I own a 2014 Ram 1500 and my power steering went out. I could not turn the steering wheel at all. There was no warning or error message. I looked on line and saw that there were a number of complaints for the same issue for the same year, make and model. There was a recall for some vehicles but my truck was not part of the recall. I paid over $3600 at the dealership to fix the problem. I contacted mopar and was told that my VIN was not part of the recall and that they could not reimburse me.
Today is July 10, 2015. The vehicle is 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab pickup purchase new. On the steering wheel where the horn and airbag are located the seam cracked or separated starting just below the letter "s" stamped on it for srs airbags and if you are sitting in the drivers seat and looking at the wheel the crack or separation continues from that point and runs straight to the right and up to the end of the cover for the srs airbag in the steering wheel. When the horn is pressed the casing which is cracked or separated scratches you or your fingers get stuck or caught inside the opening. The dealer stated that because the mileage is over the 3 year 36000 mile warranty it would not be covered. However, if we agreed to have additional maintenance done today unrelated to the free oil change they would cover the cost to repair the defect. Please note the dealer confirmed it was a manufactured defect. I contacted Chrysler and filed a complaint with them.
Backing out of parking spot when driver side lower control arm shattered. Wheel was unable to support the weight of the truck or any steering movements without causing further damage to the suspension or truck body. Cause was a defect in the aluminum molding.
