1 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2017

While driving home from work one evening my truck started making the most awful grinding sound coming from the front passenger tire. Then my abs light and serv 4wd light came on the dash. A few seconds later the tucked bobbled and weaved and I could no longer steer it. When I got out to look at the problem the wheel itself was resting on the hub assembly. Previous to this I've had to replace front end parts like crazy. New ball joints and I joints annually. Brakes twice a year, and it will eat up tires on the front. Also the truck will not stay aligned. I've contacted Chrysler and first they were very helpful, but then they started to give me the run around. I've had to have their tie rod end recall fixed several times as well.

4 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2014

I have the original tires on it still. I don't off road nor do I use it for commercial use. In Nov 2011, with 19k miles, I had the left tie rod replaced as the ball joint part wore out and was hanging. Then I got the notice in Dec 13 of this new tie rod issue, I thought it to be one in the same. I departed my house for work. With no notice, as I was backed out a dirt driveway, I heard a pop, it sounded like something was dragging. I stopped, looking under the front and back thinking I had picked up something, there was nothing. As I tried to move forward, the scraping sound appeared again, I stopped, looked up under the front end finding the drag link hanging about 8 inches off the tie rod end. I called the Dodge contact number in the book. This was 340 am. . I explained what happened and he stated that he would build a job order for it. I contacted the dealer,(8 am) he asked me to look at the drag link and see what type of stabilizer system I had mounted on it. I had 2 u bolt connectors about half mass of the drag link. The dealership then stated that knowing that, I needed to have the drag link replaced, and that it would be covered under this recall. He then stated that as it was mounted, the stabilizer didn't allow the drag link to rotate properly causing undue stress on the tie rod end joint. I was then told that the dealership had inspected 15 trucks so far and all 15 needed these parts replaced, but Dodge still didn't' have the replacement parts available and wouldn't be until around the 14th of April 14. Mind you this recall was put out in Dec 2013 4 months ago. . . . Still as of today with no parts currently available. . I wanted to talk to a supervisor, she said their office doesn't work like that. . . . . Every one has a supervisor some place. . . . She stated the conversation was recorded, and continued to try to push me off to the road side assistance folks.

6 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2014

We received a recall notice for this vehicle in December, with regard to the left tie rod ball stud on the truck. It said that the part could fracture and cause loss of control/crash without warning. We were directed to call the dealer January 6 to arrange repair. On January 6, crystal Chrysler in cathedral city said they didn't have the parts and to call back in a week or so. We called again today (January 16), and they still do not have parts. The next-closest dealership (in yucca valley, CA) said it would be at least a month. When we called Dodge, they said that dealerships could only order one each week, which has now been raised to three each week. This recall covers all Dodge trucks made between 2008 and 2012. That is absolutely ridiculous. Who is responsible if one of us loses control due to a fracture? we haul hay with this truck, as well as a large horse trailer. This truck is supposed to be the top of the line for Dodge. How long can Dodge make us wait for a repair? I think we have already passed "reasonable" and "timely" with this issue. 7 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

I got the recall notice n49/NHTSA 13v-529 in November 2013 and it said parts would be available on January 6 2014. The 4 dealerships I contacted around amarillo TX said they only get one tie rod assembly a week. Two dealers in amarillo had over 100 people on there lists that's 2 years before I can get in, the dealer in dumas TX had 60 people so that's still a years wait, but I did find a dealer in dalhart TX and they only had 12 people on there list so maybe if I don't crash my truck because of this in 3 months I can have this repaired. This recall process is a joke get recall over 2 months in advance and Chrysler Dodge cannot manufacture parts to get this fixed customer safety is not very high on there list.

12 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2013

On June 11, 2013 I was backing into my garage when I lost my steering capability for my vehicle. I exited my vehicle to try and determine what may have caused this. I noticed the tie rod on the drivers side hanging down to the ground. I had my vehicle towed to the nearest Dodge dealer(zimmerman's enterprises) in sunbury PA. The tie rod replacement was covered under a safety recall and was replaced the following day. Due to the tie rod being bad it caused my drivers side front tire to become cupped and damaged. I asked the sales manage at zimmerman's Dodge about the faulty tire and he told he to just rotate it to the rear. The four tires on my truck were purchased in February. All four tires were rotated in may after approx. 5,000 miles. The tire that was worn out because of the faulty tie rod would not pass inspection when I questioned my mechanic. It is obvious that my other 3 tires have very little wear on them compared to the tire that was on the side with the faulty tie rod. My concern is that my vehicle was placed on the road with an unsafe tire. Also the tie rod being faulty caused my tire to wear abnormally and should have been replaced under the recall for the tie rod. I understand that Chrysler does not have a warranty on tires but this defect was caused due to a manufacturer defect part.

As I was looking for a parking spot at a local entertainmet venue, I took a right and was in process of making a quick left about 20 yards after the right. As I turned to the left I heard something pop under the truck. I decided to keep going straight instead of turning left so I straighted the truck out and proceeded forward about 50 yards down at a stop sign I saw an empty on the left and proceeded to turn towards it. The pop I had heard earlier was the actually the driver side tie rod snapping and while turning left it caught the sidewall of the tire and locked up the steering arm and bent the trailing arm. I had taken the truck to spring Dodge in spring, TX to have the l16 recall performed on it a year earlier on the same month.

17 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2012

Traveling at approx 40 down a straight street in town , apparently according to witnesses the truck sharply changed lanes into on coming traffic , side swiping one car went thru two residential fences and ended up stopping in shop/garage turned 90 degrees to the road we where traveling on . I was sited for neg 2 driving , because I couldn't recall what had happened . The truck was totaled . On the report we got from the ins. Co there was some info and to my disbelief was a paragraph about 2010 Dodge rams 3500 being recalled for left tie rod failure . My wife luckily had taken lots of pictures of the scene of the accident , after some investigating on our part ( went and looked at the truck ) the left side tie rod was broken , we took pictures of the tie rod , and by looking at the tie rod there was no damage to it that would have caused it to fail , the pictures my wife took at the scene clearly show something dragging in the dirt on the driver side . My wife and I are currently seeing a local bone crusher ( chiropractor ) its his belief that the truck swerved hard enough that my head hit something knocking me unconscious , he said that would explain the tilted atlas that I am continuing fighting to this day , the chiropractor told me that when they take a head on head xray you should not be able to see your atlas on mine you can see over half of it , worst he's ever seen . We had been having front end problem and brought it to the local dealership . We also have docs from the dealership that would be of more evidence on the tie rod , they released the truck to us the day before the accident saying there was some problems with the tie rod and would be very unsafe to drive at this time , but no one said anything to us about how unsafe it was and not to drive it .

Noticed the front tires were oddly worn and took truck to tire store. Replaced front tires and tried to have the front end aligned. Store said they could not align the truck because the tie rods were too worn and suggested I check with Chrysler about a recall. Talked with Chrysler who said while there had been a recall on tie rods my VIN number was not included. Tie rods should not be worn after 27,000 miles of regular driving - something is wrong.

20 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

While my dealership has taken care of my 3 issues here, I want to let folks know: front end steering. 2 yrs after purchase, I started to have front end steering shimmy. The first time, the tie rod became loose, and was replaced by the dealership. 2nd time, I was backing out of my driveway, (loose sand) and the tie rod end literally snapped in 2, rendering the steering useless. Reading the ladies story about her husband being ticketed for falling asleep when I have had it happen to my truck I thought I needed to speak out. Drive line issue: the support bearing on the drive shaft, went while driving with out notice. Luckily I was driving down my drive way which is about 500 feet long and wasn't going but about 15 mph. It had to be towed in and was covered under warranty. I love my truck and currently have 136k miles on it. The fuel mileage wasn't impressive but minor mods have brought it closer to 20 mpg when empty. I think I still have pictures of both the snapped tie rod and when it was wore out. Luckily I wasn't going fast when the snap happened, but the sand shouldn't have torqued the tie rod so hard to snap it when backing out of the drive way.
