general problems of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 - part 1

I have three recalls on my 2005 Dodge ram - driver air bag, passenger air bag and rear axle pinion nut. I called the Dodge dealer in my city and was told the Dodge dealer cannot work on vehicles over [xxx] years old even if it is for a recall. On Feb. 20, 2023 my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 was worked to have a repair for the airbag recall. I spoke with someone at jt's Dodge to set up the appointment prior to 2-20-23 and was never verbally informed that there was a posed risk of my dash being cracked and so I set up the appointment. I tried to update my information but the young lady on the other end refused to update it stating I've been there before in the past. My two listed phone numbers are correct (over 10 years) and my address reflected was not updated to my new home address. On the day of Feb. 20, 2023 I sent my son-in-law to take my truck to have the recalled air bag repaired, which he did. He reports being told in a non urgent, very vague manner that there's a possibility of the dash cracking and per the service manager "it doesn't happen very often but we have to tell you". My son-in-law signed the paperwork to have the airbag repaired. I was gravely ill and unable to take it myself or I would have. He signed the form; the service manager took photos showing there was not any cracks prior to the work being done and other photos showing a crack after the work had been done. I was never contacted at either working phone number listed on file. When I finally reached someone several days later they showed no concern. I now have an 8. 5 inch crack in my dash putting myself and passengers at safty risk. Potential risks: my airbag is not properly pressurized, a delay with or the airbag not deploying at all if involved in a mvc/mva, possibility of the airbag deploying without being involved in a mvc/mva and over time the crack could become larger/longer allowing dirt particles to get into the crack causing electrical problems or a malfunctioning airbag sensor. Which places myself and passengers in great danger at any moment. Apparently this is a known (uncared about) issue as reported by Dodge who has discontinued the dash saying it is "obsolete", refusing to offer repairs or replacement, resolution.

I was driving about 45-50 mph and pushed on my breaks. When I pushed on my breaks, I had no power steering and was unable to accelerate. No warning lights. I pulled over and restarted the vehicle and it was fine. Was just purchased used and driving home from dealer.

18v160000 recall. . Also, the entire bottom of frame is rusted out. . Its parked inside of garage. No repair shop can fix it. . They stated due to rusted frame belt on gas tank is off and gas tank will fall. . They told me to junk my vehicle. This is my transportation to work. I've had it towed to shops every one said Dodge makes rusted vehicles and dont care. . . Due to rust now right front tire turnt in. . I dont know if that's bearings or tirerod. I just want my vehicle to run. . Can you please help please. .

I was driving on a highway when all of a sudden I heard what I thought to be a blow out (tire) ,as I pulled over on shoulder with difficulty I looked in mirror and saw a part has fallen off, later retrieved with tow truck driver, part being a driveshaft. Rear end had seized as I maneuvered my veh. As far on shoulder as possible, I feel fortunate for outcome of incident. I had gotten a tow to my resident now not sure what my next step is to do, any advise would be helpful. Thank you.

Cylinder #4 push rod is bent and messed up cam and valves as a result new motor is needed. This vehicle was recalled for this problem and was never brought in. I purchased the vehicle less than two years ago with no recollection of this and now I'm out a truck with no motor due to this.

Sunroof explode today 6/12/2019 while driving on the highway.

I recently had a investigator inspect my vehicle that broke the right rear axle. Chrysler got back to me and claimed the break was not from there recall. Chrysler avoided my whole complaint of defective material. I was not relying on recalls but the material is not right. I had a couple of professional welders look at the axle and was informed that the break was on a weld, which should have been the strongest point and that the material looks porous. I have already filed a claim on this matter, which totaled my truck due to the axle breaking.

An electrical fire started under hood of vehicle. No signs of anything being wrong before the fire and vehicle had been parked and sitting in driveway for at least 24 hours before fire was seen and reported to police and fire dept. Nobody was home when this happened.

The truck stalls when slowing for a stop or idling around a corner. That is a safety issue because the steering and brakes are locked up at that point. Whether it's idling in a traffic jam, coming to a stop, or idling around the corner, you will suddenly have no power but everything else is on. Not the engine and it was so smooth that you don't notice until you can't brake or steer. There are hundreds of people with this year make and model that are having the same problem. I understand there was an investigation but it was closed without resolution. Case number ea05018. This is a growing problem and we the people are spending hundreds of dollars to replace parts that are just part of a trouble shooting issue and most of us still have the problem. And it's the same for all of us. Please relook at this problem. If I were the only one I could understand but I am not. We love our trucks but this is a serious problem. Last night I was in a double turn intersection when it shut off. Thankful I was in the outer lane and hit the median and not another car. If you read on car complaints. Com under 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 stalls/shuts down while driving, you will see that this is a serious problem and there are loads of people. They think the repair fixes but it does not and the issue does not happen all the time. It started occasionally but now it's almost daily and multiple times a day. Please please help! this started in 2009 when we bought the truck and has progressively gotten worse. Not sure if previous owner had issue but it may be why it was traded in.

I was told possibly that the exhaust manifold bolts on my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4. 7 cold be on a recall list.

I called my local Dodge dealer about the p77/NHTSA 14v-796 recall notice that I received in the mail to determine if they would be able to assist me. When I talked with an employee there they told me that they did not have the part in for the possible defect and she did not follow up with setting up an appointment to inspect my vehicle to determine if I needed the appropriate work done. She did tell me that the dealership would contact me when the part arrived. It is going on 2 months now and I received no call back from the dealership. I recently received my second notification in the mail regarding the safety recall regarding specific Dodge rams.

My complaint is with the area Dodge dealerships: bergland & bill craft, I emailed and or called both of these dealerships and nether returned my call or email to set up the repair for the recall. I left voicemail and got back an auto reply email. I not sure how many times I am to attempt to set up the appointment. . . The below date of when this happened is only an approximate date. . .

The spare tire hoist can become inoperable, not allowing you to raise nor lower the spare tire. However, over time, the cable begins to slowly lower the spare to which the spare begins to rock back and forth. Eventually, the cable gives way and breaks, allowing the tire to fall off. In my case, I had never been able to raise or lower my spare tire, nor had the Dodge dealership or any alternate places that replace tires. It was almost 9 years when I noticed that the spare tire had lowered and was rocking back and forth, however, the hoist was still inoperable, and the tire had not lowered enough to access the mounting bolts for the hoist nor to cut the cable. Several months ago, I was driving on the highway at 75 mph when I noticed all the cars behind me swerving every which direction. . . . . And then I noticed a tire bouncing on the highway in front of them. I had my suspicion so I immediately pulled over to check on my spare just to find that it and part of my hoist were missing. Luckily, nobody got hurt as rush hour was just under way so the number of cars on the road was slightly less than normal. Throughout the entire time I've owned this truck, I've never been able to use my spare (and I've had a fair share of flats but have luckily been close enough to friends or family that could help). On every instance where I contacted the Dodge dealership about this problem, they merely told me I could pay them to fix it. Why should I pay to fix something that never worked from the moment the vehicle was purchased?.

2005 Dodge Ram 1500. Consumer writes in regards to unsatisfactory customer service at dealership. The consumer was unsuccessful at getting an appointment, to get the recall rectified. He was told to call back in three to four months to see if the part was available. Ultimately, he made an appointment at another dealership, which was further away. The consumer did not reference a specific recall.

Drivers side rear door lock is stuck in the locked position and will not open. Since it's the rear door there is no key hole to unlock the door. Door will not open with remote door opener either.

Being to take of this since June of 2015. Has to do with the recall on pinion nut keep calling dealer ship here in alamogordo never returned my I want to be abel to take care of this at another delear ship. If I can take it to ruidoso or in el paso TX. My email is mascrivner@yahoo. Com.

Vehicle shut off unexpectedly while I was slowing down to a stop.

Received a recall notice for rear axle pinion nut in Jan 2015. Dodge dealerships do not have the parts within 100 mile radius. Received another recall notice July 2015 still no parts available. Are they waiting for severe incidents to occur?.

Wheels make banging noise steering god.

I have a recall and now the rear of truck sounds nocking or catching up. I have numerous time's called all dealers in my area and Chrysler group llc in auburn hills mi 48321. Still with no results, all are saying their no parts anyware, I have this recall at least six months and still no parts.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge ram. The contact received a notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v-796 (rear axle pinion nut). However, the parts needed to do the repairs were not available. The contact believed that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time to performed the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the delay. The contact experienced a failure. The approximate failure mileage was 183,000. Bd.

This is a recall #p77/NHTSA 14v-796 I brought my vehicle to hurley chrsyler, 2173 s. Woodland dr, deland, florida 32720 - phone number 1-386-736-3000. They told me they would call me when the parts came in for the recall. It has been over a month and nothing from them. They were kind of nonchalant about it; like I was bothering them. In March 2015 I received a letter stating that my truck had a recall involving the rear axle. As soon as I received this notice, I stopped driving my truck. My truck is my family's only means of transportation. Since I don't have another vehicle, I have been forced to borrow my parents and siblings vehicles. I even have been forced to take the bus. I feel that this recall should have been resolved already. Is there anything that can be done to help me with this situation? I do not feel comfortable driving my family or myself around in this vehicle. Thank you.

Started 2005 Ram 1500 and went up slight incline (30 degree) over a speed bump on road and traveled approximately 50 feet and the truck would not move. Put on brake to stop going backwards down the incline. Put into reverse still would not move, tried all forward gears 1st, 2nd, drive still would not move. Went onto internet to search for any similar complaints and found that other owners had found the transmission filter becoming loose caused their problem. We changed the 2 filters in transmission and replaced 8 quarts of atf4+ fluid. The engine light came on when started, but truck did move after it warmed up several minutes. Engine light went out after a few start ups and trips, seems to work alright at present time.

I heard an unusual noise, kind of a rattle and vibrating sound. It continued to get louder for about an 8th of a mile. I began to move toward the right lane of traffic to exit the main road. The noise became extremely loud and there was a grinding sound. Almost immediately there was a loud crashing thud occurred and the truck jarred to an immediate stop. After looking underneath I saw that the whole drive shaft was disconnected from the rear and fluid was spilling on the ground. The tow driver said he'd not seen anything like this happen. Our mechanic came by our place took a look at it and told us about the problem with the rear of this make and model. The pinion nut fell off or vibrated loose. We couldn't understand what could possibly have happened, then it all made sense when we found the recall and investigation information.

I was at the stop sign on the braga bridge in MA. I started to enter traffic when there was a loud bang and then a bunch of banging, I instantly stopped on the bridge just past the stop sign. I put the truck in park and shut off the engine, I jumped out of the truck but it began to roll back. I had my wife hold the break while I checked. The truck would roll backwards but not forwards. The drive shaft was lying on the ground. We had to wait for a tow truck to move the truck. A flat bed showed up and could not get the truck to roll forward. He then continued to upset me by dragging the truck onto the flat bed as it was the only way to move it.

We have contacted the dealership and have been told that they do not have the parts to fix our truck. It has been 4 months since the the recall was issued and we are still waiting for parts to arrive. We are afraid to drive our truck because according to the recall letter an accident could result in a death because of defective parts. We continue to contact the dealership , crown Dodge of fayetteville, nc and continue to be told the parts are not in. We have a 6 hour trip planned in the near future and need this truck to be road worthy.

It felt like the wheels locked down, and the rear end began to fishtail, causing uncontrollable swerving, resulting in the vehicle veering off of the road and rolling multiple times. Driver was my son.

Driving home at a speed of 40 mph and the pinion nut malfunctioned by backing away causing the drive shaft to detach from the rear differential. This resulted in having to have the truck towed to bellaire auto in houston, TX where they did the temporary repairs however the rear differential is still showing significant signs of damage.

Just exited freeway when heard a low sounding whining from the rear of the vehicle when decelerating. Shortly after further travel at approx 35 mph a loud bang occurred and rear wheels locked up causing a long tire skid where vehicle came to a stop. The driveshaft was on the ground separated from the differential. This is the second occurrence of the exact same problem that occurred in August 2009. At that time, the vehicle was repaired at a Chrysler Jeep dealership.

The rear differential locked up. That usually means the gears inside broke or a pin etc broke. Came across an article saying alot of Dodge ram owners have experienced the same thing. There was no indication that anything was wrong. I baby my truck, never beat on it etc because it's a limited numbered daytona series truck.

This has happened several times. I will be driving the vehicle, and the rpms will drop too low (even when giving the truck gas) and suddenly the vehicle will stall. This has happened going 60 mph on the highway, during turns, and also when coming to a stop. The vehicle does restart immediately, though when I am driving I have to put it in neutral to restart it. I have almost been in accidents due to this issue. I had the fuel intake cleaned thinking that might be the issue.

I was driving my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 at 30 mph when I just heard a bang and my truck came to a complete holt . I got out of my truck to see what it was and found out that my drive shaft had fallen not for my uv joint but from the rear axel pinion nut. I did some research and found out that my year make and model vehicle is common but is not a recall. But there is a recall on the 2009 thru 2012 for the same exact thing. I also found that there are several other vehicles with the same year, make, and model that had the same incident.

On August 5 and 6th the vehicle lost power while I was operating it with my children inside in the middle of traffic. I researched the problem and found that there are many complaints online. I called a dealership and was told that there is soon to be one if not yet. I am very much afraid for my family being that this is the only vehicle I own and is a single parent and need my vehicle. I also called the Chrysler corporate office and was told that there is nothing that they can do for me unless they had more complaints in there database. I mention what the dealership said and what I researched online. I think that this is a very serious complaint and someone need to move quickly.
