Air Bag Problems of Dodge Sprinter - part 1

My two nearby dealers (hudson valley Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram and dutchess Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram) both state they sold their tools to work on Sprinter vans and refuse to complete the recall. I currently have no nearby options to complete this safety recall, and I cannot get my vehicle inspected.

The contact called an independent mechanic to replace the air bags and was informed that the parts to replace the air bags were no longer being manufactured. The recalls are for 2016-2015 airbags component. I had called every Dodge dealership within my 50miles distance and Mercedes Benz and they dont have the part to perform the repair or they mention they have no space for the vehicle. There never been any accidents. Its just a recall from mercedes/mopar.

I have a mercedes Sprinter van that has a Dodge VIN number and no one wants to provide the replacement of the airbag in the vehicle. Mercedes says its a Dodge and the Dodge dealership in freehold said they can not work on it since it has a mercedes emblem on it.

Dodge was not able to replace the passenger airbag. No dealers could replace it. I had the passenger airbag replaced by a mercedes Sprinter dealership and was reimbursed by Dodge. The problem is they can not remove the recall from NHTSA. I still get email and mail telling me to replace the passenger airbag. I've called 4 times over 2 years. Each time they say they'll fix it. It still shows the recall is not complete. How can I remedy this? Dodge has been no help.

I have received a letter from the fca us llc regarding recalls for both airbags. I have called 3-4 times requesting this service. Because the van is technically a Dodge (although made by mercedes, back in 2007) there is no Dodge dealerships that will agree to service the vehicle. The Chrysler/Dodge dealerships don't service Sprinters, as they haven't been rebranded by Dodge since 2007, and the mercedes dealerships either don't have access to the Dodge recall system, or are unwilling to assist, as they are not affiliated with the recall. I called 1800- 992-1997, to speak with Chrysler, (case #86864958) and spent another 42 minutes on the phone yesterday, still unable to find a solution. They called another handful of dealerships, seemingly not believing that Dodge dealerships would be unwilling to service a Dodge Sprinter. They stated that I could probably bring it to mercedes Sprinter and have the work done, and then apply for reimbursement, although they would not guarantee me in writing that they would cover the expense. I have been working on a solution for probably close to the last 6 months. I have recently been forced to drive this vehicle daily, which makes me more concerned, as my children are frequently inside.

I am reaching out for assistance in resolving a passenger air bag issue in my 2008 Dodge Sprinter RV (case 84229129 for codes r49 and s14). Fiat/Chrysler(fca) notified us of a recall associated with both the driver and passenger airbags in September, 2022. We took the vehicle to bob brady Chrysler in decatur, IL for service at fca’s recommendation. The driver side air bag was replaced without incident. After ten days, bob brady advised us they could not complete the repairs and would need to ‘open a star case’ for escalation. I contacted fca and was advised they would assist me in finding another dealer to fix the passenger air bag and opened case 84226749 within 5 days on opening the case. We went and picked up the vehicle. The paper work at the time of pick up clearly states, “…with codes present in the vehicle, there is the possibility that in the event of an accident, the airbags may not deploy. ” fca did not respond to the opened case and when we reached back out to them, we were advised the case was closed. Their records indicate both passenger and driver airbags have been repaired and are in working order. When I disputed this, fca further advised I would need to readdress with bob brady as another dealer would not be available to complete the repairs. The srs warning light remains on within the vehicle. I have attempted contact with bob brady’s service manager on several occasions without a response. I am reaching in with a request for assistance to help resolve the issue with the airbag repair.

The Dodge dealer in bellevue washington refused to perform the recall repairs. They claimed it was because they couldn't put the vehicle on their lift, even though airbag replacement doesn't require that. They referred me to seattle mercedes, which also refused to do the recall.

Takata recall I made 2 attempts to contact west valley Dodge in CA in which didn't get a call back. I made appt on 11/9 at simi Dodge in CA. I told them I had a Dodge Sprinter on a b class RV. I was told no problem. When I showed up for appt they told me they couldn't do it because of tools needed. I looked on line and no special tools are needed. As I suspected they just didn't want to do the work. A complete waste of my time.

Takata recall, I took the vehicle to goss Dodge in s. Burlington for the NHTSA#15v-354 #r49 passenger airbag module recall and the NHTSA #16v-077 #s14 driver airbag module. When the recall was completed I started the vehicle and the srs light remained on. I told the service people about this and they attempted to find the problem. They state it is a broken wiring harness. They have now kept the vehicle for a week and tell me that the part is not available. I took a photo of the part and got the part number from them and attempted to find one. The Dodge factory parts told me that the part was discontinued in 2016. The vehicle will not pass state inspection with the srs light on it is now sitting at the dealership with the dashboard taken apart.

Takata recall. Received recall notice but Dodge dealers will not repair. They either are unauthorized or the vehicle is to big for them. Also contacted the fca recall assistance center. Fca transferred me to mercedes who does not know anything about Dodge recalls.

Takata recall; manufacturer is unable to remedy safety recall. No incidents have occurred. Local Dodge dealership is unable to replace takata airbags because they do not "have the tools for a Sprinter van". They are not helpful in arriving at a solution. Dealership is billion Dodge-Chrysler Jeep in bozeman, mt 406-556-9076.

Mercedes sends out materials which state ,"remedy parts are now available", the owner now calls his dealer for remedy and all dealers now state parts are not available. Dealer calls mercedes and mercedes supposedly tells dealer there are no parts.

Takata recall driver & passenger sides. Both recalled. No Dodge or mercedes dealers within 60 miles of us are willing to replace these airbags. Initially, after we were notified of initial recall on drivers side, they said they could not get parts. Now they can get parts but they all say they cannot or will not perform this replacement. How can we possible get this work done? how many dealers do we have to contact to find one who will do this work? who is responsible for this? I keep reading that so many people just have not bothered having the recall work done, but we have tried on several different times to do it. . . . It just doesn't seem possible to achieve it. Takata recall larry h miller Dodge (albuquerque) in the last two months has had my 2007 Sprinter for a month to try to replace the takata passenger airbag. I needed the Sprinter back so I went to colorado and when I got back, I went to the dealership today. What they told me was that they need a different (new) wiring harness and that is unavailable. They told me to complain to chrystler, which I will do, but I will also complain to you. They refuse to do anything more. I am attaching the paperwork they gave me.

2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500 consumer writes in regards to replacement parts not available to repair passenger and driver airbag recall notices.

I have received three letters referring to recall: s14, r26 and r 49 dating back over one year. I have made several attempts to contact 2 different Dodge/ Chrysler dealerships and was always told they do not have the parts. The vehicle is made by Mercedes Benz and the parts can be cross referenced to a Mercedes Benz part number. The allegedly missing parts are in stock and Chrysler has no excuse not to immediately repair a safety hazard !.

I have contacted fiat Chrysler automobiles and they stated that I would to contact Mercedes Benz. I contacted a mercedes dealer and they stated that the replacement part would not be available until 2017. The information that I received via mail states that the part is available.

Takata recall: I have been in contact with the Dodge recall people for the last year and have not been able to get any action on their part. They have put me in contact with all the Dodge dealers in south florida and none of them will work on my Sprinter. Part of the problem is that my vehicle is an RV built onto the Dodge Sprinter and another problem is that in 2007 Dodge was owned by mercedes bens and Dodge does not feel responsible for mercedes products.

I have been waiting over a year and parts are still not available. I would think a safety issue that puts my passengers at risk would be addressed in a more responsible manner.

Attempted service at several local Chrysler,Jeep,Dodge ram dealers but was turned away saying they do not do recall work on Dodge Sprinters. Contacted local Sprinter dealers and was informed they do not do recall work on Dodge Sprinters. Contacted fiat Chrysler llc recall assistance center and they said my only option was to travel to portland, oregon or las vegas, nevada to have the recall work done. I have no ability to travel that far for this safety recall work. Please advise as I am very concerned about this issue.

Takata recall I was notified of an s14 recall some time ago I then called the dealer (duluth Dodge) to take care of the recall. My information was taken down & I was told that they would call when parts were available. I have since received a r49 recall & upon calling the dealer I was told parts were not available & that I should call back in a couple of weeks. I was told that Chrysler would notify me when parts were available, this was different information than the first recall ; two different stories. What do I believe & how do I get these recalls resolved.
