general problems of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 - part 1

Hit a minor pothole at 70 mph, had sudden "death wobble" and almost lost control of the vehicle. 100, 410 miles on the vehicle, have had minor wobble in the past occasionally. Steering parts replaced at about 37,000 miles due to failures, installed a steering dampener years ago due to the potential problem, also current tires have less than 8,000 miles on them. Clearly a known danger to these vehicles, why no action?.

I was on a on-ramp getting up to hey speed. Hit a little bump where the old and new asphalt join and the rear started to fishtail to the left and started to spin out hot that k-rail then went over it roiling about 30 feet from it. The air bags did not deploy nor did the seat belt lock. It was a bit foggy and the road surface was wet.

Death wobble / as I was coming down on ramp to I-205 after leaving hannah Dodge as speed reached 55 I hit a small bump in pave and truck shook so violently I had to hit brakes as vehicle pulled left then right to shoulder where I came to a stop. This first happened as I reached 164th and hwy. 14 at 64 mph and hit asphalt patch on overpass and was steering to the left lane when truck started shuddering violently and pulling to right as I hit brakes. Luckily on both occasions no traffic was to my right or behind me or I'm sure an accident could have occurred.

The passenger track bar mount and shock mount has fractures in the welds to the axle housing. The shock bracket underneath wear the bottom of the passenger shock bolts in is completely broken and the bottom of the shock is just floating with no stability. This is a factory weld and the 2013-2014s have the same issue but are the only ones with an official recall. It's been reported on many previous years and Chrysler/Dodge will not fix it. I am unable to take a picture of the the shock bolt as it is blocked by the track bar mount, but I did get the track bar mount clearly with the major fractures. There are more on the inner side of the passenger axle housing. This creates a major safety issue if it completely fails.

My 2007 Dodge 2500 truck with a 5. 9 diesel has experienced, what has been widely known as, death wobble. I would describe this as an uncontrollable loss of control when going over a bump or (more especially) an uneven change in the roadway like when going over overpasses or bridges. This is prevalent on the highway at speeds of 60 mph plus. My truck currently only has 70,000 miles and has been impeccably maintained. The entire truck and steering shakes and the only way to stay alive is to brake heavily until it stops, usually at 30 to 40 mph. This is not safe in any way, but especially on the highway. The truck has had this issue for years and happens without warning. I took the truck to my dealership and they said off the record, "sorry, we know it happens, but we have no solution. " death wobble. . . Everyone knows about it. Not gonna fix it. Hhmmmmm.

During highway driving 60mph my truck developed "death wobble" the steering wheel was shaking violently side to side, I was unable to gain control until the truck was below 15mph. This happened several occasions thereafter anywhere from 40-65mph. I took the truck to the dealership, which determined everything was fine as far as recall concerns go, I explained that there was something wrong weather it was recall or not, and I wish to have it fixed. They expressed the truck was fine and refused to look further into it. There was a recall on the front end steering linkage which they also stated was not a problem. The "death wobble" returned on several occasions until from 12-4-17 to about 2-10-2017 when it caused me to leave the road pulling a trailer nearly crashing into a bridge support. After giving up on the dealer I investigated myself and found that the front end traction bar link was bad, this allowed the axle to move side to side. With the steering mounted to the frame, and the axle moving this caused the steering drag link to violently push/pull on the steering causing the potential deadly condition essentially the steering was steering left and right without my control. After replacing the traction bar and front end linkage the truck performed as it should with no further issues, this is a problem that is extremely common among ram owners of 2002-20010 trucks. Driving about 65 mph hit a bump on interstate and truck shook violently and almost hit concrete wall. Had track bar bushings replaced that was supposed to be the fix just to have the same thing happen again two weeks later taking me off the interstate once again. Not sure what to have done next before it kills me or someone else!.

I have been having a problem that is know as (the death wobble ) when driving at 50 miles per hour or higher when hitting a bump in the road the truck vibrates so bad the you have a hard time controlling it. This has been happening since 2014. I have changed numerous parts in the steering to solve this problem to no avail. When will there be a recall on this issue before someone is killed.

The contact mentioned that the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was unable to be diagnosed. "07" mega cab 4x4 has the well known "death wobble" that Chrysler doesn't want to acknowledge. When traveling over 55 and hit bumps, potholes, or bridge joints the condition starts and doesn't stop until slowed to less than 20 mph. This has happened on numerous occasions. Have spent several thousand dollars trying to fix to no avail. Truck only had 52500 miles when this started. I have replaced steering system with "new improved" version, replaced shocks, track bar bushings, steering stabilizer, steering gear box stabilizer, tires. Truck has only been driven 800 miles in the last 2 years due to the problem and only driven that far because when it started I was 500 miles from home. Couple this with the passenger side air bag recall that said do not drive until replaced and it took a year to get parts. To say I am not happy with Chrysler would be an understatement. The "death wobble" is very serious and after thinking I had it fixed it nearly caused a major wreck on a 4 lane interstate while pulling a 26' trailer loaded with atv's, running 65 mph and ran over an expansion joint at a bridge. I cleared all 4 lanes trying to get it under control, everyone was going in all directions to get away from me. Thank god it never caused any damage to anyone's vehicles, only our nerves and underwear. This is way more serious than any emissions scam.

Driving about 70 mph straight on a highway. Hit a small bump in the road. My truck started shaking violently . Had to slow down to keep control of my truck and make a complete stop to stop it from shaking.

Typical very scary death wobble after hitting a bump while making a curve at 60 mph. Has happened more than once.

At speed over 50 on a interstate highway hitting an expansion joint, bumps or uneven pavement while changing a lane on 2 lane state roadway to pass car (no bumps) truck went into violent front end shaking. Created unsafe passing situation while trying to get truck under control. Truck is a diesel with 72,000 well cared for miles. When speaking with a Chrysler ram tough ?? (my a--)truck dealer , they knew nothing about a "death wobble" . Front end replaced except for steering box with front end alignment.

There seems to be a huge problem with Dodge front ends it seems that the buy back is 08 and up and my 07 has the same problem. I have replaced the tie rod ends and the steering linkage(however I didn't get paid because I do not have the reciept anymore)and the problem still occurs I am just wondering why 07 is not part of the buy back?.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. Also, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the gear box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

I received a recall notice in the mail and took my truck to the dealer who preceded to tell me that it did not apply to my truck , so when my 16 year left the dealership 2 days later she was driving down the road and it started shaking uncontrollably and she heard a snap and lost control of the steering and hit a guardrail and wrecked, if not for the guardrail she would have went down a six ft embankment and been injured. She had just driven on the interstate and if she had been on it she probably would have died. I do not appreciate the dealer putting my daughter in this kind of danger, when I contacted them about this they said well, we are only sent 1 every 7 days and they are 30 people in front of you. This excuse is unacceptable and my child could have been killed. I had to pay 933. 00 for repairs and I expect to be reimbursed for these repairs.

Steering quickly became ineffective, braking was diminished due to loss of firm contact between front tires and road surface. Wobble is regenerative in that it continues to get worse until vehicle speed is reduced to 15-20 mph. I was unable to precisely control direction of travel, crossing into oncoming lane before reducing speed enough to regain control. Vehicle shakes so bad as to dislodge items from the dash and console pockets. This event repeated several times at a particular spot on my way to work, where there was an irregularity in the roadway on a straight section of paved two lane road. Behavior was the same as described above. The last even was while pulling a twenty two foot trailer on a major interstate, while negotiating a right hand curve on a down hill merge lane at freeway speed of approximately 60-65 mph. Again I was unable to maintain my lane of travel and a crash would have resulted if any other traffic had been near me! definitely a saftey issue! local dealership assured me a new steering damper would cure the problem. (it didn't) I eventually fixed the problem myself by researching what other owners had done online (there is a lot of info on this issue!), and replacing the pitman arm, drag link, tierod, and adding a steering shaft stiffening brace. The drag link, tierod and tierod ends were a mopar part kit. Much heavier construction than the original part. Response to a known issue? this issue makes the truck nearly un drivable.

I was driving along the interstate around 65mph and hit a small bump in the road and all of a sudden my vehicle started wobbling all over the place. Had my wife and 5 month old baby in the car and finally was able to pull off the side of the road, but while doing that almost sideswiped a few vehicles and semi truck. I believe I was lucky with this. I have heard there is other people who has similar incidents to mine.

I went to the dealer for a state inspection. I was told that the front end steering parts needed to be replaced as it wasn't strong enough for the truck. I asked if it was recalled as it wasn't strong enough. They said no, and the only way they could correct with their parts was replace the whole system. (they would have gotten a part from a outside parts house to replace the one bad part). I believed them and had the whole system replaced for over $1100. It was the replaced system evidently that has been recalled. I have contacted a dealer closer to my winter home for the recall. I have been waiting for over two months for them to contact me that the parts were in. At the original time of me checking I was told the parts probably were not even made yet. Repeated checking is to no avail. I am told they only receive about one part ever two weeks, and they had my info and would call me. The problem could cause a crash! with the winter we have had, and we do plow with this vehicle, it should be a priority. They were contacted January 7th and we are now into March. The time has pasted on when this should be done.

On numerous occasions my truck has went into a violent shaking. Known by many as the "Dodge death wobble". I have spoken with Dodge on this issue at two different dealerships and they are aware of the issue but seem to refuse to fix or recall it. I have seen numerous fixes that my or may not fix the issue but at owners expense. This is ridiculous on a $40,000 vehicle in my opinion. I am truly amazed no one has been injured or killed from this issue.

Driving on the expressway going about 65 mph, as I crossed over the expansion joints on a bridge the truck started shaking violently. It did not quit until I pulled over and stopped. I tried to continue to work and everytime I hit a bump it would shake violently even at 40 mph. If there would have been someone beside me at the time of the occurrence there would have been a serious crash.

While driving on the highway at 66 mph my 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 4wd diesel started to experience the Dodge death wobble. The whole truck started shaking and it was dangerous and hard to control.

We were pulling the horse trailer we hit a pot hole and the truck went into a death wobble . The steering wheel just shook and the tires felt like they were going to come off the whole truck just shook. This was a danger to us and others. For you had to almost come to a stop on the freeway. I have read pages and blogs on this same problems on Dodge trucks . Somebody is going to die before Dodge fixes this problem.

I was driving south on hwy146 in baytown,TX. I struck a small pot hole and thats when the so called death wobble occured, had to brake and avoid striking other vehicles. This is the second time this occured within a week. There needs to be a recall before someone dies.

I purchased a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 in December 2010 from royal gate Dodge in ellisville, mo. The vehicle had a "death wobble" and the sales rep. Recommended changing the linkage to the updated version that was available. They gave it to me free as long as I installed it on the truck. I did at approx. 73,000 miles. Now, 13 months later and 27,000 miles on the replaced linkage, my left outer tie rod sheared off while turning a corning at around 15mph. Since I took the linkage and installed it myself, it only has a 12 month warranty. If they installed it, would have been covered. As sad as their business practices are, I am writing regarding your investigation/recall on the 2500/3500 newer trucks with the same issue. I would like to make you aware of the issue that these defective parts can be interchanged on older vehicles, like mine. I have ordered the replacement moog tie rod and will be installing it as soon as it comes in and feel lucky I was at low speeds.

While driving the vehicle at approximately 50mph, and after hitting a bump/pothole in the roadway, the vehicle began to shake violently, nearly causing a collision. The vehicle is still under extended warranty and was diagnosed by putnam Dodge in burlingame as needing the steering stabilizer replaced. On 1/12/12, I replaced the stabilizer and had the alignment checked, and again the violent shaking occurred at approximately 50 mph. Once the shaking starts it is very difficult to control the vehicle, the only way to get it to stop is to brake dramatically. In one instance, I was on an overpass and narrowly avoided a collision.

While driving down interstate 25 in albuquerque nm I hit an expansion joint in the road and the truck began to shake violently forcing all other drivers on the road around me to scatter to avoid an accident. I immediately began to slow down and the violent shaking did not stop until I reached approx 35-40mph. I was convinced that my wheel was falling off or a major suspension component had failed but after an immediate inspection there was nothing readily identified. After a very brief search of the web it appears this is a coomon problem called the "death wobble" and no one appears to have been able to correct it with repairs. Headed on interstate east down a hill hit a split the in pavement and the front end started to wobble so bad that the truck changed lanes had to put the truck in neutral and coast to the side of the road to avoid other traffic in the other two lanes this could cause death to someone . I have had every part in the front end replaced steering box / upper and lower balljoints /all tierodends/tire balanced new bushings . Everything.

At highway speeds when you hit a bump in the road the front steering of the truck starts a violent shaking commenly known as the death wobble. This does not allow you to steer or control the vehile until you slow down to 30mph. I have been ran off the road several time when this occured, thankfully I did not his another vehicle. Dodge is aware of the faulty design and will sale the redesigned parts to eliminate the issue for about $600. They will not warrenty it unless it is installed by them. If you want you "under warranty" truck repaired to fix their faulty design you will have to pay for parts and labor, about $1500 total. This is a very dangerous problem. I purchased a used 2007 Dodge power wagon from a small dealership in may of 2011. I have been a loyale Dodge owner for many years and don't know why. Upon test driving this truck before the purchase I felt a shake in the front end. I spoke with the privious owner who indicated the tires were the issue. I took a chance a bought the truck "as is" with no warranty implied. I have researsed the Dodge "death wobble" because I knew it would just be a matter of time before I experience it. I was right. I knew that replacing parts was not the answer after reading many complaints on the web. Like a dummy, I took it in to a couple different places. I called the dealer and asked if there was a "fix" and they did not know of any. My research took me to a well known heavy duty truck shop. I told him about this issue and he was very convinsing that they could repair it. This tech/owner knew more about this problem then Dodge. Again, I took the chance I spent over $650. 00. He had issued me a TSB from Dodge that stated replacing all 4 tie rods and doing a special allignment would cure it. Nope! since the purchace I have replace all 4 tires, steering dampner shock, all 4 tie rods, and numerious tire ballancing and allignments. I feel like an idiot. I'm doing exactly what I said I would'nt, spend big money for a known saftey issue from Dodge! my complaint is the very known "death wobble". I should have wrote when I went through Dodges transmission problems. I'm a hard working, tax paying, family man who pays his bills and so on. . . Yes, it does boil down to getting personal. Consumers are taking the hit for so many thing. If I were to do something that was right I would do everything I could to make it right. Dodge needs to wake up and realize they have a huge saftey issue that could end many lives! please read/reserch these may complaints and make it right for the people.

I understand Chrysler has finally admitted to the "death wobble" 2003-2011 problem. My concern is, this has been a problem since the mid 1990 models and now we who own and maintain those models are left out and are still having the problems. It was their problem in the beginning and they refused to correct it. I, at my expense had the problem repaired in 2010 and once again the problem continues people are still driving the older models and are still at risk. A Dodge will last forever if it is taken care of, that in mind Dodge should recall all the 90's models also, it is not right. People can die in accidents involving the older vehicle. Also!!! how many accidents, that may have resulted in death have there been as a result of this problem. How many involved vehicles in the 1990 range before Dodge finally admitted to the problem. All the vehicles with a history of the problem should be recalled.

While towing our 27ft montana fifth wheel, I crossed over a cattle guard and got a very violent vibration in the steering wheel. I had to come to a stop to make quit. I found out from my mechanic it's called the Dodge death wobble. Chrysler corp. Will do nothing about it, even though it happens to thousands of people who drive Dodge trucks.
