2008 Ram 1500 4 door p/up truck. Factory radio/ . Noise coming from cd player when radio was playing . Saturday morning , radio off . Radio screen lights up like the inside of a bread toaster . Orange lines appear on the screen. And get hot to the touch . Looks like melting wires . I pulled over and disconnected the battery negative . Looked for a radio fuse in the fuse panel . But was unsuccessful . There was a burning smell coming from the radio or dashboard still hot to the touch after unsuccessfully locating a radio fuse anywhere . I reconnect the battery negative and noticed the same problem is occurring and then disconnected the negative and call for assistance . Please help.
Vehicle caught fire in drive way while raining seems as though the ac blower resistor caught fire.
Timp failure.
After I refuel, whether it's 10 gal. Or top it off, the truck will stall everytime as I drive just the first several miles(maybe as soon as 100 yards or up to 10-12 miles or so). It only happens when I come to a stop, like at a red light or at low speed making a turn. It always starts back up, not always easily though. Of course when this happens, power brakes and power steering is lost. This has put me in a couple of dangerous situations while making a turn and suddenly lose power steering. After it's stalled several (4-5) times, it seems to recover until I refuel again and we start all over. This is definitely a major safety issue and a recall needs to happen to finally fix this recurring problem that has been happening for some time now. I purchased this vehicle new and didn't have a problem for the first 40,000 or so miles. It now has 65,000 miles and this problem re-occurs with every single refuel.
About 40% of the time when locking/unlocking the vehicle (either from the door control switch or the remote), the locking motor cycles over and over again. I've taken it to a couple of Dodge dealerships service departments and have been told they can't duplicate the problem even though a technician was standing right there when it happened. I was told this could potentially overheat and catch fire! this started happening within the first year of purchasing the vehicle new.
My truck caught on fire in engine area , engulfed back to the box whole truck destroyed! inspector not know what caused fire. Truck was totaled. Stationary for two hours at work.
This vehicle has given me many problems and most recently very dangerous ones. A few months ago on my way to work around 4am the drive shaft broke off and flew out at 75 mph. Luckily there wasn't much traffic during that time and the back part of the drive shaft is the one that broke off not the front so the truck didn't flip over. The truck has been repaired since then. Now a few days ago my pregnant wife was driving the truck and it turned off on her in the middle of an intersection while I was working out of town. On my return I found the electric throttle control light on at the dashboard. In doing some research I found that this is typically in relation to a bad fuel pump relay. I found this to be more than common on many Dodge vehicles and obviously a very dangerous problem to have. The fuel pump relay on my vehicle seems to be integrated into the tipm and not serviceable. There also seems to not be a recall for this problem. It now appears I am being forced to spend $1200 on a manufacturer defect. This vehicle has gone from being my daily commuter to a huge liability because I am not sure what will happen next.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving at an unknown speed, the four wheel drive stopped working independently and the four wheel drive warning indicator illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,860.
My truck has randomly been malfuctioning for almost 2 years, while driving the posted speeds 45-75mph the tuck has stalled out causing me to lose all power with my infant daughter I have run into a ditched, nearly escaped other passenger collisons I have had the interior lights and dash lights shut off while driving at night time on non-lit roads forcing me off the road thankfully no imjuries have occuried, it is all due to a faulty tipm that Dodge refuses to acknowledge and wont file a recall your company claims that there is no safety defect to warrant a recall from the tipm, but how many people will have to die families and children for Dodge to fix the issue, it is a huge safety issue I wont put my child back in the truck and I wont drive it by myself, its almost impossible to to steer my vehicle when I lose all power without warning doing 65mph hours on a freeway, it is by the grace of god I am still alive and havent been seriously injured and im not willing to keep taking the risks.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the heat failed to transfer from the front dashboard area, floor area, and the defroster failed to function properly. The vehicle was not yet inspected and diagnosed by a mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the tipm system malfunctioned, and was disabled, causing the vehicle instrument cluster to illuminate and flash intermittently. The vehicle was diagnosed as needing to have the tipm replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 25,000. Ad.
The truck has less than 30,000 miles and needs a new tipm per Dodge dealership diagnostics. Every light on the dash will flash and the gauges become disabled. Sometimes it is continuous sometimes it's only for a few seconds. The cargo lights will come on in the middle of the night and will drain the battery. The gauge lights come on when sitting in park, while driving and even when the truck hasn't been in use. Random electrical functions will blink.
In September 2015 my truck engine shut off on I-20 w after a hard brake at highway speed while approaching a trailer with a wide load on a bridge overpass. I was the lead vehicle and had the left lane momentarily blocked until I could restart the engine. After shifting to park, it took two attempts to restart the engine. Then, in December 2015 the exact same thing happened in the city after a moderate stop at a red light, again holding up traffic until the engine was restarted. After traveling about one tenth mile the engine quit again as I was approaching a red light. The first instance was a hard break situation to prevent an accident but the second two shutdowns happened with light breaking when approaching a red light. When the engine had to be restarted, it required a couple of attempts before it would engage and then ran rough for a short time before smoothing out. Each instance was while I was driving in a straight line. The first time at highway speed of 70mph and the last two at 30 or 40 city mph. I have not had a problem with this since the last time but I have been extremely careful to lightly apply the brakes when possible. I read on the internet that I am not the only one that has had this problem so that prompted me to file this report. I feel the problem is associated with a engine electronic control of some sort or other. The engine is the veriable 5. 7l hemi. My wife has been so upset with this happening, she refuses to ride in my truck anymore. I have not reported this problem, mostly because I have been in the market for a new truck. But, I don't want to trade until I find out if this problem is subject to a recall. This all happened after I had my truck serviced for the air bag recall.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving 20 mph, the turn signals, brakes, and tails lights failed. In addition, the contact stated that the wheel hubs failed causing the vehicle to shake. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the body control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10e040000 (wheels). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.
The key easily disengages from the "run" position and cuts off the engine, causing loss of steering and control. This can even occur if the key is accidentally bumped by your knee. This is identical to the reported affects of the NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000. My 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 is not listed in that notice. This is a very dangerous issue, and doing an internet search there are other owners that have reported the same issue.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving various speeds on uneven roadways and train tracks, the vehicle would stall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000. Updated 7/21/cn.
I just purchased this vehicle and within a week the key wouldn't go into the ignition and once in wouldn't come back out. The vehicle shuts off randomly locking the power steering and brakes. My right turn signal now doesn't go off and when I try to put it off my self the left turn signal activates! this went on back and forth a good eight times before both shut off. My front headlights (mostly right but cannot really see the left while driving) the lights shakes and bounces when I go over anything uneven. Upon coming to a sudden stop the truck pulled hard to the right causing me to swerve into the grass. This vehicle just doesn't drive right. The whole front end seems loose. I cannot drive over 50 or the rear end comes off the ground when I brake to make my turn. I'm taking it to the dealer this evening. My dealer 30 day warranty expires tomorrow. The 3 year 36000 manufacturer warranty is up since three years are gone - although the vehicle only has 31864 miles now. I cannot afford to make repairs while still financed. I'm a single mother of four and always have my four year old in the truck. It's to the point I no longer trust driving this truck.
Truck has had multiple incidents of stalling and shutting off with no advance warning or notice. I come to a stop or turn and the engine shuts off. Power steering is lost and even though it starts right back up when put on neutral it has started to worry me to the point where I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle for fear this may happen on the highway. I've had throttle work done and wires replaced but it continues to do the same thing and no codes appear as to what may be causing this problem. The dealer also cannot tell me the reason why this is happening.
Visible from the floor and vents. The contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and exit. Fire was visible from the front driver side wheel area. No injures reported. A police/fire report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 158,000. Jb.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle at various speeds, after refueling the vehicle would stall. The contact stated that the failure only occurred after refueling, and only when the fuel tank was filled. The contact stated that the fuel tank vent valve failed, which caused fuel to enter the vapor canister under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Ah.
Multifunction switch is malfunctioning, left turn signal activates right signal. Wipers only work when right turn signal activated.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact received a notification for NHTSA campaign id number: 14v373000 (electrical system) and stated that the part needed was unavailable to perform the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while activating the left turn signal, the right turn signal activated. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 41,000.
During the 5yr inspection was told the lt wheel hub assembly needed replaced due to bearings worn with appx 50000 miles electrical/engine; when driving going over rough surface, bump or rxr tracks the jarring can cause the truck to loose power shutting down all pwr steering and brakes this has happened on muti occasions. When trying to duplicate unable to cause shutdown.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving at approximately 35 to 40 mph, when the vehicle veered left or right, the steering wheel was difficult to turn and the rpm level decreased. The engine felt as if it would seize. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the Dodge dealer and was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
Driving at a speed of 45 mph the truck--2008 Dodge Ram 1500 5. 7 hemi-- died. I had no power steering. I was able to shift into neutral and stop. Very thankful I was on a country lane and not on a freeway because there was no warning and I could have been in a horrible accident. The check gauges light icon was flashing as I tried to re-start it. It would crank but not start. After waiting for 15 minutes it did start up again. The engine icon light was showing and it said that an oil change was needed. The oil change wasn't due yet for another 1000 miles, or, two weeks on my three month schedule. I get the oil changed every three months. It tried to stall from then on as I accelerated from a stop, on my way to to the dealer. The diagnostic showed a code for the egr valve, which was replaced. This was fixed four days ago and so far so good, but am very anxious when I drive now, worrying that it might happen again, especially after seeing so many posts online with others experiencing the same problem with their Dodge ram trucks. This truck has 35,300 miles on it. This truck was serviced six weeks before this incident with: a 16 cylinder hemi tune-up; a throttle body service, fuel induction flush and fuel system treatment; transmission service with filter change; machined front and rear rotors; and tire rotation.
When the wipers were turned on then off they "park" straight up. When it was brought to the dealer's attention they said the recall was already done in 2009 and they would charge to fix the wiper control module. They also charged to diagnose.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle, the rear passenger side power window switch caught on fire. The fire department was called and was able to extinguish the fire. The origin of the fire was declared to be the electrical switch. A fire report was filed. The vehicle was driven to the dealer who advised that they would contact the manufacturer to get approval for the repairs. The dealer was still waiting on the approval to proceed with repairs. The failure mileage was 39,000.
My 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 truck is having issues with the turn signals. My turn signals work 25% of the time and 50% of the time they do work, they activate the opposite side (wrong side) I am trying to select. I have visited many internet sites that discuss this problem, and I have found that this issue is a major safety problem that will lead to accidents. I feel this turn signal problem should lead to a Chrysler recall as it is a design defect.
Back in approximately October of 2010 my daughter (18 years old) was driving my 2008 Ram 1500 pickup , when making a right turn the engine shut off. She was able to put it in neutral and restart the vehicle and proceed on her way . This happened a few more times until she told me about it . I noticed she had a small purse type device that holds her license, credit cards & change attached to the key fob. I believe the weight of this purse caused the purse to shut the ignition off. I instructed her not to put anything on the key fob and the problem has not reoccured. You may want to see if there are the same complaints by other ram owners and have Chrysler send a mailer out not to have anything attached to their key fobs.
2008 Dodge ran 1500. We were leaving from a parking lot. Turned on vehicle and it revved to high rpms. Tires peeled rubber, had foot on break. Had to shut off to get it to stop. Had it checked at dealership and they found nothing. This was very scary and something was indeed wrong. We are again driving this vehicle as it is the only one we have and we sure hope this does not happen again.
When driving the truck gives no warning everything just shuts off and I loose all power. I can't steer the car or break very easy. This has happened to me now twice. It is very scary and my dealer who sold me the truck brand new said he has heard of this with the model I bought.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving 35 mph, the contact turned on the left signal; however, the right signal came on instead. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired when the complaint was filed. The contact wanted NHTSA to intervene as a third party mechanic. The VIN was unavailable. The current and failure mileages were approximately 22,000.
While driving, gas pedal went to floor. Rpm's 5000. Warning light ( electronic throttle control ) came on and remained on for the mile it took to get my truck to be back under control in order to stop. While in neutral, and in park, the tires continued to spin and rpm's remained constant. No correction was done by Chrysler/jupiter Dodge Mazda/ as per Chrysler they would be admitting liability because they cannot prove that this happened. I have driven the vehicle for the 2nd time today. It has not happened again although I am afraid if it did, there may be consequences that were unlike the first time. I was instructed by my owners manuel and the dealer service dept to have the truck towed through roadside assistance. The truck was towed to dealer on indiantown road in jupiter, florida. Thank you.
Lately I have been having problem starting my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. The vehicle lights up like it's going to start, then when I turn the key over there's nothing. I have continued trying to crank the vehicle numerous times and after 10-20 min of waiting the vehicle starts like nothing was wrong. This has happened numerous times in the past. I wish I never bought this truck now .
