Shortly after speeding up a car in front of me hit their brakes. When I attempted to slow down it seemed that the accelerator pedal did not return to neutral and it was very hard to stop. After troubleshooting, I found out that the accelerator pedal was sticking and not returning to neutral after being depressed. Sometimes it would slowly return to neutral, other times it would stay depressed. There is no external interference with the pedal (I. E. Floor mat), and only the pedal linkage is at fault. If I pushed the pedal a large distance then it would normally spring back all the to neutral. When I checked closely, it appears that the accelerator pedal position sensor (apps) is what is causing the binding. This truck is throttle-by-wire so no mechanical cable is involved. The apps in this model truck is part of the accelerator pedal mechanism and the hinge point for the pedal is in the apps.

While driving on interstate highway in my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel truck the check engine light came on and the engine shut down. It appeared that a fuel line had ruptured. Fuel had sprayed on the engine and fuel was visibly leaking from the engine. The truck was towed to the Dodge dealership where I was told that the number 4 injector tube had broken. The truck was repaired and everything seems to work properly. I discovered that there are multiple instances listed on internet forums related to the number 4 injector tube and clamp holding the fuel line on 2006 Dodge ram trucks with the cummins diesel. The fact that the number 4 injector tube (out of 6 total) is the only injector tube that appears to have this problem and the fact that fuel is sprayed on a hot engine creating a safety issue should warrant further investigation and design review. I contacted Chrysler customer service to inform them of the issue and to see if any repair considerations were available. Chrysler customer service did not offer any repair considerations because they said my truck warranty had expired. Chrysler did not acknowledge this issue as anything other than a repair let alone as a safety issue. Any consideration for review of what I believe to be a safety issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Lift pump failed during normal operation while traveling at highway speed. Lost all power to steering and brakes creating very difficult to control vehicle. Dealer would not replace failed part and instead put whole new pump assembly inside fuel tank. This means they know the current method of mounting on engine block is a design defect. Reviewed online and found other comments have a similar story. Since this is a re-engineering of the fuel delivery system that they know is defective and because losing fuel stops the engine creating an extreme hazard for such a large vehicle, Dodge should be recalling trucks with this configuration immediately to prevent injury and remedy an obvious defective design. In my case, I have had the truck serviced with the same dealer since it was new and they never warned me about this, but clearly are aware of this problem.

Driving home from work I noticed a strong smell of diesel fuel in the cab, looking in the rearview mirror I noticed that all the cars behind me had slowed down to a distance of approx. 300 feet and white smoke trailing behind the truck. When I had the chance I pulled over in a store parking lot and exited the cab to see fuel pouring out under my truck and white smoke coming out from the left front wheel well. I had the truck towed to closest Dodge dealer where they discovered the number 4 injector line had ruptured and coated the whole engine bay. They also indicted that I was lucky that this did not cause a fire or possibly an accident from the fuel spilling on the roadway. While reading a cummins forum online I have discovered this to be a fairly common problem.
My 2007 Dodge ram blew a tipm a/c unit. I was told by the dealer it was because the air conditioner compressor clutch locked up and burned out the tipm. My extended warranty was denied. I paid $1500. 00 to get this fixed this week. The other day I was driving to work and my truck started vibrating and completely stopped in the middle of a very busy road. It was towed to the dealer where I was told it had a foreign substance in the diesel fuel. It smelled like paint thinner. The warranty rep said it was caused by dirt in my fuel tank caused by not changing my fuel filter frequently. Now they tell me it needs 6 fuel injectors and a fuel pump total cost $8000. 00. By the dealer and warranty rep. The truck has 67000 miles. They said this is not warranty issue and will not be covered.

2007 Dodge Ram 2500. Consumer requests reimbursement for repairs concerning diesel fuel and engine the consumer stated while driving, he began to smell diesel fuel. He then noticed the fuel gauge started going down. Smoke starting emitting from under the hood, so he quickly pulled over to the next rest stop area. The consumer raised the hood and discovered fuel all over the engine, under the truck and on the travel trailer he was pulling. The truck was taken to a mechanic where he diagnosed the problem as the #4 injector line which was leaking.

When this diesel truck cleans it"s particulite filter I get a strong fuel smell oder in the cab when stopped at a stop light or stop sign. This cleaning of the d. P. R. Filter happens every 100 or so miles driven and last for about 20 miles. When the oder occurs my eyes burn, and I cough alot. So far the Dodge dealers are unable to fix my problem. I have taken the pick up truck to two differant dealers trying to get relief from this problem.
I was taking a road trip hauling my boat that was around 300 miles or so and got through the first 100 + fine. Driving along when the trucks dies on the interstate and has no power brakes or steering making it very difficult and dangerous to control and come to a stop. After finally and luckily coming to a stop and heart rate started to drop, I had to get on the road again, I managed to get the truck to restart after bleeding the fuel through the fuel filter housing and having to bump the key a few times. I turned around and went back home going very very slow and being o so careful. Come to find out the problem is the lift pump and is extremely to common. This should alert anyone that deals with safety and should prompt a investigation.

Upon entering the freeway and just getting up to freeway speed, the right (driver-side) rear tire separated from the tread causing the vehicle swerve violently. Driver was able to recover and stay on the road. Extensive damage to wheel well, right rear quarter panel, bumper, taillight, and tailgate. No other vehicles involved.
2004 Dodge 2500 truck. Consumer states problem with lift pump the consumer was informed by a mechanic that the lift pumps fail with 50,000-60,000 miles because they were mounted on the port side of the engine by the fuel filter by the heat motor. When the pump failed, the engine had no way to get fuel up from the fuel tank. The consumer stated the vehicle had to be towed.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed that the check engine light illuminated. The dealer was notified and the contact was awaiting a response. The manufacturer had not been notified. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 59,249. Updated 01/24/11 according to the invoice, the dealer found a fuel leak under the hood. Updated 03/23/11.
Fuel lift pump failure.
1999 Dodge Ram 2500 5. 9 cummins diesel. Driving on the highway the throttle would not accelerate. The vehicle would slow on a hill and was unable to get out of the way or change lanes. So I stopped driving on the highway but now the same thing happens in town. I would press the throttle and have zero response. Kind of scary when you are entering a main road or turning at a traffic light. My mechanic tells me the injector pump is failing and that it is a common failure. $3,000. 00 repair. I paid a premium for the diesel as it should last 1,000,000 miles or more. But at 150,000 to have this happen is absurd. If you would be good enough to search on-line you will find that thousands of others have the same problem. The culprit is a bosch vp44 injector pump that is being used around the globe for diesel applications. Cummins will replace the defective part on some buses and some other vehicles but tell me that I have to get Dodge to do the repair. Dodge says there is no re-call and that I will have to pay almost $3,000. 00 for a reconditioned pump not new! imagine slowing for a railway crossing then being unable to get out of the trains way. Or trying to accelerate and change lanes to get out of the path of emergency vehicles. You see a break in traffic as you attempt a turn between traffic the throttle does not respond. I am currently saving money for this repair but considering the prevalence of this danger I thought that surely Dodge would have volunteered a safety recall by now. Not 1 or 2 vehicles but thousands and thousands. How many other drivers are there out there that must continue to operate their defective vehicle while they too save up for this costly fix. Thank you for looking into this matter.
#4 fuel injector line failure, 2006 Dodge 2500 diesel, one owner, never wrecked. Sprayed fuel all over under hood and on exhaust with a lot of smoke and strong diesel smell. According to Dodge parts department, this part, cummings part #508674ab, goes bad so often that it is the only fuel injector line out of a possible six lines that they keep in stock. The potential for a fire, with this failure,is, in my opinion,is very high. A recall is in order. I am a retired auto mechanic with about 40+ years experience.
While exiting a highway off ramp at highway speeds (60-65mph) truck died with no warning or alarms in a curve. I lost all power steering and most braking. As I approached near edge of embankment with no steering or rapid braking, I was able to refire motor for about 5 seconds which gave me power steering back and I was able to avert going off of a steep embankment, and avoided accident. After towing to local dealership it was determined that my fuel lift pump had failed. Dodge has been aware of these problems for sometime with these trucks. Repair was over 700 dollars. Truck had around 54k miles.
Lift pump failed on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 cummins. This is a common problem that can cause the injection pump to fail. There were no warning lights and power was lower than expected but not dangerous. Problem was only discovered because other owners encouraged me to check for pump failure before symptoms occurred.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) allen samuels Dodge in waco declined to fix my Dodge Ram 2500 with 39,000 mi. They said at one time or another that there was water in my diesel. That is all they had to come up with to not have to pay for the problem with warrenty. I have 100,000 mi. Warrenty on drivetrain, which is really no good if you can't use it. I think Dodge should not be able to advertise on tv for 100,000 mi. Warrenty when they know they can get out of warrenting the vehicle. That is a bull [xxx] line not to pay. This cost me 4,322. 91. They said they had to replace all 6 injectors to fix my problem. Started out replacing 2, but that was not going to fix the problem. So that is how they got to replacing all 6 injectors. Tried to call and work with Dodge Chrysler assistance program. Only talked to women about my 5. 9 diesel engine. The women assigned my case worker to me named ryan. He never once contacted me about the problem. Guess they are well trained to do a bad job.

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions. The engine stalled without warning. The engine failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure was contributed to a hole in the fuel line. The vehicle was repaired for the malfunction. The failure mileage was 64,000. Updated 04/05/10 the consumer stated the fule line to the #4 cylinder has a plastic support that vibrates loose and rubs a hole into the metal fuel line. Fuel is sprayed onto the engine compartment. When fuel pressure is lost, the engine stalls. Updated 08/06/jb.
2002 Dodge Ram 2500 cummins diesel lift pump failure after dealer installed in tank fuel module this is the 3rd injection pump since purchasing this vehicle, (incredible) over $1200. 00 each failure Chrysler did pay 800. 00 toward repair of this vehicle. Why the givernment does not step up and force Dodge to rectify these situations is beyond me, to busy chasing the toyotas of the world, in order for the government owned gm,Dodge, to catch up in sales (absolutely amazing) but hey buy american huh.
Fuel filter assembly. Fuel heater element wires deteriorated and fuel began to leak through seal around wires. I noticed the smell of fuel and upon investigating found the shorted wires evaporating/burning the fuel collected around them. The assembly was tooo hot to touch. After contacting Dodge I was told that the unit was discontinued and a new kit was available for replacement at a cost of approximately $1300.
Driving my 06 Dodge ram mega cab 2500 5. 9l diesel, the #4 fuel line cracked directly behind the nut on top of the engine. This happened in Dec 09 and happened again in Jan 11. This caused a few gallons of fuel to leak onto the hot engine which could have caused a fire due to the distance I had to drive (no services near for 15 miles in the middle of alaskan winter). Truck was towed to the local Dodge dealer and part was replaced since engine was still under warranty. This time the part is 64. 00 dollars and labor is 130. 00.
There was no symptoms that there was going to be a failure. Fuel lift pump stopped working and truck cut off while going 55mph leaving a 6000lb truck with no power steering or power brakes. Happened with 62326 miles on truck. Had this pump failed 30 seconds later my truck would have been going through a red light because I would not have been able to stop. Dodge and cummins do not supply a pump in this location for 2003-2004 Dodge ram trucks anymore. When they did supply it was approximately $350. 00, they have retrofitted a new pump in the fuel tank that cost $1000. 00. There are many complaints on diesel truck forums about the same problem with this truck. Dodge will not put old factory style fuel pump on these trucks anymore for a reason.
Possible dangerous leaking fuel tube Dodge corporation Dodge customer assistance center p. O. Box 21-8004 auburn hills, mi 48321-8004 tel: 800-992-1997 13 October 2009 dear Dodge corporation, I am forwarding a copy of this letter to the NHTSA, aaa, consumer reports and cppb. On October 10th while returning home from pasadena I detected a strong scent of diesel in the cab of my truck. It was especially strong as I slowed after traveling several hours on the southern California freeway system. When I arrived home I investigated and discovered that the injector tube to the #4 cylinder was spraying a fine mist of fuel into and around the engine compartment and onto the firewall as well as being soaked into the hood insulation. I know that the diesel fuel is far less volatile than gasoline. I also know that atomizing it in a confined compartment that has high temperatures as well as a chance for spark or a shorted wire, such as the confines of the engine compartment, are an excellent location for a vehicle fire. Diesel fuel is difficult to ignite but once it is burning it is difficult to extinguish. You and your expert engineers are aware of this. I found that the blue plastic retaining clamp that holds the injector tube in place and prevents vibration from damaging the connections or the tube itself was loose. The plastic clamp/retainer was securely held in place by the screw that passed through the device but the whole clamp would freely move around the tube and the tube would be able to move back and forth inside the clamp. This sort of defeats its purpose. I found that the pressed fitting on the tube near where it attached to the injector was where the misting/leak was. My internet research has found that this anomaly in the fuel delivery system though not common is not uncommon. I believe that it is more apt to occur in the 2006 models but this is only my opinion from limited internet research.
I own a 2002 Dodge ram p u, cummins diesel, and manual trans. . And have replaced the tpu " throttle positioning unit" (sensor) 3 times now, @ a cost of over 700. 00 each time. Not only is this an expensive repair, but a potentialy and very dangerous defect in these trucks. What occurs is a fluctuation , and the ability to controll the accelerator with the pedal, from a fluctuating ability, to an all out loss of power whatsoever. . . The engine will accelorate, and the idle will rise creating a dangerous situation, then eventualy the engine will not respond at all to the pedal. . . I use my pickup to haul and tow many differant trailors, including our 40 ft. 5th wheel, and have had several close calls when I loose power altogether. There needs to be a recall on this unit. . . Sensor, as it is not only expensive, it is more importantly very dangerous.
Straps broke on my gas tank dropping the tank to the hwy, which punctured the tank and 34 gals of diesel fuel was lost on the hwy. After checking this out with several different sources, it seams to be a recurring problem with Dodge trucks why no service bulletins or owner notifications, to the original owner.
