4 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2017

While driving on the parkway I suddenly lost control of the steering. Thankfully I was able to safely maneuver the truck to the side of the road, with the help of a good samaritan and my evasive maneuver course required by my job, before anything tragic happened. I had the truck towed to the dealer where they confirmed my suspicion of a broken tie rod, specifically the left tie rod which has been recalled on every 2008 ram except my 1500. I find this very suspect that all the other rams have been recalled and fixed except my model, yet I had to pay for the repair. I am grateful that I did not get hurt, or cause an accident and injure anyone else, however this issue needs to be looked in further by the government. All of these trucks are unsafe to drive until they are fixed. According to my normal mechanic, this can happen at anytime due to the defective tie rod. He has replaced many 1500 tie rods at the expense of the owners, this should not be. Please order ram to issue a recall on all the 2008 ram trucks to keep the public safe. Thank you.

Experiencing early failure of drivers side and passenger side tie rods. (drivers side is worse) was informed at approx. 48,000 miles they needed to be replaced very soon. After some research online found this is a known issue with this make and model and no recall has been issued. I believe these should have been included in the buy out recently announced.

7 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

Dodge ram 2008 quad cab 1500 series. At the time I called into Dodge I had roughly 60 thousand miles on my truck. I contacted Dodge in 2014 and they told me although that was the model and series that was part of a recall that my particular VIN was not eligible for a recall . The problems I had endured were swaying of the truck almost to the extent where the tire felt like it was wobbling and the truck shaking when I excellerated over 50 mphs . It was at that time when I took a road trip for memorial day weekend 2014 when this started getting progressively worse and I pretty much had to drive 40 miles an hour the i75 freeway because the car felt like it was going to flip over when I was excellerating. It was right there after that I contacted Dodge to make a complaint and they told me although I had the year and make of the ram but my particular VIN was not eligible for any recall. So there after I had to replace my tie rods and the sway bar at my own expense and also replace my tires not too long after that which were new from the dealer when I bought it used in 2011. My biggest fear was the vehicle that was the safest of the 2 my family owns was now a risk to my children,my spouse and I. I also had fellow vacationers in the vehicle with me which witnessed the vehicle shaking obsessively when we were accelerating.

12 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

My complaint regards the unreasonable length of time it is taking Chrysler to resolve recall n49. This is a tie rod issue. Pretty important, considering the ball stud could fracture and cause the loss of steering while customers are on the road. As instructed by the notice, I called our local dealer January 6, 2014 to schedule an appointment. I was told to call back the following week. I did so promptly and was told I would be put on a list for repair. I was #130 and parts were expected to be shipped by Chrysler just once every two weeks. I called again April 30. I am now #120. I'm told that, even if the parts were coming in at a faster pace, the dealership is not adequately staffed. It appears to me that this safety issue - one that can, and probably will, result in loss of lives -- is not an urgent matter to Chrysler. If it were, it would be sending the replacement parts to the dealers in a timely manner and footing the bill to temporarily staff the dealership to get this resolved.

13 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Mechanic showed me that tie rod ends are loose and must be replaced. Several Ram 1500s have had a recall on tie rods but a call to Chrysler recall office turns up negative for my truck. I propose that 2008 should be included in Ram 1500 recalls too. The rod has worn out at low mileage.

16 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

We were driving our Dodge Ram 1500 mega cab (51,000 miles) on interstate 25 just south of douglass wyoming. We were going approximately 77 miles per hour and in an instant I lost all control of the steering and we ended up off the side of the road after a very frightening experience. I bought this truck just over a year ago from a dealer outside denver, CO. When the tow driver arrived, he immediately told me that my tie rod probably broke as my right front tire went completely sideways and was now rendered useless. He mentioned that we were very lucky as most times he sees these types of things, the truck rolls over. He also mentioned there was a recall on these tie rods. We had it towed to a dealer in douglass and are waiting to hear what they have to say on Monday. I ran my VIN# on Dodge's web site to see if its a recall, but its telling me that my truck doesn't have any on it. Candidly, after talking to mechanics locally, they said a tie rod should never bust like that and with so little miles on the truck. To say this is dangerous is clearly an understatement. This type of "defect" is going to kill people as it almost did us. I sure hope Dodge does the right thing with our truck. I have had nothing but issues with this truck since the day we took it off the lot. Within a month, the transmission went out and once again, Dodge said it wasn't their fault - 40,000 miles and a transmission goes out? after fighting with them for another month, they did repair and pay for the fix. . .

There is a safety recall on certain Dodge ram tie rods (recall #l16) but for some reason my VIN was not included in this recall. Sure enough the tie rod was near failing and I had it replaced before a catastrophic failure could occur. 27 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2011

Both left and right tie rods failed at 3 years old and 4 years old and we replaced them out of pocket. All 4 O2 sensors failed at 5 years old but dealer failed to diagnose this correctly while the truck was still under warranty and we had to replace these and the pcm, which burnt out because of the defective O2 sensors, after the truck was not under warranty any more. The airbags are defective and Chrysler does not have the parts to fix it and we can't sell the vehicle as it is. Chrysler states it is not part of the buyback and now we are stuck with an unsafe vehicle that we can't sell.

28 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2011

Steering became very loose and uneven tire wear at 35,900. The truck felt like the front end was going to fall off and was wandering and bouncing. I took the truck into the dealer (royal Dodge owego, NY) for evaluation in the summer of 2011 and was told the left tie rod end was defective and the truck was out of warranty. I obtained a quote of approximately $200 to replace the left front tie rod end and do an alignment. I ended up replacing the tie rod end myself ($50) and having the truck lined up ($80) at moore's tire sales in owego, NY. Upon evaluation of the defective tie rod, I noticed there wasn't any grease from the factory on the tie rod ball once I cut the boot open. I also ended up having to replace the tires due to the uneven tire wear. I am aware of the recalls on this truck but I have the extended cab version and the recall is only for the mega cab version???? I think the recall should also include the extended cab version also. Is there any recourse for fiat Chrysler to reimburse me for the expense? I also just had to replace the right outer tie rod for the same condition at 58,000 miles.
