Three problems related to other fuel system tank assembly have been reported for the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. While the vehicle was parked in the garage, the odor of fuel was present. Upon inspection, the contact noticed a hole in the fuel tank, which caused fuel to leak out. The contact indicated that the hole had been blown out of the tank and was the size of a tennis ball. The vehicle had been parked in the garage for months and had not been driven. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 206,000.
I recently purchased a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 laramie 4wd. Upon purchasing it, I went to the gas station to fill it with fuel in order to drive it home. With the fuel nozzle locked into the auto-fill position, as the tank neared full and shut the nozzle off due to pressurization, fuel shot out of the filler spot of the truck at least one foot. Fuel spilled on the ground, down the side of the truck, and on my shoes. This has occured every time I fill the truck up at every gas station, and I have filled up in three different states. Everytime the pump shuts off due to pressure, it's like the tank burps and shoots fuel out the filler spout of the truck at least one foot in the air, down the side of the truck, and all over the ground. I have been extremely lucky no to have been standing in front of the spout when the tank shuts off. This is an extreme fire hazard! I have read many forums about people complaining about this very issue, and the fix is to replace the entire fuel tank because there is a check valve in the fuel tank that has failed. This should be a recall!.
Tl - the contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while refueling, the fuel tank would leak around the fuel filler hose. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who advised the contact that the fuel tank would need replacing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to pay for 50% of the part costs but not the labor costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage was 103,000. Kmj.
