The transmission went out and based on research Ford claimed the transmission problem was fixed for the 2013 model. Ford does not acknowledge any further transmission problem but when I contacted the corporate office they did not refuse to replace it completely without cost.

I was driving on the freeway and all of the sudden my car lost power and a "stop safetly now" warning popped up on my speedometer. I managed to get to side of the freeway and stopped the car. I looking online for a solution and I read that I can turn on and off the car a couple times and that will fix it. I read there was the same issue with the Ford focus electric vehicles and there was a recall to replace a defective part. The Ford C-max has the same issue but was never issued a recall. This is a very dangerous issue since it has happened twice while on the freeway and I have a sudden loss of power and acceleration. Ford should issue the recall to the C-max as for the "stop safetly now" issue on their electric vehicles.
While I was driving & turning around a corner on a city street in newport, ri, a silent warning flashed on the car dash in large red capital letters, reading: "stop safely now!" but the engine stopped immediately - before I could apply the brake - leaving me stranded in the middle of traffic. At the same time, a yellow "engine" and "traction control" icon appeared on the dash. I waited a while and tried to start the engine, but no response. Called newport police to get my car out of the traffic lane. Together, with the police and a friend who also responded to my call for help, we got the engine started and slowly drove the few blocks to my home. The car is in my driveway, and I haven't started it since. Flood Ford service dept. Advised me to call Ford roadside assistance & have the car towed to their service department. There is no police report as such; it is considered by the newport police as a "call for assistance. ".
I bought this 2013 Ford C-max energi used in 2017, right off the bat after checking out vehicle, the Toyota dealership had to jumpstart the car. Now, the current issue is that this vehicle has to be jump-started every time I try to start the car. This has been occuring since November 2020. These issues had occured sporadically, even after replacing the battery in 2018 with other brand battery, though not as frequently, and every day as it does now. Sometimes the vehicle would not start after sirius software update got stuck at 0%, this occured a few times in 2018. In late 2018 I bought a portable jump starter because this vehicle became untrustworthy to start. Though, if I had known about service bulletins and not just recalls I would have taken the car in to have it repaired earlier when issues presented themselves. So I finally took in my C-max in to a local hybrid repair shop, but the technicians were not able to replace the specific part, they referred me to the dealership to replace it. They printed out materials that stated there had been a few technical service bulletins for discharged batteries. I unfortunately missed the repair window by 6 months and will incur the costs. My car as of 1/13/2021 has been in the shop for two weeks now at dealership waiting for parts. The manufacturer defect will cost me around $1,100. It seems there has been many battery discharge bulletins for this model throughout the years for this year, make and model. The Ford dealership at manahawkin, NJ even stated this vehicle is not as common, so parts were not available immediately. I feel Ford should issue a recall to be reimbursed for the trouble this car has caused. These issues should have been fixed by first owner of vehicle. There are several reported issues on carcomplaints. Com for this issue. This should be investigated if recall can be made on this year and model.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford C-max hybrid. While the vehicle was stationary, the battery saver warning indicator turned off and the following message displayed across the instrument panel: "911 assist is disabled, contact dealer". Immediately afterwards, the shifter indicator displayed on the instrument panel. The contact turned the key in the ignition, but the motor did not indicate that it was ready to drive until approximately one minute later. The contact placed the shifter into reverse and attempted to reverse, but a sudden loss of power steering occurred. The contact placed the vehicle in the drive gear and depressed the accelerator pedal in an attempt to stop the vehicle; however, the vehicle accelerated beyond 35 mph. The contact attempted to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal, but the vehicle would not stop. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to bob moore Ford (8948 s I-35 service rd, oklahoma city, oklahoma 73159) where it was diagnosed that the inner cell of the battery was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford C-max hybrid. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle shut down and the "stop now pull over" warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road and towed to perry Ford of poway (12740 poway rd, poway, CA 92064), but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000. **.
Wrench light came on meaning contact dealer ASAP about powertrain issue. I had noticed a few days earlier it seemed to not be switching between electric and engine as well or smoothly when driving. When stationary, the display screen for radio would not come on when getting into the car. Instead it gives message "turning off to conserve battery. " car has been well maintained and is at 78000 miles. Took to dealer. Cannot find issue. Codes it is throwing are for battery but they both test good. They reset codes and we went to pick it up. Now key fobs won't work unless the car is turned on. Alarm button on the fob makes the car sound like a fluttering noise, but no real alarm. The dealer is going to keep it more and check it out more. Still has the message about conserving battery on the screen. They hadn't found what caused the battery codes and now more things aren't working.
Driving my 2015 Ford C-max and all of a sudden I lose power. I press the gas and nothing. I was driving through a intersection and had to coast to the side of the rode. Big red triangle show up saying "stop safely now". Car has been at the dealer for 4 days, they are trying to find the problem. I have read online about this problem with multiple Ford vehicles and a recall was called for the focus. I guess Ford is to big to go after and the ntsb drags there feet like no other. Call for a recall on all vehicles that "stop safely now'. Will you wait until people die to do something!!.
Transmission makes a loud whining sound when warming up and in gas mode. It is diagnosed by technician as possibly the transmission bearings, but will not know until they dis assemble. Quoted $7500 for a replacement transmission. The car only has 84,000 miles. Ford will not work with me on the price.
1. On taking a trip from panama city beach, FL to indianapolis, in this cmax was parked & locked in the northwest florida beaches parking lot at approximately 9 am cst 2. At approximately 4:30 pm est a telephone call was received from the airport police informing me that the cmax was in the parking lot running with the lights on and I was asked to go to the parking lot and turn the automobile off. After I informed the officer that I was in indiana and could not comply with the request, I proceeded to make numerous telephone calls; Ford motor company, gary smith Ford and others in an attempt to have the cmax turned off but was told it could not be done. I then returned officer's call and asked that they go to the parking lot, break the drivers window, and press the start/stop button to turn the cmax off. The officer called me back to inform me that when they went to the lot, the cmax was not running and the lights were off. 3. Upon returning to the airport on 2/8 I had to use the key to access the cmax since the battery was dead and the gas tank was empty. 4. A jumper battery was used and fuel was added to enable the cmax to run. 5. This vehicle has numerous indicators, audible and visual to alert the driver if exiting the vehicle while the car is in the run mode. The exit from the cmax on 2/2 was normal. Nothing was on. The locking indication was normal and no lights were on ( I keep the headlight switch in the position where if the vehicle is in the run mode, the lights are on ). This problem had to have been caused by a signal from an aircraft or a radio, radar with enough power to broadcast some distance. 6. My concern is that if this type ignition system can be turned on accidentally, it could also be turned off accidentally and that could be disastrous if the vehicle turned off while in motion causing the driver to lose control.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford C-max hybrid. After placing the vehicle in park and turning it off, the contact was alerted that the vehicle independently rolled backwards and crashed into another vehicle. The contact was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Upon entering the vehicle and inspecting it, the contact noticed that the vehicle shifted into reverse. The failure occurred on one separate occasion. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was able to be driven away from the scene. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,900.
Reverse gear setting actually put the car in drive after starting the parked car nd attempting to back out ofparking space. I tried turning off engine, and the same thing occurred, the car continued to creep forward until the car made contact with the parking space sign. This is not a small issue as 1) it probably occurred previously with the same model in the same fleet and leaser charged me upward of five hundred dollars to fix vosmetic damage caused while parallel parking and 2) thus could cause bodily injury had the parking space not been blocked in front. These cars are part of a membership based rental fleet, and should be highly maintained. After contacting the emergency number of the fleet leaser, I was a few minutes later able to reenter and start the car, and the reverse gear operated properly. The leaser has previously raised my insurance rate based on small amounts of damage to a fleet vehicle incurred while parking. My guess is that they know of te problem and have chosen to blame the drivers rather than the manufacturers or maintenance engineers.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford C-max. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds a grinding noise (milling) was heard with the engine warning light illuminating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was diagnosed as the passenger rear wheel bearing was defective and needs to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but transported to maryland. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the passenger rear wheel bearing was replaced. The contact stated that the grinding noise continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed the failure as the front brake pads and rotors for the passenger and driver side needs replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The grinding noise continued with unknown warning light illuminating. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the transmission would have to be replaced in the future. The transmission was not replaced. The manufacturer was notified and a case was opened. The contact stated that the manufacturer offered to buy part of the transmission repair. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
Car will not start, nothing left on, car jumped with jumper, took place again yesterday 5/27/2014. Unable to jump start this time, Ford road side assistance applied a jumper able to get electrical system up, but car will not run. Ford dealer received car, stated that their road side assistance did not know how to jump car. Also stated battery was dead, but tested fine. Asked why this would happen, could not tell me. They stated that all power systems like lights or phones are automatically turned off after 45 minutes. Have called Ford customer care and given a case number. When battery is dead, gear shifter cannot be moved to even push the car out of the carport to be towed.
I purchased my vehicle after seeing ads for it on tv. I went to the dealer in Dec 2013 and saw the window sticker reporting that the vehicle received a 47/47 mpg rating. After researching other vehicles that met my tastes and requirements I decided to try the C-max and escape, Mazda cx-5, and a vw diesels, and prius v. Mpgs were one of leading factor in my purchasing decision. The C-max was 17 mpg better than the escape, 16 mpg better than the cx-5, 6-7 mpg better than the vws, and 5 better than the prius on hw. Ford has now changed the mpg on the C-max 2 times, lowering it below the vws/prius and 9-10 mpg against the escape and cx-5. The C-max changed from 47 to 42 city and 47 to 37 mpg highway (10 mpg/20% lower). If today I was making the same comparison I would not have purchased this vehicle with mpg as the deciding factor. I am convinced that Ford duped consumers purposely or by negligence in advertising the 47/47 mpg. I request the NHTSA or other federal agency take Ford to court to make amends for these wrongs. Ford has already paid me about $450 for "satisfaction" on the mpg adjustments and may do so again soon. This in no way makes up for a wrongful $34k purchase decision. Ford needs to do two things: 1) pay C-max owners for loss of value and mpg damages. Or 2) give current C-max owners the ability to sell back their vehicles at no-loss. Ford can now resell ?13 C-max's as "certified" with the "corrected" mpg without deception. Please help current C-max owners who were deceived with the false mpg claims and were paid "satisfaction" hush money to wiggle Ford out of federal/civil lawsuits. This money does not make amends for actual financial damages done to us, C-max owners would/might have taken their money elsewhere, now we are stuck with a vehicle that already has normal, plus vastly increased depreciation do to the mpg fiasco. Again, please help C-max owners.
