2 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2016

Two years ago, while driving at low speed on a city street, the right tie-rod ball joint broke and the tie rod dropped and wedged into the right front tire. Brought me to an abrupt stop and swerved the truck into the curb. At the time, I was not aware of a recall. I fixed it. Since then, the front transmission blew up. I replaced the whole front end. The right tie-rod broke on the new front end. I fixed it again. The other day, the right wheel bearing seized and the brakes failed. I was travelling at 65 mph towing a flatbed trailer. Bringing it to a stop provided me with some maalox moments. I've had enough and am getting rid of this truck before it kills me.

4 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2015

Driving down the road at 65 mph pulling and the right tie rod came apart and we headed into oncoming traffic. We were able to pull over without an accident. The Dodge dealer told us that the left tie rod in trucks of our same year and model were under recall, but not ours. We had to repair it on our own. The left tie rod is now bad on ours but lucky we were told about it during a tire rotation. Dodge says that our truck isn't covered even though the same year and model trucks are.

5 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2014

Recall notice n62/NHTSA 13v-528 left tie rod end may break while driving causing lose of steering and may result in accident??wow now you would think Dodge would make this a priority to get fixed?? so I have emailed Dodge several times about getting this fixed always same answer do not have parts, been to local dealer doing the same, got the same answer no parts to fix vehicle??? well lucky it broke on my street turning truck around to back in my driveway, steering linkage pushed into my left tire 6" so side wall belts are now broke but it was also causing my new tires to wear out faster on front of truck even after alignments done, so after a year my truck is still not fixed and is sitting at hall Jeep/ Dodge and no fix for it due to no parts available. So no I am less my truck and need to borrow a vehicle just to got to work, I find this a huge problem not only should I have a rental vehicle that matches my vehicle but want two new front tire now also why cant they get the parts I can order all parts needed right now online or go pickup locally and get my truck repaired but getting my money back for repairs will be a huge issue because after market parts?? really be better parts in my eyes being I would get heavy duty parts for replacement parts so no more front end issue's I am done with Dodge and trying to get a truck fixed that should have been done months ago with no hassle period!! OH and to top it all off the dealer gives me number to Dodge roadside assistance to tow my truck to dealer less than a 1/4 mile form my house they want to charge me $73. 00 for the tow?? um your recall issue and your tow problem I am not paying a dime being you cant get parts to fix my truck and when its now broke and has no steering Dodge want me to pay for a tow bill ya ok good luck on that too. . . Really wish could up load pictures its a site to see linkage stuck in my tire. . . .

2007 Dodge Ram 2500 - while driving approximately 50 mph the truck wheels go into what is referred to as the "death wobble" as it's described as both front tires are bouncing up and down like a basketball. The driver has very limited steering control while this is happening resulting in a serious automotive accident. There was a recall on tie-rods but the dealership did not replace the defective tie-rods. I took the truck to a local garage specializing in front wheel alignments and tie rods. This is extremely dangous and Dodge should be held responsible and liable for this defective design and part.

13 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

There was a safety recall on my Dodge pickup - safety recall number n62 / NHTSA 13v-528. The recall notice was for a left tie rod and issued in January 2014. Reported calls to multiple Dodge dealerships have not been productive since they all repeatedly state that they do not have the parts for the repair. My truck's front end now shakes and makes a loud noise as well as the steering wanders and is not safe. I have no alternative but to take the truck to a private shop to get the truck fixed as it is a severe safety hazard and is unsafe to drive and I need to use the vehicle as it is my only mode of transportation. They stated that they will not reimburse me for the work and were not amenable to travel a few miles to drive the vehicle to experience the issues, for which they still don't have parts to fix. Calls to dealerships and to Dodge have not proved fruitful; they don't care about consumer safety or inconveniences. I want to be repaid for the work that is to be performed to make the vehicle safe again.

16 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

I bought an extra clean 07 2500 4/4 megacab 6. 7 in June of this year. Had upper and lower moog ball joints, tie rod ends and rods where needed, plus new damper at 169k mi. Put a set of new shocks on the other day, truck is factory height, but has 285s instead of 265s. Just today it went into a death wobble on a wet concrete interstate after hitting a very small pot hole on left. I was runnin about 70 and damn near lost it. Luckily there was nothing on shoulder cause I couldn't keep it in my lane. Thank god my wife or daughters weren't driving! help!! I dread testing it again after someone claims to have fixed it,since it took 6 mos. To show up and only seems to happen at dangerously high speeds. 17 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

In 2007 I purchased a new Dodge ram big horn 4x4 cummings diesel. I pull a 2-horse bumper pull trailer about 12 times a yr,haul a few things in bed, truck has light use. Being a career mechanic I am particular about maintenance, truck is garaged,1/2015 only has 38,000 mi. Took to dealership in 2013 for tie rod end recall, told me all was ok, no parts needed. During a 300 mi. Round trip pulling trailer/horses 10/13,I noticed some wandering, upon return took to dealership for check and tire rotation which was also due. Immediately noticed wandering was worse going home, took back again, they rotated tires again(probably back how they were),added wheel weight, still wandering, tired taking in with no results. New tires oct 2013,ruled out tire problem as cause. Noticed wander more with trailer. For peace of mind took back 1 more time before horse trip oct. 2014,told all ok even thou still wandering. Started weaving also during trip, felt uncomfortable about stability there and back. A few wks ago taking to dealership for oil change/weaving check, while on local paved road truck pulled sharply to right, pass. Mirror smashed into sign,$530 bill. Lucky I kept truck on road!right away took to front end shop, didn't feel confident with dealership. They found front end parts worn, needed replacement, tie rod ends, track bar bushings, drag link and ball joints!on a 38,000 mile well maintained truck that didn't haul or pull heavy loads!ridiculous!search found thousands of complaints for this issue, many people put in dangerous life threatening situations, people may have died from this failure. Main cause seems the engine is too heavy for weak inferior parts with poor design. Dodge takes no responsibility and ignores issue while consumers pay millions in repairs and unknowingly risk their lives. Dodge needs to recall these dangerous vehicles!fixes are there but should not be at consumers expense!.

20 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2013

On March 12 we were returning from skiing, driving down the highway at 60 mph when the left front tie rod broke on our 2007 Ram 2500. My husband was able to slow the truck down and pull off to the side of the road. We had the truck towed to the mechanic where the left front tie rod was replaced, as well as the upper and lower ball joints. When Dodge had the recall on this part we took the truck in and were told that the recall was only on the replacement parts that had been put on for the broken tie rod and that they would not reimburse us for the cost of fixing the original tie rod that broke. The Dodge dealership supposedly changed out the replacement tie rod. My concern with the recall if the original tie rod wasn't defective Dodge wouldn't be replacing so many replacements. Why were we not reimbursed for the original equipment that was obviously defective?.

21 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2013

I have been notified of the recall on the left tie rod end (n62 / NHTSA 13v-528). I spoke with my local dealer on 01/13/14 and was put on the list for repair. The dealership stated that I was number 35 on the list and they were completing 1 recall every 7-8 days due to lack of parts. Now I am told this recall has been put on hold and will not resume until 6/14. This delay for a recall is alarming. 'the left tie ball stud on you truck may fracture under certain driving conditions. This could cause loss of directional control and/or crash without warning. ' the tie rod end on my truck has fractured once all ready less than 1 year ago. Fortunately there was not a wreck or injury due to the loss of the ability to steer the vehicle. I am now having to replace another steering component linkage on the same truck that is not affected by the recall and the mechanic is having problems locating parts to complete the repair. Again if this tie ball stud would fracture it would result in loss of steering control.

22 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

I believe that my truck should be covered under Chrysler safety recall no. L16 when driving approximately 60 miles per hour or more, my truck has a vibration in the front end. I have taken it to different shops and have replaced the wheel hub and had the tires rotated and balanced. This has not solved the problem. Yesterday when I took the truck in to get an alignment done, the shop owner told me that they did not want to align it because there was a problem with the tie rod end. He did some research and found that under Chrysler safety recall no. L16, it states "model year 2003-2008 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 vehicles may have received the affected tie rod assembly as a replacement part during normal service". I believe that my truck falls under this category. I asked a local Chrysler dealership to run the VIN number for my truck to see if it was covered under Chrysler safety recall no. L16. They said no, it was not. I believe that considering the circumstances that my truck should be covered under this recall. Please advise.

30 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

I purchased a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 in December 2010 from royal gate Dodge in ellisville, mo. The vehicle had a "death wobble" and the sales rep. Recommended changing the linkage to the updated version that was available. They gave it to me free as long as I installed it on the truck. I did at approx. 73,000 miles. Now, 13 months later and 27,000 miles on the replaced linkage, my left outer tie rod sheared off while turning a corning at around 15mph. Since I took the linkage and installed it myself, it only has a 12 month warranty. If they installed it, would have been covered. As sad as their business practices are, I am writing regarding your investigation/recall on the 2500/3500 newer trucks with the same issue. I would like to make you aware of the issue that these defective parts can be interchanged on older vehicles, like mine. I have ordered the replacement moog tie rod and will be installing it as soon as it comes in and feel lucky I was at low speeds.

31 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2011

Left tie rod ball stud fractured while making a sharp left hand turn in a parking lot. This item was replaced by Chrysler approximately two years prior under a recall. I towed the truck to autoworld Dodge - petaluma (Chrysler dealership) for repair. They insisted the broken part was out of warranty and was my responsibility to repair. I had no choice but to have them make the repairs at my expense. This failure was a clearly known problem, but they would not stand behind their product. Is there any recourse for their failure to comply with an obviously recalled part (NHTSA campaign id #11v350000, action #pe11009)?.

32 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2011

I purchased a used 2007 Dodge power wagon from a small dealership in may of 2011. I have been a loyale Dodge owner for many years and don't know why. Upon test driving this truck before the purchase I felt a shake in the front end. I spoke with the privious owner who indicated the tires were the issue. I took a chance a bought the truck "as is" with no warranty implied. I have researsed the Dodge "death wobble" because I knew it would just be a matter of time before I experience it. I was right. I knew that replacing parts was not the answer after reading many complaints on the web. Like a dummy, I took it in to a couple different places. I called the dealer and asked if there was a "fix" and they did not know of any. My research took me to a well known heavy duty truck shop. I told him about this issue and he was very convinsing that they could repair it. This tech/owner knew more about this problem then Dodge. Again, I took the chance I spent over $650. 00. He had issued me a TSB from Dodge that stated replacing all 4 tie rods and doing a special allignment would cure it. Nope! since the purchace I have replace all 4 tires, steering dampner shock, all 4 tie rods, and numerious tire ballancing and allignments. I feel like an idiot. I'm doing exactly what I said I would'nt, spend big money for a known saftey issue from Dodge! my complaint is the very known "death wobble". I should have wrote when I went through Dodges transmission problems. I'm a hard working, tax paying, family man who pays his bills and so on. . . Yes, it does boil down to getting personal. Consumers are taking the hit for so many thing. If I were to do something that was right I would do everything I could to make it right. Dodge needs to wake up and realize they have a huge saftey issue that could end many lives! please read/reserch these may complaints and make it right for the people.

35 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

2007 Dodge ram passenger side tie rod end dropped out while driving approx 45 mph on back road. Lost all steering function, as left side is attached to right side. Narrowly avoided collision with several trees and a small bridge. Truck finally stopped in oncoming ditch. Tie rods had been replaced by dealer under warranty approx 30k miles prior. Truck drove normal until this point, but tie rods had started showing wear previously, but not serious enough to cause any alarm. Dealership was unwilling to replace tie rods under warranty for the third time, as it was the last week of said warranty. Replaced parts with heavy duty aftermarket parts at my own expense. Dealership had inspected truck on a previous trip and said truck had "updated" steering linkages and components.
