Driving on the road, going about 40 miles an hour, the hood to my ram has flown open. This is the 2nd time this has happened. I thought the first time was my fault but lightning doesn't strike twice. I spent over $1000 the first time to get it repaired.

On January 28 2011, I purchased a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 from honest ziggy's. There were little things that needed to be done, but that was okay with us. Then in February of 2011 I was going down the road and my driver's door came open. Come to find out we had to spend $400. 00 on getting the driver's door fixed. We called ziggy's to let them know and they said that we bought it "as is". I thought before they put a vehicle up for sale they have to make sure that it is safe to be on the road. We had to replace the door hinges on the driver's side because they were so old and when the door would shut it was not lining up properly. It was like that for a long time because it started to crack. We had to go to a body shop to get it fixed. They had to cut out at least quarter of the door and replace it. Ziggy's said that it was our problem and that they were not going to do anything. Ziggy told us that there was nothing wrong with it and that we caused the door to be like that. And when we confronted him about it he said that he did not know that there was anything wrong with it and he said that he mechanic looked at it also and said that there was nothing wrong with it. We need to find out what rights we have to make sure that this does not happen to anyone else. We took it for a test drive and noticed that the transmission was slipping and we told ziggy about it and he said that there was nothing wrong. We would like to know what can be done about this. We just don't have the money to dish out to fix this truck that he said was safe and to be working properly. We also want to know if there should have been at least a 30 day warranty with an "as is" vehicle. The vehicle is under my wife. She got it for me to back and forth to the doctors so we don't have to put much mileage on the other vehicle we have.

I own a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. On this model as well as many other models the secondary hood latch was recalled for failing to work. Now my truck had been serviced but one day my hood flew open with such force it sprung both of the spring hinges, ripped the corners of my hood and bent them (now starting to rust), cracked my windshield and at one point I could not get the hood to latch shut so I now tie it down with twine. I was only doing about 25-30, just leaving a driveway. My daughter was scared (?@#^@ as was I) and when I called the Dodge company everyone was nice except the insurance rep he really took the cake. He blamed me for the accident saying it was not the secondary hood latches fault but the primary and that I did not properly maintain it. I never got the chance to ask him what the (blank) do I pay for the Dodge dealership to keep my vehicle maintained, which I never knew you had to maintain a hood latch? even so the secondary latch was the issue that never held even if the primary latch failed. I talked to my dealership and they were stunned at this, they said it was obvious the secondary hood latch failed and once recalled always recalled. I went as far as saying they did not have to do the $2500. 00 worth of repairs (estimated by the Dodge dealership) I just wanted the latch to work so I don't have to worry about it doing it again and to fix the springs so I do not have to be a body builder to open and shut my hood and to bend back the metal and touch up the paint so it don't rust. (its an older truck but doesn't have to look like crap or be a safety issue. I am really ticked off at Dodge and wanted to alert you to my situation. How many others had this happen and got the same response? I may even go to a news station and plead my case there, that guy for Dodge really ticked my off. Thank you for listening.
We were driving approximately 45 mph when the hood suddenly flew up and smashed into the windshield. We were able to maneuver the truck to the shoulder without there being an accident. The hood was bent and had to be replaced, hood mounts had to be straightened. A new hood latch was installed as the mechanic said this was the problem that it was stuck open, and in his opinion, defective.
Mechanisims that hold all four doors open in the half and full position on my 2010 Dodge ram crew cab truck do not hold door secure enough to prevent accidental unwanted closing of door which in turn strikes person while entering/exiting vehicle. While serious injury has not occurred yet, it's only a matter of time before it does. I am especially concerned for hand, finger, or head type injuries with children and even adults not aware of this condition when entering or exiting my vehicle. Even though I am very aware of this situation I could also get hit by a door unexpectedly. My dealer feels, and I agree, problem does not appear to be result of defective manufacturing or improper installation but rather improperly designed parts. Replacement of affected parts in like kind would only result in same problem. Re-designed parts such as stronger compression spring and/or increased depth of scallops in holding bars are necessary to more firmly hold doors on their detent until occupant desires to close door with his or her hand.

I closed the door on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 to go around the truck to get me grand daughter out of the other side rear door. While walking around the truck the doors locked on there own and kept locking as I tried to open the door with a key. All while my grand daughter was locked in the truck. I finally timed the key turn and was able to unlock and get my grand daughter. I didn't happen for about 2 weeks, but it just happened\ again. This is not safe and didn't know if it has happened to anyone else.
I was driving about 35mph, when the hood of my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 popped open. It bent the corners of the hood, I was able to push the hood down, with the help of 2 other guys. If I would have been driving faster, I believe it would have smashed my windshield. It has only happened once, but I am scared that it's going to happen again. We haven't looked into fixing it, because we just don't have the money. We are hoping to at least get it looked at this spring, unless it happens again.
Heater door broken and made defrosting very slow. This appears to be a constant problem on Dodge trucks etc.

I bought a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 yesterday 12/26/08 as a christmas present for myself and as I was driving home later that day at 10:30 pm and the hood of the truck all of a sudden came up and hit the windshield, causing me to hit the brakes at come to a stop on a busy road.
¿on may 26, 2003 I took my pickup to denoyer Dodge 2242 central Ave, schenectady, new york and had them handle the recall situation. ¿ on December 4, 2008 traveling south on interstate 87 the hood flew up smashed the windshield. The grill work flew off the hood and landed in the bed of the truck. ¿ I called 911 and the new york state police arrived and filed a report. I had the truck towed. ¿ on December 5, 2008 I called Dodge customer service at 1-800-992-1997 and spoke to rhys. I was told to take the truck to a local dealer who would determine the cause of the hood latch disengaging. She suggested I could call langon Chrysler Jeep or goldstein Chrysler. She also informed me that if it was the latch that they would be responsible and I would also be given a loaner vehicle to drive. She gave me a reference number of 18144145 I called langon and spoke to mike. He informed me that they didnt have a body shop. He also told me I needed to call a different 800 number to report the problem. He gave me 1-800-283-5882 I called the 1-800-283-5882 which the recorded number gave me 1-800-856-5545 which I called. Spoke to dave which told me I was speaking to Chrysler and he transferred me back to austin at the original 800 number (1-800-922-1997) austin asked me for my reference number (18144145) and he repeated what I had already been told by rhys. He said that if this accident was caused by the recalled latch that Dodge would be responsible and I would get a loaner car. I than called goldstein Chrysler I spoke to morgan and repeated the whole story. Morgan told me basically the same thing I had been told by the other Chrysler dealer. He said they would inspect the truck and see if anyone had left the hood open. Feeling like I am getting the run around I called lisa at scatub my insurance company. I was told to call kemper insurance to start the paperwork. The had the adjuster call me and she suggested they have the truck towed to metro for.
