general problems of the 2014 Dodge Ram 1500

15 problems related to power train have been reported for the 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2015

The ram ecodiesel 3. 0l truck had a check engine light that came on while driving, showing a p20ee error, requiring the replacement of the diesel exhaust selective catalytic reduction (scr) at under 27,000mi the dealership I dealt with was great in getting it fixed, but I am concerned the new exhaust scr that was installed won't last the life of the vehicle if the first one only lasted a little over 26,000mi unless they made a change and/or updated the part that was installed on my truck. I'm hoping the replaced part was updated by ram and the cause of this error corrected, but I have not been given this information at this time.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2015

After pulling into my drive way with my adult son in the passenger seat I was rolling up to the garage with my foot on the brake pedal slowing down the truck. I stopped the truck completely, by pushing on the brake pedal harder, about 5 feet from the house. I reached down to rotate the shift dial to park, "p". After turning to "p" the truck engine started revving and the truck lurched forward, after initially being startled I looked down and saw the shift dial was at "p" and the engine was still revving. The truck then struck the corner of the house while I was almost standing up on the brake pedal trying to get it to stop. I turned the shift dial to reverse and back to park and the truck stopped revving and moving. Then I backed away from the house. Being a retired police detective the first thing I did was to check to see if the factory floor mat had dislodged and jammed into the pedals but it was properly hooked in place. After getting the trucks body damage repaired I had it towed to the dealer but they could find nothing wrong with the truck. I did notice that when I picked the truck up from the dealer there was a clicking sound under the dash when I rotated the shift dial from "r" to "p" that I do not recall hearing before. No clicking is heard when changing between any other gears.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

Part came loose in rear end destroying carrier and pinion bearings and clutch plates. This happened at a low speed so more damage was not done.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2014

December 16, 2014 check engine light came on. I took it to dealer and they said it was O2 sensor. They reset it and told me to blow 3. 0 diesel engine out. Check engine light came back on as well as a message that def fluid was wrong. I called dealer and they said bring it back in. Dealer called me back and said I needed new catalytic converter but it was on back order and they couldn't give me a date. Dealer told me truck was ok to drive. December 24, 2014 a warning message came up on truck that said truck would cut off in 190 miles and would not re start. Dealer now has truck and still can't give me a date on when it will be fixed. They did tell me that there were 82 other trucks in the system like mine. There is an issue with the 3. 0 ecodiesel engine and Chrysler has no fix or won't tell anyone what is happening.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

On the afore mentioned date, I was operating vehicle on a 2 lane highway. When I attempted to pass a slower vehicle the transmission froze/locked into a lower gear, not allowing me to complete the pass of the other vehicle and there by forcing me to brake heavily to avoid a head on collision. I then returned the truck to the dealer whom I had just purchased from. As of this writing' they have neither found or corrected this issue.

A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2014

I have a 2014 6cyl Dodge Ram 1500. I have found a few problems. First when I unlock the truck the dash lights and display screen flickers. Secondly I was driving through the park going down a hill and the truck didn't down like it should it was running 2500rpm when it should have been around 1500rpm. Lastly I took my family on a fishing trip and on the highway at 75mph I felt a stand vibration in the gas pedal and starting wheel. Also I am very concerned just how long the gear knob is going to work. I'd feel much safer and sure about the truck if they had a normal gear shifter.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 53 mph, the vehicle jerked and the contact noticed that the front inner fender had become detached from the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the fog lights failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2014

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that there was hesitation when changing gears from park to reverse or drive. The contact had to change multiple gears to get the transmission to switch over from park to drive or reverse. The reverse sensor and the drive sensor light illuminated sporadically. The contact was able to use the gear shifter knob to ensure that the vehicle was in the correct gear. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired but the part needed to make the repair was on back order. The vehicle was to be inspected and repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2100.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

On or about March 6 2014 when the truck sits over night or after about 5 hours when the motor and trans are cold , I notice a hesitation going from reverse to forward, this is a hesitation that is about 2-5 seconds, it seems that the motor is not getting enough air it seems like it wants to idle down. When this idle down it goes from the hesitation then like a idle air issue. With the hesitation from a low idle to idle that makes it go then I have to give this gas or try to since its a lot of electrical know. I am not sure. I live on a busy road and this is a issue that can affect my safety. I should not have to worry if it will go into drive. At this time this is a issue, I want to know when I put this into drive, it goes like it should this is a brand new truck.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2014

Truck was parked, we exited the truck, I was getting bags out of the back seat and a friend was getting his tool box out of the bed and when he leaned in the truck began to roll. It rolled 15 feet and stopped when it hit a snow bank. I got in the truck and verified it was in park.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

When truck is down shifting from 2nd to 1st the truck slams into first and makes a clunkimg sound. Dealership flashed the computers and I have driven 2300 miles with the problem remaining.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

There is a continuous unknown electrical draw causing the battery to drain to the point the vehicle will not start. An electrical surge will cause the electric suspension to activate along with the console cluster after the vehicle has been turned off. The vehicle has been back to the dealership 6 times and neither the dealership or Chrysler has a fix. The condition is getting worse and now there is a new issue affecting the electrical clutches in the transmission. I have requested a loaner vehicle until I can purchase a different vehicle I feel is safer. On April 3, 2014, the district Chrysler representative denied the request. I believe this vehicle is unsafe for multiple possible reasons but especially concerned about he alternator. The alternator's function is to recharge the battery once it's been used to start the engine. And to keep the battery charged when various electrical systems are used in the vehicle. The alternator determines how much to charge the battery by measuring the reference voltage from the battery. If there's a problem with the battery where the reference voltage is very low, the alternator will try to recharge the battery. The alternator isn't designed to recharge a dead battery. It's intended to maintain the charge on a good battery. When this does happen, the alternator begins to run hot, and this is what kills the alternator. A dead battery while driving means no electric steering, no antilock brakes, no air bags, ect. I'm very concerned about the safety of this vehicle.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

The new ram trucks use a dial like shifter that Chrysler is calling the "rotary shifter" in which the driver uses to select the transmission position from park or drive. The system is causing safety issues in confusing drivers thinking that they are looking for the windshield wipers, van speed control, or even thinking that the vehicle is in park when actually in drive. With our incident the driver thought the vehicle was shifted into park however it was in drive. The driver started to get out of the vehicle when it started moving forward causing a collision to another vehicle within our garage lodging the drivers head in the top portion of the door and leg in the lower causing injury not to mention damage to each vehicle involved. The damage combined to for both vehicles is well over $2,000 for a minor collision and also two separate collision claims on our auto policy. Chrysler is calling it a diver error after reporting it to them under claim #24280455. We feel and after talking with others in the public in just this short amount of time that it is a safety issue as others in our area are having the same issue however no one was injured or in a collision from others that we have talked with thus far.
