The truck will just shut off driving down the road at highway speeds. This has occurred multiple times.
On my way home. Going through in town (slow)traffic all of sudden I notice I had no power steering & no brakes, no please pull out , I noticed if I keep my rpm about 1500, I would get a little power steering & brakes back!, 4 miles to get home , I drove home slowly what happened was I lost my serpentine belt tensioner!!! . My main purpose, for my truck is to toe my fifth wheel RV!!, I live in the north west of us, like! in the mountains!! terrified that it won’t happen again!????.
Front frame bracket on gas tank has rotted out. There is a recall on this already for other 2012 Ram 1500 vehicles. Nhtsa 18v-160 frame bracket.
Bracket for fuel tank straps broke, causing gas tank to fall during operation without any warning,it could of caused a fire or explosion causing harm to driver and others or death. My local service center confirmed the problem and repaired the bracket and secured the gas tank back into place with new straps. This happened on our about [xxx] about [xxx]. Friday (rush hour)!! I was at walmart when I saw the problem returning to my truck. I went to the auto service center to buy some cargo straps to secure the gas tank back into place so it was safe to drive, the service manager was shocked! thank god that I saw the problem and secured the gas tank!!! I was a mechanic and service manager earlier in life. I called a local ram dealer ganley in bedford ohio and found out that this problem had a extended warranty on it that expired 4 or 5 days ago. [xxx]. I never received any information of this from the dealer I bought it from or the manufacturer, I could of been killed and others due to the neglect of the dealer and manufacturer, buyers of columbus, ohio and fiat, Chrysler ! why didn't NHTSA make sure I was warned of this? it was a life threatening problem! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My 2012 Dodge ram shuts off or stalls for no apparent reason. Sometimes upon starting, while going down the freeway (at freeway speeds), as well as speeds in between, this has happened with my family in the vehicle and even when we are towing our stock trailer with animals inside. This is very scary for all of us and dangerous for all those on the round around us. While we have not been involved in any accidents, its just a matter of time. There is never any warning when this happens and it not only shuts off it looses power to everything. So times it catches its self and restarts, other times we have to manually restart the engine.
The contact owns a 2012 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the radio was hacked. The safety features became inoperable and the vehicle attempted to crash. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 15v461000 (equipment). The manufacturer was notified, but no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
Shifter slips out of gear unexpectedly at times (eg. Drive to neutral) while driving and without cause. Unable to place it in park at times as well. We attempted to fix the problem, but a necessary part (gearshift cable) is discontinued and cannot be located anywhere. The truck is not safe and cannot pass a safety inspection and cannot be repaired.
Exhausted manifold on driver side making loud noise, totally defective component.
The engine cooling has a bad design for the exhaust manifolds so 2 bolts on each side broke off in the engine block and now there is large exhaust leaks on both sides of the engine. This is the most common defect I have seen by talking to people and on any forum and am very surprised this isn't a recall already.
On July 8, 2014 my 2012 Ram 1500 caught fire while parked in my driveway at home. The vehicle was last operated on the evening of July 7, 2014. At approximately noon on July 8, 2014 while working on my computer inside my house I detected the odor of burning plastic. I assume it was initially originating from inside my house. After investigating I walked outside and found that the interior of my truck was on fire. I put out the fire and immediately called the local fire department who responded to ensure that the fire was completely out. I immediately contacted my insurance company in addition to the local dealer, jeff d'amborsio auto group, I spoke with the service manager who in turn contacted his regional manager for guidance. I received a letter date July 10, 2014 from the Chrysler customer claims resolution group advising they were in the process of reviewing my file. I was contacted by the resolution group and advised the file was being turned over to a group, isg, for further investigation in resolution. Chrysler arranged to have the vehicle towed on July 12, 2014 to the jeff d' ambrosio dealership where a representative from Chrysler was to inspect the vehicle. That inspection took place on Tuesday, July 15th. The origin of the fire according to the insurance company fire investigator originated in the passenger side door panel and resulted in total damages of $23,000 which the insurance company deemed a total loss. My insurance company settled a claim by paying off the loan balance of $19,500 and submitted a check to me for the excess to cover the value of the vehicle. Unfortunately I am not provided results of the investigation performed at the dealership by the representative from Chrysler. The case number assigned by Chrysler 25283630. As of today, August 13 I have no resolution directly from Chrysler.
I had the oil changed, about 9 days earlier and I was in a drive thru when all of the sudden the engine started knocking horribly loud sounded like a diesel. It happened on a Saturday night so I got ot home , I called rhe dealership and they told me to drive it in , I told the service guy the engine was going to blow up he said ok but get it as far as u can. My friend followed me. They told me their computer read miss dire in cylinder1 and wrong engine type oil for the engine. They put the wrong oil in my new truck and lied to me about the process. Now the engine has never been even close to as gopd as it was. . 2 now the trasmission is getting bad it doesnt shift right at all p. S. That was the second time they screwed up the engine. I thought I was buying a reliable vehicle!!! now what do I do my truck has barely 11000 miles on it!!!!!!!help.
Sometimes when vehicle comes to a complete stop it feels as though it is being rear ended even though no one is behind it.
I purchase a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500. I have been noticing a problem with a vibration and a rubbing sound when the vehicle is under 40 mph. I have taken back to the dealer 2 or 3 times and they first said the tire on the passenger side was cuping and separating and was not covered under warranty. I took the vehicle to a goodyear dealer (the tires are goodyear). They didn't find any problem with the tires and rotate the tires. All four tires are worn in middle tread. So, I know something is not right. I took the vehicle back. The service manager said that they couldn't find anything wrong with the truck. He did say that because it had a hemi th that's what some of the trucks did and that there was one complain with the same problem and that person traded the truck in. Now I know that that is not true about the hemi's. . . I don't feel safe in these vehicle and the store manager will not return my calls. I have paid a lot for this truck and don't feel like im receiving the proper customer care. I don't feel comfortable driving this vehicle but it's my only transportation to and from work. I had to call the Dodge customer sevice dept to have them call and talk to them for them to make another appointment to check the truck again because they would not return my calls.
Brakes mushy, go all way to floor, need to be pumped before each stop. Bad cold start engine noise could make engine stop working according to Chrysler repair bulletin. Chrysler refused to repair either defect - brake light flashes and stays on much longer due to pumping and need for constant pedal action. According to on-line search the above defects are common in Dodge rams - Chrysler refusing to repair - claims "brakes working normally" - please advise what to do. Thanks douglas g. Reiman.
