Dashboard Crack problems of the 2000 Dodge Ram 2500

Dash cracked and shattered to pieces, with no reason apparent reason and/or without operator's control. Part of it happened when I was driving.

I cleaned the dust off the dash board and noticed a crack forming from one of the vents, on the passenger side, at the windshield moving toward the interior. Today, 4/20/2012, I noticed another crack, on the driver's side, coming from the vent up over the top. It is 10-12" long already. I did an internet search and it seems that there are many others with the same problem. It appears that once this starts, the entire dash begins to self-destruct. This is very dangerous as pieces can go flying in the event of an accident and air-bag deployment.

I own a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 sport. The dash is cracked and falling apart. The plastic is sharp and sometimes the small pieces fly out and strike people. It's also distracting because it looks horrible.

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 with the dashboard cracking and large sections falling out. This could create flying shards of sharp plastic should I be in an accident.

Dash top cracked and broke into dozens of pieces falling into dash. The dash top is no longer usable and must be replaced at a cost of over a $1000. The loose parts could cause wiring to be damaged and other parts not to function, defrost vents are not being held in place. The new factory part will be no better after the sun and heat get to it! Dodge need to be responsible an replace the part with a better part!.

Dash has cracked and piece fallen out. Since the dash holds the passenger airbag a cracked dash could cause the airbag to not function properly in an accident. The cracked dash is a big problem in the Dodge pickups from 1998. The dealers won't do anything about it since there has not been a safety recall issued.

Dash cracked and dash bezel cracked in 2000 Dodge ram 1500. Replacing new dash bezel however there is only a dash cover for these trucks. Dodge does not cover expense for a new one. The pieces can become dislodged from the dash and cause injury.

Dashboard cracked and now has fallen apart. Now there is a 6"x6" hole in the middle of my dashboard.

I have major dashboard cracking on 2000 Dodge ram truck. Vehicle has not been involved in an accident, it appears that the material used in the dashboard is defective. It is my opinion that if I was in a serious accident, large shards of the dashboard could come loose and cause a serious injury.

I am the owner of a 2000 model Dodge Ram 2500. The truck is an extra vehicle that is seldom used with only 43,000 miles and is very well taken care of. Two years ago the dash began cracking just in front of the driver. I was concerned, but thought it was just sun damage to my specific vehicle. Within only months the problem had grown and there were many other cracks from end to end on the dash. A local body shop looked at the problem and gave me an estimate of nearly $1000 to replace the dash. Still assuming this was an isolated problem with only my vehicle, I decided to purchase a dash cover to hide the unsightly cracks and possibly protect it from further damage in lieu of the expensive dash replacement. The dash cover did hide the cracks, but did nothing slow down the continual cracking. After speaking to others with similar problems and reading numerous accounts on the internet, I am now concerned about safety issues related to electrical system problems, air bag deployment as well as flying projectiles in the event of a crash. I filed a complaint with daimler-Chrysler, which stated knowledge of the problem only to be told the vehicle is out of warranty and the district manager had declined any assistance to remedy the problem. Thanks for any help to rectify this issue.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that the dashboard was severely cracked which caused sharp edges of the dashboard to be exposed. The failure had been on going for four years. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure and he was advised that the dashboard needed replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 96,000.

Cracked and collapsed dashboard. I believe the passenger airbag is in jeopardy of a false trigger and/or deployment, potentially causing bodily harm or injury. Or worse, it may not deploy at all should an accident occur. Absolute no support from the manufacturer.

I purchased new in 2000 a Dodge Ram 2500 sport extended cab and two years ago the dashboard began cracking, at this point pieces of the dash have fallen through leaving holes in the dash. I tried to get the dealership in concord, nh to fix it when it was under warranty but they refused. It appears that this is not a limited defect as I've found thousands of complaints on the internet from similar year owners.

The dash is badly cracked, from the heating duct in several directions including over the speedometer and toward the passenger side. A piece has fallen in. It appears more will, too. I understand from others with this problem the whole dash will eventually fall in and that Dodge takes no responsibility for what appears to be a very common manufacturing defect in this make of truck. The cracking is not crazed as would be expected from uv damage. This is an ongoing problem that has slowly worsened over the course of several years.

Cracked dashboard on a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500. The dashboard on our Dodge ram has been cracked and falling in on the electrical components under the board. It is very ugly and so far we have not had any electrical problems but I am afraid to take any trips fearing being stranded because of the dashboard parts falling into the hole.

Started truck up and commenced to travel to my destination. During that trip there was a loud snap and the dash pad developed a crack which has since turned into many cracks with a piece of the pad falling down inside the dash. Also the instrument bezel has since broke on the top edge where one of the pad cracks is. When I showed it to the service dept. At a local dealer right after the initial crack they said there was nothing that could be done because it was off warranty. The main cracks seem to have started at screw mounting holes. I have also had small pieces of plastic fly out of the defrost holes at times with some hitting me in the face. This issue should be a recall especially since mine started at around 24 to 25 k miles and I only have approx. 76k on it now. Also this has been a major problem with a whole lot of people. Also the seat cushions are junk. I had mine replaced under warranty and within 60 days the base support was right back where it was and I was told they couldn't replace them again.

Dashboard cracked all along passenger side as well as drivers side. The crack is so bad, its going to cave in. Please help us to get this fixed. This Dodge is the 3rd vehicle we have purchased from blackburn motor vicksburg,ms.

My 2000 Dodge ram dash started to crack in 2003 and now has cracked so bad that chunks are popping off of it driving down the road.

The 2000 Dodge ram dashboard began to crack when truck was two years old. The dealership reported that it was not under warranty, and tried to fix it by himself. After a couple of years the crack grew and eventually large pieces of the dashboard broke off. It has not been repaired.
