I believe that this issue has great potential for a fatality. The problem that Dodge/Chrysler has is in the 2. 4l engines manufactured from 2005 to present. The crankshaft moves inside the engine (endplay) and pushes the front main seal to come out. This spills the entire contents of oil onto the road and covers the bottom of the car. When I had the car towed the shop said it was surprising that the car did not crash fire. Dodge refuses to fix the car, because they say it is no longer under warranty. This is a safety issue and Dodge should be forced to issue a recall.

: the contact stated while traveling at 50-55 mph, the vehicle caught on fire from the engine compartment. 5 minutes prior to the incident, the contact noticed grey smoke escaping from under the hood. The vehicle was pulled over and the fire department and police was alerted. The fire was extinguished and the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The fire department was unable to determine what caused the fire. A representative of daimler Chrysler inspected the vehicle on 06/04/06, but did not provide any feedback. A letter was received from the manufacturer dated 06/09/06 that declared daimler Chrysler would not be held responsible for all the incurred damages to the vehicle. A card was also received from daimler Chrysler alerting the contact to call the dealership about recall e23 about a week before the incident occurred. On 06/19/06, a recall letter was received stating that there was a recall on the high pressure steering hose for the vehicle that caught on fire.

I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus with a 2. 7l engine. The engine has failed and yet I still have to make payments on my car. I have always taken care of my car and have always had oil changes every 3000 miles. I have read hundreds of stories just like mine and I believe that Chrysler is ripping of its consumers. I think that something needs to be done about this. If I didn't take care of my car that would be one thing, but Chrysler ignoring this problem as if nothing is wrong is another problem. They need to get it together and do something about this.

Engine caught on fire on my 1999 Dodge Stratus. Parked vehicle and went inside the store, and came out and vehicle was on fire. Had the vehicle towed to my house. Contacted Dodge, they sent out an inspector to review the vehicle. The inspector said, the vehicle should have exploded and do not fix the vehicle, Dodge will fix this for you. Rec'd a letter from Dodge, stating they denied my claim to fix vehicle, but would not offer any reason. They also would not give me a copy of the inspection report, they indicated that I would have to hire an attorney to get a subpoena to get a copy of the report. Called the inspector back, found that really strange they always give the reports out and they must be hiding something. Called Dodge 4 different times and they were rude and hung up on me. They would not transfer me to any one, and did not answer my questions. This is my only vehicle, I thank god everyday that my children were not in the vehicle at that time. Now I have to rely on other means of transportation for myself to get to work and my children to school. This is very difficult with 2 school age children and 1 infant.
Consumer stated vehicle caught on fire. The vehicle was smoking , and took it to the repair shop. They could not find anything wrong with it. The fire started while the vehicle was in use. This happened on Sunday July 24, 2005. The brakes were serviced about 5 days ago. Also a police report was issued.

1998 Dodge Stratus caught on fire in the engine compartment. Daughter turned a corner when the power steering went out. She pulled over as the engine caught fire. It was extinguished by the fire department. The car was totaled.
Reliable mechanics refused to change the oil on my 2003 Dodge Stratus because they don't want to be responsible for an engine which has only 47,200 miles on it. Mechanics state there is a major problem with this engine and sludge build up, and it is likely to need repairs of the engine, ranging from $3,000 and up, soon. As I've done some investigating, I have seen this as a major problem. We are faithful with our oil changes, and feel this company needs to recall this engine and fix this problem. I have three children and I have been reading that these engines just die in the middle of the road with no warning. Dodge will have a much bigger problem if someone gets killed because of their carelessness to fix this problem. I really feel this needs to be adressed ASAP before someone or some family gets seriously injured.

A very small "drip. . . Drip. . . Drip" of oil started around 47k miles. Drip became a gush by 50k miles. Oil was flowing out of the head gasket as fast as I could put it in. (yeah, big surprise, huh?!) thanks, Chrysler, for standing behind your product and making good on your screw-ups. Typical american big biz attitude! you can bet my next vehicle will be a Toyota! OH gee! I almost forgot - yes, I'll be sure to tell everyone I know to "steer clear of anything Chrysler". No pun intended I assure you. . . Especially since your crappy engineers just cost me $1000.
Severe engine knock. Exceded Dodge recommended oil changes ,have reciets for oil changes. Yet Dodge dealer denies warranty do to ngine oil sludge build-up.
Consumer advised that vehicle was excessively overheating whenever driven. Dealer serviced several times, but could not diagnose problem. Recently, dealer discovered aluminum shavings were present inside of cylinder "head" causing overheating.
