36 Wheel problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/28/2013

I was on my way to see my doctor in waltham ,MA. And I travel the MA. Turnpike at 67mph, and every bridge span or bump in the road surface the truck started to shake uncontrollably until I went to the brake down lane and brought the truck to a dead stop. In the 166 miles from my home to the doctor office and back home again I had to stop this truck 15 times. When I brought it to the dealership I had to pay $1,699. 31for the damage that was cause by a defective part that no one want to replace under what should be a recall. Chrysler says that because of the year and mileage of the vehicle that it was my problem even though they have redesigned the part that cause this problem in the first place. And even after I pay the first repair bill the truck still had the same problem until the mechanic tighten the bolts on the part. The truck is still handling the same as before it was fix. And because I have had major surgery I will have to travel that road many times before I,m healed. Because I'm on workman comp. I have limited funds to live on and I really worry when I drive that truck as I can't afford another vehicle and Chrysler want to do nothing about it until someone is hurt or dead.

37 Wheel problem of the 2011 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

While backing into a parking space, the tie rod broke causing both front tires to tilt inward. I happened to be at a dealer's lot and had to have it repaired at this location. Upon contacting my Dodge dealership I was informed of the recall and then contacted Chrysler where I was told - on three separate calls - this was not part of the recall. I've since found a published notice by Chrysler, stating my exact make & model and the exact tie rod breakage as being part of a recall. Chrysler has denied reimbursement of my repair approximately $600 on a $50,000 truck with only 40,000 miles. At the time of this incident myself and a passenger had just exited off a major interstate where the speed limit is 70 mph and I was towing a boat. I can no longer trust Dodge vehicles, their customer care due to their lack of safe products.

38 Wheel problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

While traveling on the highway and normal speeds and you hit a minor bump, wheels will shake violently with no ability for driver to recover steering. The only recourse is to let the vehicle slow down and then pull over. This is know as the death wobble and can be viewed on youtube. Dodge has denied the problem but yet you can buy an entire new steering assmbly from Dodge for $300. I have spent over $4000 trying to fix this issue. This has happened to me over 10 times and no longer put my family in the pickup and will no longer use it on the highway. . A simple tierod recall will not fix this and there is enough people having this problem that the NHTSA should force Dodge to finally correct this design flaw, before we get killed.

39 Wheel problem of the 2015 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Vehicle tpms on Ram 2500's is set to 80psi for "proper inflation" on a unloaded truck is way to much. When driving durning summer months tire pressure is exceeding max tire pressure of 80psi. No way to deflate tire to more safe pressures without tpms "light" and "warning indicator" telling you to inflate tires to 80psi. Update tpms to be able to lower tire pressures to a more reasonable pressure before someone blows out a tire and has or causes an accident.

40 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

Retaining nut on tpms sensor split causing tire to lose all air. 1 week later another tire had complete deflation and tpms sensor had fallen in to wheel. Inspected all sensors and found all tpms retaining nuts had split. This can cause catastrophic air loss and is extremely dangerous. I have already replaced two entire sensors and will attempt to have retaining nuts on other two sensors replaced. Dealer will not perform work under warranty. This is an extremely dangerous manufacturing defect!!.

41 Wheel problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/25/2013

Was driving at approx 55mph and drove over a patched spot in road and the vehicle began to vibrate/shake uncontrollably until I brake or slowed the vehicle to approx 35 mph. This has occurred on 3 occassions since the initial event and two times has created a very unsafe condition while in interstate/highway traffic that almost caused 2 accidents with me trying to slow and pull off the road to gain control of the vehicle. This vehicle milage is about 98% highway milage. I am told by the local Dodge dealer this is not related to the current recalls.

42 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/24/2013

Valve stem retaining nuts are all cracked. I caught them before they separated, but have read about others that have separated, allowing tpms module to fall into tire, which instantly deflates and could cause a loss of control. Dealer says not covered under warranty despite being clearly a manufacturing defect.

43 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 02/11/2013

Tpms retaining nut fell off & this caused flat tire at speed. This is the 4th tpms retaining nut that has failed on this vehicle. The other 3 were found cracked before they failed & replaced at that time (over the last 2 years).

44 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

I was driving in my truck with my wife on sr 25 in a construction zone. I was hauling my 13 ft detro trailer. Approximate speed was 55 mph. We went around a bend in the road where the pavement changed levels. The truck jumped and began violently vibrating. The vibrating continued until I slowed down to approx 10 mph. The problem I thought was fixed a. K. A. The death wobble has returned. I called my local Dodge dealership with skepticism. The dealer owner stated they could not fix the problem unless they were able to duplicate the problem. He was doubtful they would be able to duplicate it. The owner called his district manager who stated he has never heard of this problem (but the owner said he has). The owner suggested I begin video taping while driving. I have been video taping each time I enter the interstate so I can "catch" the death wobble on video. At this point, I do not feel safe in the vehicle and do not want my family riding in the truck. I have escaped accident to this point because there weren't any vehicles around me at the time the death wobble occurred. This is my 3rd posting. Please help. What should I do?.

45 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 12/17/2012

When checking air pressure on my tires, I found cracks in the moto metal 909 rims on driver and passenger front. I am having them replaced with another brand, but after researching on the internet, this is not the first time. I do not offroad my truck, but do tow a 5th wheel.

46 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 10/20/2012

I was driving with my son in the vehicle getting on I-65 going sb. I crossed over an expansion and the truck starting violently jumping and vibrating. It threw me far enough that I was almost in the grass. Once I applied the brakes, the truck slid completely into the grass. The vibrating continued until I was almost completely stopped (approx 10 mph). I new immediately something was wrong with this particular truck. I took the truck to my local Dodge dealer and explained what had happened. The invoice reads "customer the front end wobbles bad from 65 mph down to 10 mph, after hitting a bump". "replaced front brake calipers and hoses. Add fluid". I did not believe this was the problem so I began researching to see if anyone had experienced the same issue. Turns out many other Dodge trucks have experienced this issue. So much so that it has been given the name "the death wobble". In my research I have found numerous fixes for this problem but they are all after market parts. I continued to drive my truck hoping the problem was resolved. I have driven the same route many times without issue and I assumed the problem was resolved.

47 Wheel problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 10/16/2012

I was driving my 2004 Dodge 2500 4x4 diesel pickup at 40-45 mph. As I was going into a curve in the road, I drove over a rough part in the road and the steering wheel started shaking violently back and forth (left and right). It was very hard to control the vehicle, I nearly crashed into a car on one side of me and a bridge railing on the other side. I thought maybe one of the front wheels was coming off the axle or I had a blowout. I slowed down and finally got the vehicle under control. I took it to a diesel repair shop immediately after this happened and they found the steering stabilizer shock leaking, the outer tie rod at the drag link and inner tie rod had some play, and both upper ball joints had some play. They replaced the steering stabilizer shock, the right inner tie rod, and the right outer tie rod. These repairs came to close to $400. They mentioned the "death wobble" problem and suggested we might add additional aftermarket parts to the front suspension to prevent this from happening again. The shop could not do the work right then or I would have had it done. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle now; it took all my driving experience and strength to get control of the vehicle, I do not think a weaker or inexperienced driver could have kept the vehicle from crashing. After looking at all the evidence of this "death wobble" problem on the internet, I cannot believe that the problem has not been solved and the vehicles recalled. People could die and or be injured and probably already have. The accident would probably be blamed on driver error with broken parts blamed on the accident instead of on the broken parts causing the accident.

48 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

I was on the highway doing around 75 and hit a small bump and all 4 tires locked up, the steering wheel and column shook violently, the dashboard and everything shook really hard. I started to hit the brakes and did not let go of the steering wheel even if it was shaking hard. My truck started to go onto the shoulder then went into the grass on the right and came to a stop. It was still running and I got out to look at the tires and underneath but nothing was wrong. I took it to a different dealer and told them I experienced this before and not to try to duplicate the complaint because it will go out of control. Today they called me to say they replaced the ball joint (under warranty) but I have to pay for an alignment. I told them that I looked the symptoms up on the internet and saw this is a real problem that cant be fixed and I don't want this to happen to me again, they can keep it. Why do I have to pay 700. 00/month payments and also pay with my life or someone else's life too? I will not pick this 'fixed' truck up from the dealer. On the internet and you-tube its called, the death wobble and is what happened to me, only worse and twice! so, today I went to NHTSA and filed both complaints. Believe me, I may not have it on video but its very violent and you cant steer! the steering shakes so bad that you can barely hang onto it and I think all the tires quit turning because you literally are bouncing down the highway.

49 Wheel problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

The spare tire on a Dodge Ram 2500 is secured underneath the vehicle with a stranded cable. While driving down the road, the spare tire fell off. When it fell, it bounced into the rear bumper, jolted the vehicle, and then rolled down the road. Although no accident occurred, it could have been catastrophic if other vehicles had been on the road at the time. The root cause is most likely due to a failure at the location where the cable is swaged to the plate. Dodge should be required to inspect and repair these at their expense.

51 Wheel problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/10/2012

We were driving to the store and the vehicle started shaking violently and caused us to go into the other lane. I slowed down to stop, got out looked for some broken part. . . . Did not see anything out of the ordinary. We then proceeded slowly back home and the vehicle just had a continuous vibration, but did not shake violently. I then looked it up on the computer and found others having the same problem. I would really like to know what needs to be done to avoid excess cost but be safe.

52 Wheel problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/03/2012

I have been watching the news recently and saw the Jeep death wobble reports. I have the same experience and same problem with my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. I almost got into two accidents on the high way and once my truck lost control due to the death wobble and turned 180 degrees on the highway facing oncoming traffic. But, luckily no one was hurt. I took the truck to see what the problem was and the mechanics said I have to pay a couple thousand to repair. However, the mechanic said he has seen many Jeep and Dodge have the same problem and said the company should have a recall because it is extremely dangerous and it is the manufactures fault. Due to hard economic times I can not afford to fix my truck and I am very scared for my safety and my families. So please help me in this terrible situation along with other Dodge ram and Jeep owners. This is very common problem and can be seen all over the internet, youtube and the news. I look forward to hearing back from you and getting help.

53 Wheel problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 02/28/2012

Traveling on us 58 in suffolk, va. I was forced off the road while trying to avoid an accident and hit a very large water filled pot hole. The results was my driver side front tire came off the vehicle after breaking two lug nuts. The truck slid 300 feet down the road until coming to rest in the median. A usaa repair facility replaced the driver side hub assembly. I moved to kings bay GA. And started to notice a vibration in the steering wheel. The vehicle has 35" off road tire on it so I assumed the tires need to balanced. After about three weeks of driving the real problems arose. I developed the "Dodge death wobble". It is a violent shaking of the steering system that forces you to slow to below 45 miles per hour. It is so violent that a 36 year old navy diver chief, who has been to tactical driving schools for the military, has a difficult time holding it on the road. Now, I have had the Dodge dealership disregard the problem, balance the tires, replace the steering dampener, and the problem still exists.

56 Wheel problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 01/13/2012

I pulled off of the freeway and coasted into the mall parking lot where I heard a loud clunk. Tried to stop the truck with the brakes and they went to the floor. Coasting to a full stop moments later I placed the vehicle in park. Brake fluid was all over the front left tire. Called the tow truck. As he hooked the truck up he reached down and picked up my calaper from behind the front left wheel. Towed the truck to Dodge dealership. Everyone said they had never heard much less seen a calaper fall right off the brake like that. I'm lucky that my 1, 2 and 3 year old are ok. If that had fallin off completely while on the free-way in rush hour traffic it would have not been good for anyone involved.

58 Wheel problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 12/23/2011

While driving my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 down the highway and I will hit small bump, and the truck will violently shake and I am unable to steer the truck. The "death wobble" makes it impossible for me to steer during the shaking and the only way to regain control of the truck is to try to brake and not crash. This first started on 12-23-11 and has happened about 6 times since then. The death wobble occurs at speeds as slow as 40 mph. It is extremely dangerous due to my inability to steer when the truck shakes so violently. I have researched this and there are more people with this same problem and there appears to be no fix. The tires shake side to side and the inside of the cab of the pickup is vibrating violently.

59 Wheel problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 12/21/2011

While driving down interstate 25 in albuquerque nm I hit an expansion joint in the road and the truck began to shake violently forcing all other drivers on the road around me to scatter to avoid an accident. I immediately began to slow down and the violent shaking did not stop until I reached approx 35-40mph. I was convinced that my wheel was falling off or a major suspension component had failed but after an immediate inspection there was nothing readily identified. After a very brief search of the web it appears this is a coomon problem called the "death wobble" and no one appears to have been able to correct it with repairs. Below are 3 of the many you tube links I found describing the incident perfectly as it happend to me. . Read more...

60 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/21/2011

I was on the highway, it was raining and hit a small bump and the whole truck started violently bouncing everywhere (inside the cab and outside) like all four tires stopped turning. It was so bad that my briefcase, cell phone and water got thrown. I couldn't steer too well so I hit the brakes and stopped on the highway then went very slow to a gas station and two strangers followed me to see if I was okay and they both said that they think my truck went into 4-wheel drive by itself because my tires weren't turning. I took it into the wyatt arp dealer, they gave me a rental for 2 days. They said they could not duplicate and my 4-wheel drive problem. The paperwork says, "customer states was traveling 75 mph on hwy I-10 when raining rear tires locked up after hitting bump. Unable to duplicate customer concern at this time".

61 Wheel problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 09/16/2011

While driving 60mph the front end of the vehicle suddenly shook excessively and became difficult to control. Upon stopping the car I found the drag link for right side had split and detached from ball joint. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and I was informed that the entire steering assembly needed to be replaced. Dodge has a known problem with this and no longer makes or supplies this failed part. This repair and replacement is at my cost and not covered under any recall or warranty. I was instructed the recall had been performed in April of 2011 and no action was needed at that time.

62 Wheel problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

This report is regarding the failure of a goodyear wrangler ats tire, load range d, size 305/70r16. For several months the vehicle has had a mild to moderate tire shake or in-balance. A goodyear dealer re-balanced the tires, but there was no change in the shake. We returned the vehicle to the same dealer who then stated the tires were out of round and couldn't be balanced. They did not advise us to replace the tires or to stop using the vehicle. Two months later, after an hour at highway speed, the tire suddenly delaminated. The vehicle sustained over $3,000 in damage from the tire explosion. Control was not lost. Looking at the tire, it's very obvious this was the result of a manufacturing defect. Half of the steel belts are covered with a layer of bonded rubber. The other half of the belts are exposed. The separating line is right down the center of the tire. The small portion of tread that remains is separated from the belts, but is still bonded on the other side. It appears two strips of rubber were placed laterally on the face of the tire and one of them did not bond properly. I don't see any signs of patches. Although now rusted, the steel belts were bright when the tire first separated.

63 Wheel problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/06/2011

Dealer had my truck twice since the recall. He told me that there was a tie-rod assembly, steering linkage and front end needed. I only have 49,000 miles on it and there's a recall for these defects with Chrysler id 11v350000 - they old me that it would cost me $3,000 the first time and then I came back to get parts and now they are telling me they will give me a break on parts - this is fraud if there's a recall plus they should have fixed it the first time for free - it was totally under warranty at both times.

65 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 02/02/2011

I was driving my normal route home on I-65. Just before my exit, there is an overpass on I-65 you must go over. The expansion joint is diagonal to the interstate. I have gone over this joint thousands of times before,in my other vehicle. Driving my new truck, I went over the joint and the truck jumped to the right. It scared me but I assumed it was because I wasn't accustomed to driving the new vehicle.

I have a Dodge Ram 2500 4 wheel drive truck that has 35200 miles on it. The front right wheel hub bearing has gone out and the other side is almost worn out the dealer wants 424. 00 per wheel to replace them. I see that there is a recall ( 07v03800) on the 2006 1500 trucks but the dealer said that my truck is not covered due to the time has lapsed I have friends & relatives that have Dodge trucks that had bad hub bearings replaced under warranty. Severe crack in stock rim on 2005 Dodge 250 truck. Found when installing new tires. Large crack was approximately 1 inch long from outside edge towards center hairlining out to each side and would soon completely brake apart. Found on front of vehicle but could be any rim. Replacing rim with used rim. This could be an extreme crash problem if rim brakes apart at highway speeds.

Failure Date: 12/08/2008

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with aluminum wheels. Both left side tires developed leaks due to cracks in the factory wheels. Had the leaks been on the right side I may not have noticed them going down and it could have been rather dangerous. When checking for replacement rims I was told at two large junk yards that Dodge had a problem with the aluminum rims and would do nothing about it. I have both rims with cracks. I currently have two steel rims on and two aluminum. I am uncertain about leaving the two aluminum rims on as I am not sure if they will also fail.

70 Wheel problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/19/2008

My Dodge Ram 2500 truck has a violent death wobble issue. At freeway speeds when hitting an uneven bump in the pavement the truck goes into a sustaining death wobble type motion in the front end. It is extremely scary, and quite dangerous. The truck is completely out of control and must be slowed to approximately 30 mph for the wobble to stop. I've taken my truck to the Dodge dealer several times and they cannot find the problem. I've replaced everything, the axle, steering dampener 3 times, ball joints, alignment adjustments, new tires. The problem goes away for a short time but then always returns. I'm afraid to drive my truck on the freeway and my kids are afraid to drive in my truck period. When it happens it's very wild and scary. All the traffic around me slows down and swerves to get away from my truck. It's not only dangerous and scary, but embarrassing too. I don't know what to do. I've tried everything and nothing is working. Dodge is pretty much useless. They turned their back on me since all the components check out fine. They said there's nothing that they can do. I need a resolution for this problem.
