Dodge Ram 2500 owners have reported 81 problems related to carrier/rack (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The pealing (defective) paint that Dodge refuses to do anything about has now pealed around the windshield frame. The windshield is stuck to the paint, but since the paint has turned loose from the windshield frame it's just sort of sitting there. I guess the good news is now upon impact the windshield will quickly exit the vehicle allowing the sharp plastic shards from the broken dash to also leave the vehicle rather than impaling the occupant's. This just weeks after having to weld a broken lower a frame bracket back in place, yet another defect in these trucks.

Dash is cracking in multiple area. Seems to be getting progressively worse. Defrost vents are falling apart and becoming lodged in the vents. Worried about these pieces breaking and becoming sharps projectiles in the evening of a collision. Not safe.

The frame on my truck is rusting out from underneath of its self, which is leading to crack in spots. The date provided below is an about date. I took my truck in for tire work and asked the guys if he could look over my truck to see if there is something that I might have missed, I do it quarterly. They told me that my frame was cracked and rotting out from underneath of its self. I can't find anyone that will fix it,.

Dashboard has started cracking and sharp pieces of plastic have become loose creating a potential for them to become projectiles in the event of an accident. Seems most of the plastic trim pieces are brittle inside the vehicles passenger cabin.

My front left tie rod in my truck broke causing extensive damage. It punctured a tire in the sidewalk which is not repairable , cracked a wheel which they do not make anymore so need to replace 4 to match and bent or broke every single component in the steering linkage setup. I have made numerous attempts for some help and have gotten none. I have sent multiple emails with no replies, tried the chat system on the mopar site and the person (alex av1129 employee number) was if no help either. I have purchased a steering linkage setup from les schwab for $649 before I knew this was a past recall issue. I never got any notification for the recall or did I get offered the buyback option. I also called mccord Dodge in longview washington explaining my issue and was told by a lavonya in the recall dept there's nothing she can do this is an issue between you and Chrysler not you and mccords. I also asked lavonya my address on file and she read it exactly and I received no notification from them either. She was quite rude. She told me most people do routine maintenance at mccords and they find out these issues. I let her know I do my own maintenance and am not required to do business with them since my warranty has expired please help thanks kirc mattinen 22528 nelson hill ln clatskanie or 97016 (503)728-9396 kircmattinen@gmail. At approximately 64,000 miles, I noticed the dashboard started to crack in multiple places. Shortly there after, pieces started to break away while driving. Most of the pieces had sharp edges with the potential to cause injury to the driver or front seat passenger. There have been numerous complaints/reports of this problem logged with both the manufacturer and the NHTSA for years with no action even attempted to have a safety recall issued to have the defective factory dashboard replaced at no cost to the owner. What has to happen before the NHTSA acts? the loss of someone's eye perhaps or a piece flying into the face of a driver causing loss of sight and causing a collision? wake up!!! this is not just a cosmetic problem. It's a sleeping giant waiting to happen!.

Takata recall complaint recall number r26 / NHTSA 15v-312 I took my truck to the dealership to get the recalled passenger takata airbag inflator replaced under the recall. I was told by one of the service advisors that Dodge will replace any parts that are broken free of charge during the replacement of the inflators. Well that was a lie, as you can see that the dashboard on this same 2003 Ram 2500 model has many complaints about it cracking and literally breaking apart due it becoming brittle. Mine has 5 cracks on the dashboard and it is blowing broken pieces out the vents into my face while driving due to the problem with the dashboards. Well then the dealership advised me that the dashboard will crack and break into pieces during the replacement of the faulty takata inflator and they wanted me to pay to replace the dashboard and other associated parts that will break apart during the replacement so I declined the repair. They told me that since my dashboard has cracks already that they would not pay for the parts that would break during the replacement of the inflator. I do not have the money to replace the entire dashboard. So now every time my wife is a passenger in the truck I have to worry about her getting injured worse in an accident due the faulty inflator. I find this unacceptable that Dodge installed cheap plastic dashboards and now I have a defective inflator that can not be replaced with out costing me thousands of dollars due to the defective dashboards. I think Dodge should pay for everything since they used faulty parts and the recall repairs should not cost me anything to get it fixed no matter how many parts they have to replace free of charge attached is the repair ticket I received from the dealership.

A few years ago the dash started cracking. The dash is made of a hard plastic about 1/4" thick. The cracks generally run from front to back not sideways. I kept thinking if I was to have a car accident those cracks and shards of thick plastic would severly cut me up. Last summer I duct taped all the cracks. Just recently I took the truck in for air bag recall, now the dash is in worse shape. They told me at the dealer (lithium Dodge of bryan, texas) that doing the recall more cracking would occur. They said most Dodge trucks have this cracking dash problem. My other cars and trucks which are much older dont have this problem. I think Dodge should replace the dash. I would not have done the recall if I had known they would make the dash cracking much worse.
Completely cracked dash board top in two places.

Dash cracking severely. If airbag deploys plastic shards will impale passenger and/or driver.
I was driving home when I ran into some bumpy roads and I looked at my passenger side airbag control module in the dash and it was gone. The whole inner dash was broke loose and plastic parts were falling onto the floorboard. I've e-mailed Dodge and haven't received anything back from them yet. The dealership says it could be from $1000 to $7000 to fix. It had a few cracks in it before but now it seams to be just falling to pieces. I believe this could cause my airbags to deploy at any minute and this is a safety issue. In an accident how could you tell if the airbag deployed before or after the incident? could the airbag cause an accident? Dodge says it's out of warranty and I will have to fix it myself. I think with all the dash issues, Dodge should at least bare some of the responsibility. They won't even tell me if my truck is safe to drive? so it sets in back yard.

As 2nd owner for past 12 yrs vehicle was like new, about 3yrs ago it developed a crack in the dashboard from the windshield to glove box door and since has cracked in 2 other areas from windshield to front! this vehicle sits under cover of an RV shelter with my RV 90% of it's existence! I just recently found out that daimler-Chrysler has refused any recall to to correct this faulty product for thousands owners experiencing this problem! I. Cannot believe the government has not made Chrysler responsible for replacing this inferior product as they have the air bags. I wholeheartedly pray that you can use your power to hold Chrysler to stand up and correct this problem!.
Interior plastic grab handles, described as "trim" per manufacturer. Located inside door on vehicle upper frame of vehicle. Used to assist with entering and exiting vehicle. Housing covering bolts to secure handles cracks and rips apart, causing the handle(s) to spontaneously remove from vehicle. Resulting in possible injuries from fall to driver and/or passengers. Vehicle stationary when entering/exiting and using handles.
Dash has been cracking for years as most do. Becoming a safety issue as pieces fly into your face everytime you use heat or ac. Also has jagged edges that could be an issue in an accident situation.
While searching for a fix for my dash which just cracked I found several reports of after the dash cracked where electrical issues arise. As in headlights not working at all or when switching to hi beam. I also saw a video on this issue from a news broadcast and when Chrysler was questioned about this there was never any response while the public was requesting a recall. From what I can find out just in the hour I was looking this up this would apply to just about every Dodge ram made between 1996 and 2006. My truck is garage kept and I keep it in excellent condition so for this to happen due to sitting in the sun it's entire life I might understand but there is no way this should have happened to mine. My father was a mechanic for Chrysler for over 20 years and this is just plain cheap made products. Which from what I can find out could and most likely will lead to some safety issue with the vehicle. Since I can not find anything more out with regards to what the NHTSA is doing only monitoring the issue?? the broadcast I saw was from 2012, I would think something would have become of this by now for sure after seeing that video. Yet at that time the news channel stated your doing nothing.
Truck garage kept for 10 of its 14 years. Current mileage 2017 = 90,000. Aug 2014 dash board began to crack and fall apart - truck had only 79,950 miles! plastic pieces fall into dash holes and get stuck under dash amongst steering wheel, electrical wires/controls, etc. Plastic pieces can fall at any time whether in motion or stationary.
Dashboard cracked. First the little piece by the front windshield just fell apart. We replaced that and now the big dashboard is cracked all the way through. We were just driving on the freeway and it just cracked.
The dash is cracking and disintegrating and the sharp shards of the plastic dash pieces are a safety hazard.
My 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 dash is falling apart. It is starting to "chunk" meaning pieces are coming out of it in what I would describe as sharp jagged "shards" with pointy edges. Noticed it beginning of last year as a single crack, not it is extensive an spreading across my entire dash. I am concerned because now wiring is exposed which could short lights etc. The chunks could fly out at high speeds into my eyes blinding my vision. In a wreck who knows what would happen.

Possible defective dashboard, has multiple big cracks and is fatigued material, seems to be getting worse and posing a safety hazard. If vehicle were to be involved in a crash, sharp plastic shards will be projected thru cab of truck. I do have a family and their safety is a major concern. Please get back to me in reference to this matter.
Dash cover and plastic substructure cracked and sharp pieces falling off into the dash. Dash pulling away from the firewall on the passenger side. Headlight and hvac control mouting points broken lose and falling into the dash. Concerened about proper airbag deployment in event of a crash with lose dash fragments and the dash detaching further from the firewall and becoming a projectile causing additional injury to occupants.
Top of dash is cracked all the way through from front to back in several places. It has always been parked either in the shade of under a carport.
I was sitting at a stop light and heard a loud snap and a crack in the dash board snapped out and a piece of plastic also was popped out.
The dashboard on my 2003 Dodge2500 started cracking with nothing ever touching it. Pieces of my dash are now falling into my under compartment from intersecting cracks. I've never seen a dashboard do that in my life. My fear now is that if I get in an accident that shards of plastic may be thrown everywear. Or that the recall of the air bag in this model may go off throwing shards of plastic everywhere as well. This truck was over 30,000 dollars , you would think Dodge could give you a dashboard that didn't disintegrate for that much money.
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 that the dash board is cracking and falling apart for know reason. My truck is in like new condition the dash started cracking at about 60,000 the truck now has 112,000 miles on it and the dash is in pieces. Nhtsa needs to take this mater seriously and make Dodge take care is this problem at no cost to the truck owner. Dodge knows there was a defect with the plastic that was used in the dash and needs to take care of it or be made to fix it. This is a danger to me the driver and my wife and kids that ride in my truck.
I noticed a crack in my dash (about 2") and the felt weak and spongy. After a couple of month I notice the crack grown across the dash (about 24") and felt really week. After 5 months from the initial crack the whole dash has fell apart into large chunks and now there is no dash left exposing all the components under it. I regularly cleaned and treated the dash with dash protective products but did not prevent condition.
The dash in my truck has cracked from the from to the rear of the dash like alot of of the Dodgeram have done but yet there has not been a recall for this issue. What is it going to take before anyone does anything about this issue. Is someone waiting to have a airbag go off and send the dash in little pices or one large pice to cause a fatal accident or what this is a saftey issue.
Cracked dash.
Dash cracking. Dash is in pieces and may affect airbag deployment.
The dashboard in my truck started to crack and is now falling apart with huge sharp pieces coming off I am afraid my small children will be injured from the dash.
Dashboard is seriously cracked and broken, chunks are missing, cracks go from front all the way to the windshield, giving vehicle to son next year, worried pieces of plastic may fly into his eyes, and it looks embarrassing also.

The dash started cracking and has not stopped . Will they ever do anything about this or will my dash be in my floor ?.
The dash just started to crack and fall apart into small and large very sharp pieces. What would happen in an accident? these sharp plastic parts could fly right into the driver and passengers faces.
