Ten problems related to air bag have been reported for the 1998 Ford Contour. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I was rear ended into another car on oct. 29 2002 and niether the air bag worked as well as the seatbelt did not lock. I had head, neck, and back injuries at that time. I did't question these things not working because I was not hit hard. Oct. 27,2003 I was involved in the exact same type of accident only this time I was hit hard from behind and hit the car infront of me hard. Again nothing worked and this time the police even questioned the air bag. Again I have injuries to my face, head, neck, shoulder, and back but to what extent I do not know yet. I was at a complete stop in both accidents and hit straight on in the rear. In 2002 I hit the car in front straight on and now in 2003 I hit the front can with the center to passenger side. My car is said to be totaled.
Consumer received recall notice 99v243000. Dealership was refusing to install a new diagnostic monitor as described in recall corrective action. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Consumer noticed that the place where the airbag is located has a split in it. Dealer can't seem to fix it so that it will not deploy over a period of time.
Consumer took vehicle to dealer for recall repairs. Dealer refused to fix airbag monitor.
The pcrv in the rear brakes may have failed per recall notice 00v-075 prior to recall notice causing consumer to loose control of the vehicle, the vehicle became airborn, jumped a ditch and landed on front bumper. No delpoyment of air bag occured during accident. Nlm.
Consumer experiencing some type of airbag failure but it's taking the dealership alot of time to find and repair the problem. Nlm.
When driving at any speed the vehicle vibrates and the vehicle cuts off without giving any prior warning. Also, when applying brakes they are hard and foot goes all the way to the floor. Consumer took the vehicle in for repairs three times, and the dealer had to replaced the air bag due to the fact that thiere wasn't any air in the air bag.
Have had 5 recalls since buying the car. Also, have had to have the water pump changed. The problem is trying to get the recalls done. I had taken the car in previously only to be told they didn't have the parts and had to reschedule. The last two recalls I stressed the importance of getting these done when schedule. The air bag and the brakes were the last two. I scheduled them finally in April this year. On Saturday afternoon I went to pick up my car only to be told they did not have the parts. I expressed again how hard it was for me to come in because I work 5-6 days a week. Again I rescheduled for July. I called and made an appointment verified the parts were there. I brought the car in. Again late Saturday afternoon went to pick up the car only to be told again they did not have parts. It seems to be these recalls are not that important. I also asked why my brakes scrubbed when I stopped, they comment was we couldn't get it too. My point is it I do not believe the Ford place cares one way or the other what happens to me or my car.
Consumer received recall 99v243000. Contacted the dealer, no parts available to correct the problem. Please give any further details.
Consumer contacted the dealer in reference to four seperate NHTSA recall notices 99v243000/ 99v194000/ 99v103000 and 98v233000. Also, manufacturer's recalls 99s23/99s19/99s14 and 98s26. Dealer refused to correct the recall problems without the consumer correcting the problem with transmission . Please provide any further details.
