| Vehicle Speed Control problems |
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph, the cruise control activated independently with an unexpected increase of acceleration up to 106 mph. The vehicle failed to slow down even though the brake pedal was depressed repeatedly. The engine was turned off in order to stop. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and they were unable to locate the problem. The technician disabled the cruise control and the failure persisted. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 128,800.
While at a complete stop, with foot on the brake, there was tremendous amount of power being transferred through the transmission to make the truck surge forward. I had to put both feet on the brake pedal and pull on the steering wheel to stop the vehicle. At one point, sitting at a four way intersection I released the brake pedal and I immediately slid sideways uncontrollably across the intersection. Thankfully there were no other vehicles at the intersection otherwise there would have been a guaranteed collision. Every stoplight or stop sign was like a hole shot with a transbrake.
