade vehicle in July 2016 and found out at the gm dealer that the odometer was replaced in 2014. Mileage was 134,000 in 2014 and then it dropped down to 116,000 after that.

My family and I was driving down the road. (we had just had the truck serviced about 4 days prior at our local dealership. ) all the sudden the truck makes this sound. I slowed down, rolled my window down trying to figure out if it was my vehicle or not. Very faint at first and increased with a loud boom. I get out to find my drive shaft on the ground. And the pinion nut nowhere to be seen. Gone. Luckily we were on a country road and my family is safe.

I recieved the safety recall notice sometime in the month of June. . . Having waited what seemed to be more than a reasonable amount of time for the unavailable parts to come in. . . I decided to just stop by the dealership on hwy 41 in henderson. July 7th 2014. Sometime between 1pm and 2pm. The gentleman expressed to me everything was on back order, that it was not likely to occur and he hasnt seen a truck needing this recal. He seemed unconcerned about my issue. He didnt ask my name. My number or acknowledge my letter. He said he was sure my number was in his data base and he would call when parts came in. This is our family vehicle that we drive on the regular!! having not purchased the vehicle 2 years ago if that from my brother in law. . . I doubt I am in his system!.

Rear axle locked up breaking off drive shaft. 5 min early it would have been a disaster.

I was just made aware of the new buy back recall and fine, on similar Dodge ram trucks like mine. The recall show 2004 Dodge ram 2600, 3600, but not my 1600. The reason for the buy back with the other two models just also happened to my 1600. It is also on the left hand side, just like all the others. I would like my included in the buy back and get rid of this lemon. My VIN # does not show anything but an airbag issue, that I not received any information on. VIN # 1d7hu16d24j181034. Thank you, I still owe over eight thousand dollars on the vehicle which is about kelly blue book price here in hawaii.

Popping and grinding in rear end popping in the cv axle front tires leaning in and wearing on inside with new tires and front end alignment have added new calipers rotors brakes 2 new cv axles and the problem still not fixed.

Last spring, April 2015, I noticed that my defroster was not operating properly. The air blows out of the a. C. Vents, but not the top dashboard vents. I went online to see: 1. How widespread the problem was (very common in older vehicles; I bought my truck new in 2004 from a dealer that is now out of business) 2. What the reaction from Dodge was ( $1. 500. 00 to repair, even though they must do an airbag recall repair in the same area) 3. How expensive it would be to have a professional repair job done ( est. $1,200. 00 - $1,500. 00) 4. How expensive/difficult it would be to attempt to repair myself (uniformly inexpensive parts are available in metal for around $50. 00, not the cheap Dodge plastic) ( do - it - yourself instructions are complex, counter-intuitive, time consuming. . . 8 hours or more, and require special tools as well as physical dexterity) I am stuck having to find $1,500. 00 for a repair, or drive in the fog this winter with no defrost. All because of a $1. 500. 00 repair bill for a $50. 00 part.

The dash modual that controls the interior lights, dash lights, and interior signals no longer works. The guages work and the signals work but there are no lights. This poses a safety issue because you cannot see your speed, oil, temp, and battery guages. Im not sure when iy went bad, I got into my truck one night and none of my interior lights worked.

Just like everyone else who owns a Dodge,I went to fuel up the truck and it went all over the ground rather than in the tank. . . Took it to the dealer. . . Check valve bad. . . Need new tank. . . . Never buy Dodge again. .

While coming to a stop, the truck lost all power and stalled. I immediately restarted the truck and proceeded to the next intersection, and it lost power and stalled again while braking to a full stop. I was able to make it two miles closer to my home, came to a stop and the engine revved up slightly, and then idled low to the point where I thought it was going to stall again. I got it home and had it towed to my mechanic. The truck was checked out, the truck did not stall after repeated testing for the next week. I picked it up, got a quarter mile down the road and it lost power and stalled again. I immediately returned it to the mechanic and, again, the truck did not duplicate the stalling, but the mechanic did see it rev up when coming to a stop. The mechanic replaced the idle positioning sensor and I picked up my truck only for it to stall on my way home. My mechanic has had my truck more than I have over the last two months and the problem remains undiagnosed. After basic research on Dodge forums, this is a problem that many other people are dealing with and nothing has been done to address this issue. This is a major safety issue considering that the truck loses power and stalls without warning in the middle of turns and coming to a stop. Please help resolve this issue before it costs someone their life. I am not the only person having this problem.

Open driver side door, I take the handle above the door to get in the truck seat, the handle came off, I went to a garage in my town to get it fitted they had to order a new one. It took about a week to get a new one, they put it on everything was ok. But now I am having trouble with it again, is there a call back on this handle? I am not having trouble with the passenger side, I think because the driver side is used more. Thank you, jim cooke.

I had the truck off, in park and e-brake engaged. A friend of mine was watching my child while I was pulled away and she had let him play with steering wheel (he loves playing with steering wheels). All of a sudden I hear the sitter screaming and turn around and saw my truck rolling down the inclined driveway with my toddler still in drivers seat and door open. I did what any sane mother would and tried to run to jump in and hit brake but ended up being dragged by the truck after it hit a pothole before crossing into a major road. When the truck finally came to a rest after crashing into a large fence with trees behind it, I managed to get my child out of truck and noticed the e-brake was still engaged. The truck has not been taken to a shop yet but will be soon. This is the only incidence of this malfunction with my truck that I know of and ive had it since 2009. However, I have previously had brake system issues where my brake lines popped off while I was driving down the highway. This really needs to be checked out. I now have a cervical spine injury, sprained wrist, sprained ankle, severe road burn where I was dragged, and multiple bruises, knots and scrapes. We were just lucky it happened after 5 o clock traffic had cleared out. There is a police report filed and my doctors have told me I need to look into getting an attorney.

I filled up all the way until the pump clicked at the gas station and then upon pulling out of the gas station the truck stalled into traffic while leaving the gas station. Less than a mile later I had to stop for a red light and truck stalled again. I bought the truck on 2/9/13 and the issue occured on 2/11/13. I took it to the dealership but because a code was not thrown it is my issue to deal with. I have avoided topping off at the pump and have to watch the amount of gallons of fuel I put in in order not to have the same situation occur again. This is not a valid fix in my opinion. I can see the situation exists with other owners of the same year of this vehicle as well. Why is this not being addressed?!?!?.

Interior hand grabs front seat both sides inside to assist in entering or exiting vehicle . Broken off, I h Ave had many passengers almost fall and 3 that did fall . People that fell but I was there to help them from falling to ground yet received scrapes and bruises were my wife , my mom and elderly woman.

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph and attempting a turn when a portion of the cup holder fractured and caused the contact's drink to fall to the floor while the contact was driving. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to see if the cup holder piece could be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

Door lock will only open from inside.

My 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 w/5. 7 hemi has stalled on me twice for no apparent reason. For some reason, I had a hard time getting it to start prior to it stalling on both occassions.

Warped rotors at 9,000 and the front end jumps all over the road making it very dangerous to steer, the dealer resurfaced rotors and then at 13,000 miles it is happening again. We have complain several times about this and got no wear. Now that our warranty is up I guess we get stuck replacing the rotors after paying 35,000. 00 for our Dodge, we are looking for a smaller SUV also and will probably not buy another Dodge, Chrysler,product again. Never had this problem with our tahoe @ over 60,000 miles. I think this is unfair to consumers! please help investagate this matter. P. S. I seen a adv. For Dodge 2500 and it said largest brakes in class that is a joke!.

I originally reported this accident to NHTSA website and I'm not able to find the complaint because the website has change. The accident happened in cusseta, GA, the truck made a loud noise on the left side an hour before started spinning out of control, and it did it again before the accident. The truck was deemed total and the mechanic from the wreckage company said the axle broke. I reported this to Dodge/Chrysler and they sent an investigator to check the truck and he said to me "I was lucky to be alive" Dodge/Chrysler never game me no information at all, I was actually brush aside like nothing. Please help me find the original complaint I submitted.
