Was in my Dodge truck in a parking lot. Started vehicle and pulled forward about 6 feet and felt like I had run over a bottle or can. I stopped the truck, put the truck in park and looked at the indicator to make sure it was in park. With the engine running I began to exit the vehicle and after 1 foot was on the ground the horn started to blow and the vehicle went into reverse. It traveled backwards for about 8 feet before I could enter the vehicle and engage the brake. As it was going in reverse, the door hit a concrete pillar used to support parking lot lights and bent the door forward considerably past the point of normal opening. The door will have to be replaced along with some additional body work.

Therefore, the original safety hazard still exists. The consumer assumed the dealer was going to adjust the shift linkage, but he soon discovered, they had done nothing to the shifter.

11 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2006

Dodge refuses to fix a problem for which there is a service bulletin #2101605 I have been three times to get something done. The dealer says I am not covered by the bulletin, but that I do have the problem. The dealer called Dodge and they will not approve the repair. They say it is okay to have a 4 to 10 second delay in the transmission being operable when shifted into gear. The engines revs up and the truck rolls, until it finally catches into gear. I have 24,000 miles on my 2005 Ram 2500. I told them (on the third visit July 18) that I became aware of the issue being known about after some one told me it was a common problem. Dodge said they were unaware of it up until I provided proof otherwise. I need my vehicle fixed. My problem is getting worse. What good is my warranty when they will not fix a significant defect?.

12 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2006

Vehicle type : 2005 Dodge 2500 diesel automatic transmission. Truck was recalled for a problem with transmission not going into park. The fix was to install an alarm that sounds the horn when the truck is in reverse, driver's door is open and the foot brake is released. This is the condition a truck driver would use when hooking up to a boat, utility trailer or a RV. This is not a fix for the real problem but generates more problems by making it very hard to look to the rear out of the door when backing up to make a hookup with out the horn sounding. It is causes a problem in camps sites and boat ramps where backing up and needing to look out the door for safety.

Also, when the vehicle is in park and the vehicle is exited, when it is put into reverse and the door is closed the alarm will sound until the vehicle is put back into the park position. Updated 06/12/06.

: the contact stated while using the tow haul button, the button engaged into the wrong gear. This was especially hard to maneuver when declining and towing a trailer. 16 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2006

2005 Dodge ram with diesel and automatic transmission. Received a recall notice March 28, 2006 that will add alarm function if driver door is opened, engine running and vehicle not in park. This is not a fix to a problem reported by others that the vehicle will inadvertently shift into reverse with the shifter indicating "park". If there is a problem with the shifter mechanism, it must be fixed. Many drivers backup the last foot or two with drivers door open when connecting truck to a trailer. The proposed fix in the recall makes the vehicle less usable. I would not have purchased this new truck if I had been aware of the "rube goldberg" bandaid patch rather than fixing the shifter problem. I would encourage NHTSA to disapprove the current recall and demand that the problem be solved with a functional shifter mechanism. I consider the fix proposed by the recall to be totally unacceptable and refuse to have it incorporated on my truck because it makes connecting to a trailer more difficult and time consuming. I have not had a problem with my truck but now always set the parking brake when getting out of the truck because of uncertainty of the shifter.

17 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2006

My 2500 Dodge ram diesel 2005 has a factory recall for not going all the way into park although seems as though it is in park. I have no means of getting my vehicle to the dealership for repair of this defect. I have noticed this problem with my vehicle before receiving the recall letter in the mail.

19 Automatic Transmission problem

(1)I put the shift selector in 'park' got out of my truck, opened the tail gate started to unload cargo (2) the transmission shifted into reverse and the truck tried to run over me (3) I got out of the way and stopped the truck. It has happened many times since then but since I expect and anticipate the incident it is without consequence.

20 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2005

I purchased a 2005 Ram 2500 in July. I had a similar problem with mine jumping from park to reverse. No people were hurt, but it destroyed the entire side of my pickup. When it jumped from park to reverse the truck went across the street and hit another truck. This issue happened a few time before, but I was in the truck these times. I think Dodge has a serious problem to take care of before someone gets killed. Now my truck has been in the body shop longer than I got to drive it. Hope Dodge is going to take care of all of us. An independent investigator has looked at my truck and Chrysler is supposed to contact me with the results of his investigation.
