34 problems related to steering tie rod assembly have been reported for the 2011 Dodge Ram 2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have now received two notices about the left tie rod. I own two Dodge pick ups and still, 5 months later they cannot get the parts! I appreciate the concern but what good is it if we cannot get the parts to have it fixed! quit spending time on sending out notices and get the parts!.
I have received two safety recalls for this vehicle recall number n49/NHTSA 13v-529. The recall is to replace the left tie rod ball stud on the steering linkage. I received the first recall notice in January 2014. I immediately went to my Dodge dealer to have the work performed. Dodge stated that they would have to order the parts. Six months later I am still waiting for the parts. Today I received the second safety recall notice for the same problem. I called Chrysler recall assistance and was told it would take an additional three to five months before the parts were available. That is unacceptable and extremely dangerous. Chrysler is playing russian roullette with peoples' lives. Chrysler's claim that it takes nine months to a year to obtain the parts is patently false. They have simply intentionally placed a bottleneck in the recall process in order to improve their cash flow. Do people have to die before action is taken?.

The consumer stated after the recall was performed, he noticed the vehicle pulled to the right and the steering wheel was no longer centered. The dealer informed the consumer, the work they performed, had nothing to do with the vehicle pulling. The consumer stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, prior to taking it to the dealer.

January 21, 2014- received recall notice n49. (left tie rod ball stud failure). Contacted a local texas Dodge dealer and was placed on the appointment list, parts ordered. Dealer said that I would be contacted when the part arrived. (seen the recall notice updates that stated it would be April before parts were available). 03/22/14 - was backing out of parking spot and left tie rod ball stud busted, tire twisted sideways. The scary part- just 45-50 miles earlier, same tank of gas, I had been pulling my fifth wheel trailer down the highway in texas. I am shaking thinking about what could have happened on the thruway if it had busted just a few miles earlier or if I had a few miles further to drive!.
Received recall notice n49 from Chrysler (NHTSA 13v-529) approximately March 18, 2014. This is in regard to a steering defect on our 2011 Ram 2500hd turbo diesel truck. According to the recall notice the problem is "the left tie rod ball stud on your truck may fracture under certain driving conditions. This could cause a loss of directional control and/or crash without warning. " this sounds like a serious safety issue to me. So we took it into the nearest Dodge dealer on March 19, 2014. After examining the truck they said it does need the repair, but they have no parts. So they put us on a waiting list and that it would be about 30 days. It is now two months later and we are told that we are still about 30 days out on the waiting list. The recall notice says that if the dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge and within a reasonable time we may file a written complate with the administrator of the national highway traffic safety administration. This is my formal written complaint. My dealer (tempe Dodge) has failed to remedy this defect within a reasonable time. Please use all the authority of the united states government to compel Chrysler corporation to expedite the repair of this dangerous condition! thank you.
Received a safety recall from Chrysler n49/NHTSA 13v-529, stating the left tie rod ball stud is defective and needs to be replaced. Contacted wolfchase Dodge in bartlett, TN and they said they couldn't get the parts, and couldn't fix my truck.
2011 Dodge Ram 2500. Consumer writes in regards to the tie rod ball stud recall completion problems. When the consumer arrived for his scheduled appointment, he was informed the parts were not available. The dealer informed the consumer, Chrysler was only sending one part per week, and he was added to a waiting list.
2011 Dodge Ram 2500. Consumer writes in regards to left tie rod ball stud recall. Consumer was told that dealership would not complete recall and that the recall was suspended. The consumer was also informed the problem only existed when backing up the truck with a trailer.
In January of 2014, I received a recall notice from Dodge/Chrysler on my 2011 Dodge ram truck, 2500 4x4. The notice said, problem: the left tie rod ball stud on your truck may fracture under certain driving conditions. This could cause a loss of directional control and/or crash without warning. 2-28-14 I called smolich motors (Dodge dealership in bend, oregon) and made an appointment to have it looked at. I was told they are over 300 people waiting for parts and that the replacement parts that were first sent have been recalled as inferior and they have no idea when they can replace the faulty parts on the truck. Since this is a safety issue I strongly feel that Chrysler/Dodge is not doing what they should to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, he attempted a turn and the driver's side tie rod fractured without warning. The contact mentioned that he had recently received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 13v529000 (steering). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 29,000. Updated 03/21/lj updated 03/27/2014.
Contacted local Dodge dealership relating to recall notice n49 / NHTSA 13-529 in Jan. 2014. Today 5/8/14 I was told that it would be sept. Before the part could be replaced, if then. Close to a year and possibly longer to replace a part that could cause a death is unaceptable. I am sure that Dodge has a supplier of the tie rod ball stud for the new trucks that they are selling. Perhaps they could stop production of the new truck and have the manufacter of the ball stud retool in order to get all the unsafe trucks repaired. But, I am sure that thier bean counters would reject that action. $$$$$$$$.
Received the n49 / NHTSA 13v-529 left tie rod recall notice, made an appointment to get it replaced on 1/10/14 4 days after the start of the recall. Took the truck in to deery brothers iowa city to get the recall completed. Instead of doing the recall they simply looked under the truck and verified it was one that needed the recall, and would put me on the list to have it done. Stated they would contact me when parts come in. This was over 6 months ago and every time I talk to them they say they are replacing parts as fast as they come in. I just received a second letter from Chrysler today stating this is an important safety recall and should be done as soon as possible. I called deery brothers again this morning and got the same response that they only get 2-3 sets of parts at a time and will let me know when mine are available. They stated they have people on the list that have been there quite a while longer than me. Which seems funny as I went in 4 days after the recall started. I did call the Chrysler group recall assistance center listed on the recall and got the same runaround. I feel I am driving a ticking time bomb, they were unable to answer my question about who would be responsible if this breaks going down the road and causes an accident. I do not use my truck as a car, usually I am carrying a heavy load in the truck and/or pulling a trailer. I'm just concerned about the collateral damage that could occur in such a case. I realize they have a lot of units on the road to refit but, I think they need to step up and get these done. One friend of mine had his break on him 300 miles from home, just after pulling off interstate. Hate to think if it had broke a few mile earlier. I hate to drive my truck right now but, cannot be without it for what appears could be a full year. Please look into the handling of this by Chrysler.
Received a recall on my truck (n49/NHTSA 13v-529). Immediately took truck to dealership for inspection as the recall states the "left tie rod ball stud on your truck may fracture under certain driving conditions. This could cause a loss of directional control and/or crash without warning. ) the dealer (frontier Dodge in el reno, okla. ) inspected the truck and told me that indeed, my truck did have the faulty parts and that the tie rods needed to be replaced on both sides. They stated they would order the parts and contact me for repairs. To date, the dealer has not contacted me for repairs. Two weeks ago, I contacted them and asked the status, they said they are still waiting for parts from Dodge. If this recall is such as safety issue as to warrant a recall, why is Dodge not following through with repairs and ensuring there are parts necessary for repairs? it has been over two months since the dealer ordered parts. I do not consider this a 'reasonable time' especially when my safety is at stake.
Recall was sent December to start effective January the 6th and I still have not gotten the dealership to fix problem. Problem:(the left tie rod stud on your truck may fracture under certain driving conditions. This could cause a loss of directional control and/or crash without warning. ) truck was purchased at gulfgate Dodge in houston. The technician is someone by the name of gary. When I called to check to see why they had not called me in to repair the problem I was told they would call me when part came in. I still have not heard anything. May is around the corner this is not good. People die from recalls everyday I would not like to be added to the list, but I have informed my family of the problem. Please help speed up process any way you can. I should be able to drive my truck and pull my horses without fear of dying. The consumer stated the vehicle would pull to the left, and it felt as though the steering was locking up. Updated 05/05/14.
In December of 2013, I received a safety recall notice for the left tie rod ball stud on my truck. As instructed, I contacted the dealer to have this fixed and was told that I'll be called in two to three weeks but I was never called. Since then, I've gone back to the dealership on three seperate occasions, the last visit was on July 2nd 2014, on this visit I was told that I'm next in line and will be called within a week, it's now two months since that visit. My understanding is, this problem could cause a loss of directional control and/or crash without warning.
Recall notice : n49/NHTSA 13v-529 left tie rod ball stud may fracture . May cause loss of directional control and/or crash without warning. I have been unsuccessful in getting this recall corrected by the dealer. I have been advised by the dealership that the problem is : they are unable to get the part needed from Chrysler. I called on 1/2/2014 and was told the part was ordered. 1/24/2014 I was told that only 3 parts were allowed to be shipped from Chrysler to the dealer every 7 days. 3/1/2014: dealer still stated they were unable to get the needed parts. What is the problem. ????.
I received safety recall n49/NHTSA 13v-529 in mid Dec 2013 regarding the left tie rod ball stud. I called to schedule an appt. With my local Dodge dealership and was placed on a waiting list because they weren't receiving the replacement part. I keep checking with the dealership but have been told that they aren't receiving the parts. So here it is, 4/28/14 and I have yet to have the tie rod on my truck replaced. Horse show season begins in may and I certainly can't take any chances towing my horse trailer with this issue unresolved. I am very unhappy with this situation - this is the first Dodge truck I've purchased and if this is how Chrysler Dodge handles recalls, it will make me think twice before I consider purchasing another Dodge truck. If your company issues recalls, it needs to provide the necessary replacement parts to dealerships in a timely fashion. Waiting 4 months, and still not having any idea of when my truck will be serviced, is completely unacceptable level of customer service. I'd sure like to use my truck for towing purposes but feel I cannot do so until this part is replaced. I want to know when I can expect satisfaction of this recall notice.
While rounding a left hand curve, lost control of the vehicle when the vehicle suddenly jerked hard to the left. The vehicle then started an uncontrollable spin and went over an embankment and into a dry creekbed. The vehicle sustained substantial damage. On inspection the front left tie rod assembly was broken. Myself and my 14 yr son sustained minor injuries. We later received notice from Chrysler on 12/24/2013 of the recall of our vehicle for same failure of tie rod assembly.
While in reverse and turning left, the left tie rod end snapped at the ball joint. It appears to be a geometry problem, not all about a faulty part. Chrysler stated the part had already been replaced during recall l16, but it has not fixed the problem. Customer service stated they will only replace the part once under the recall.
While leaving church in parking lot turning left backing up heard loud clunk tried to go forward truck did not want to move. Got out and looked and saw tie rod had broken. Vehicle was in dealership March 12 for tie rod recall 12600 miles they said no problems with tie rod and did nothing with it. Obviously there is a problem tie rods do not wear out in 27000 easy miles.
Recall first heard of on today show first of Dec,2013. Recall notice arrived in ,mail late Dec, 2013. Instructed to contact dealer Jan, 6, 2014. Contacted dealer Jan 7 2014. Told parts would take 3 to 4 weeks. Waited. Contacted dealer mid Feb,2014. Told Chrysler only releasing one part per week. Am #10 on list, waited. Contacted dealer March 11,2014. Told a problem with the new part, stopped shipping, newer parts to start shipping end of April 2014. By end of April will be 5 months. Due to risk of tie rod failure, do not feel safe on the roads. This is not what I consider a timely remedy to the safety of myself or to others on the road.
In the latter part of 2013, I received a safety recall notice for the left tie rod ball stud on my truck.
Left tie rod broke while reversing. New tie rod replaced by dealership. This despite recall previously being performed and original tie rod found to be "within specs. ".
While backing a trailer into my driveway. The drivers side tie rod broke off. I contacted the dealer and they stated that my truck was not covered under the l16 safety recall. Strange that my trucks VIN does not fit into the recall but it broke just like the trucks that are covered in the recall have broken. I have the broken tie rod if you want it.
While backing into a parking space, the tie rod broke causing both front tires to tilt inward. I happened to be at a dealer's lot and had to have it repaired at this location. Upon contacting my Dodge dealership I was informed of the recall and then contacted Chrysler where I was told - on three separate calls - this was not part of the recall. I've since found a published notice by Chrysler, stating my exact make & model and the exact tie rod breakage as being part of a recall. Chrysler has denied reimbursement of my repair approximately $600 on a $50,000 truck with only 40,000 miles. At the time of this incident myself and a passenger had just exited off a major interstate where the speed limit is 70 mph and I was towing a boat. I can no longer trust Dodge vehicles, their customer care due to their lack of safe products.
Driver side tie rod end snapped in a turn on a curvy country road.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the front driver's side tie rod stud was fractured. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 11v350000 (steering) but was advised by the manufacturer that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 47,975.
Please tell me why it is taking so long to get a part in a shop for a recall? I contacted 3 different Dodge dealerships and they all state that they are only getting 2 parts a week for a recall. I have waited over 6 months to be called for a replacement. I am on a waiting list and each time I follow up I get told the same thing. Sorry we don't have that part. If this is a recall then Dodge should have these in adequate supply if they are going to issue out letters to owners asking them to do their part to make the vehicle safe. The replacement part is a left tie rod stud.
While traveling 5mph or less in reverse while turning the driver's side tie rod ball stud sheared off causing the left wheel to be without steering. This happened two days after the vehicle was at a dealer for a safety recall related to the same components. The dealer advised me my vehicle did not have the affected parts that needed replaced and said they made a torque adjustment. When the failure happened the vehicle was towed to a different dealer for repair, who stated the first dealer had likely done something improperly or inadequately during the recall inspection.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that while reversing at approximately 2 mph, the front driver's side tie rod sheered away from the vehicle and the contact lost steering control. An independent mechanic appeared on the scene and repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 11v350000 (steering:linkages:tie rod assembly). The failure mileage was 41,000.
We received a recall notice in the mail around the 1st of the year for the left tie rod on our truck, we called reno Dodge right away, they pushed us back a few weeks, we called multiple times since then and said they'd call us, they never did, now months later we called again, and they said it would be months before they could get us in. We are concerned that this problem could harm our family since this is our primary family vehicle.
In January 2014 I received mail for an important safety recall n49 / NHTSA 13v-529 for my 2011 Ram 2500 mega cab 4x4 laramie. The safety recall is from Chrysler for a defect on left tie rod ball stud may fracture under certain driving conditions causing loss of directional control and / or crash without warning. In light of all the gm and Toyota deadly incidents with multitudes of recalls and fraud my issue has not been resolved by my local dealership genes Chrysler fairbanks ak, contacting Chrysler inquiring about my parts taking extremely long to manufacture per my dealership, and I also contacted by telephone, the administrator, national highway traffic safety administration, washington DC vehicle hotline and still nothing has been done. I was the 1rst to make an appointment back in January 2014 then got the runaround ever since and repeated calls to the service workers, manager and owner of genes Chrysler my dealership. Worse yet I just receive yet another mail notice about the same recall and still waiting. I emailed by dealership informing them that my family and I were taking a vacation driving on the richardson highway to valdez ak which are the worst roughest roads in ak and that if we were to be involved in an accident caused by this unresolved safety defect that my children and family would sue and blow this out on the media. Please help us I drive 55 miles round trip daily to work and I am the one risking my life!.
