Cpsc#i1270494a. 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. Consumer stated as he was driving, the tire pressure sensor light came on, and within a few seconds his front driver side tire was completely flat. The consumer stated after removing the tire, he took it to a repair shop and was told it was common with his make/model. Apparently, the nut on the outside of the rim, that secured the valve stem and sensor to the wheel was prone to corrosion. When it was corroded enough, the valve stem loosened into the tire allowing all of the air to escape, allowing the tire to go flat.

While driving 65 mph on the creek turnpike the vehicle, 1999 Dodge ram 4wd, began to shake when suddenly the left rear wheel disengaged from the vehicle and rolled 150 yards down the road. The vehicle brake system was severely damaged upon impact with the pavement. Potential catastrophe was avoided. The exact same incident happened to my son with his 1997 Dodge ram.
Nothing leading up to event either incident, with the exception of seconds before tire separated from vehicle because bolts were sheared off, there was a slight vibration. First incident in 1999, bolts sheared off front passenger side while traveling at about 25 mph, no significant damage to truck, repaired and had no further problems until 2005 when traveling 65 mph bolts again sheared off front passenger side tire, again vibrations about a minute before tire separated from vehicle. This time there was significant damage, fortunately no injuries were sustained to those in vehicle or others. Currently truck is in for repair, again using certified Chrysler parts, and they are new and installed correctly. Will need autobody repair this time due to other damage sustained to vehicle. New tires were put on correctly about 4000 miles ago with no problems to this point either.

Right front wheel came off truck while going down freeway. There was a slight vibration in the front end about 10 seconds before the wheel came off. The lug bolts were all sheared. There is no apparent wear on the wheel or rim. We went off the road and luckily I was able to keep the vehicle from rolling. Had this been another mile down the road, we would have met a rock wall and suffered serious injury to passengers.

Traveling on I-81 approx. 65mph, in passing lane heard noise in front end, moved to the right lane, noise sort of subsided then became very loud and hard to control steering, started to apply the brakes and signaled to get off the highway then a very loud boom , double slam , tire and wheel flew and rolled forward off the road. Notified by a relative the next day that a lug was found intact outside in-laws residence.
In April of 2001, the lugs: nuts of front/passenger side wheel sheared off and the wheel fell off. I was going 5 mph pulling into a gas station at the time, but 30 seconds before the incident I was going 55 mph on a highway.
Lug nuts keep coming loose, have had dealership and several reputable repair shops attempt to fix the problem, I have replaced over 15 studs due to loosing lug nuts frequently, they loosen up as soon as 3 weeks after having vehicle serviced, recently, I was driving on an interstate when my front tire came off, luckily I had made it to the shoulder and caused minimum damage to vehicle- documents from tow truck/ repair shop will verify this happened and also verify that upon checking each tire for same problem, driver side rear lug nuts were only hand tight, the rear axle was just serviced 3 weeks ago- no coincidence- I was out of town when this happened, this has been going on for 6 months, so there is no question that this is vandalism/ or practical joke.
