I was never notified of any recalls. I have had to pay out of pocket expenses lost control of vehicle replaced starter and brakes several times feels like suspension is falling apart and never notified I have small and older children shameful. These events starting taking place when I purchased the vehicle in 1999 arm control 3 times replaced I was lied to by Ford and said I must of hit a bump bump my bump 3 times almost dead.
Vehicle hesitates and jerks violently on acceleration, feels like it wants to stall. Dashboard curled up in front by windshield, obstructing view and popped out vent trim. Dealer wouln't fix it because they said the recall on it had expired. Had to try to glue it down ourself.
Twice now, I have felt the engine surge and rev up, powering forward, when I applied the brakes. Incidents were approx. 2 months apart. If I had not had my foot firmly on the brake and pushed hard, we would have crashed into another car or a cement barrier. I don't know what to do about this problem, but want to get it on record somewhere, and find out if others have had this problem.

Engine will surge forward either while driving or sitting still, consumer has many close calls due to vehicle surging forward, delaer has attempted to remedy the problem 5 times, however has not been successful.
On the morning of 11/10/2000, I just completed entering the southbound dallas tollway from legacy dr. In plano, TX. Upon reaching cruising speed, my vehicle continued to race at full throttle. Fortunately, traffic was light at the time of the incident. In addition to removing my foot from the accelerator, I tried to apply the brakes gently to find there was no power assist. I was able to get my foot under the accelerator pedal to insure that it was not stuck to the floor. With both feet and great effort I was able to apply enough braking force to safely manuever the automated toll gate. The vehicle continued to race uncontrollably and I exited at the west parker road exit in plano. The only way I was able to come to a stop at the traffic light I encountered was to slip the vehicle into neutral gear. At that point the engine was screaming, so I turned the ignition off. I restarted the vehicle on green and it started up at full throttle. Upon putting the vehicle into 'drive', the tires lost traction and the vehicle continued to speed along in a "runaway" fashion. I had to pass through another traffic light and intersection (with the same manuever as previously described) before I reached a shopping center parking lot (parkwood center, plano, TX). At this point I telephoned aaa for a tow to the dealership. While waiting for the tow truck, I made several attempts to restart the vehicle and each time the engine raced at full throttle. The dealer evaluated the problem as being a faulty resonater assembly for the engine air intake (allegedly a worn out gasket, which required replacement of the whole unit). I find it hard to believe that Ford engineers would permit the development of a product which has the potential to create such a serious and life-threatening situation. Just for your information, on another matter regarding this vehicle, Ford contacted me directly and reimbursed me $1,000. This was during the latter part of 1999.
Throttle body hose assembly : loud howling sound, engine surging. Engine: stalls when first started when engine is cold.
Consumer was traveling about 60mph on highway and vehicle hestitated. Throttle would roar up high. Without prior warning, and then vehicle would stall out. Both dealerships were aware of problem.
When driving, the consumer took her foot off of the gas pedal and could see the rmp's and speed of the vehicle went up. The vehicle actually jerked forward as the hit brakes. The consumer was told that there was no problem with the vehicle.
It took three tries to my dealer to get this fixed. I have a receipt in there handwriting stating this fact.
Driving down the road at approx 30mph smelled a burning odor. Pulled vehicle over. The wire to the speed control burned off, causing smoke to fill in the vehicle. Contacted dealer.
Consumer is having scheduling problems in receiving recall repairs (99v-103) (99v-194). Mjs.
When traveling 31 mph consumer was involved in a head-on collsion in which neither driver's side nor passenger's side air bags deployed upon impact. Consumer has contacted the dealer, vehicle was totaled . Vehicle accelerated on its own, lost control, hit an embankment head-on.
Upon pushing in the clutch, vehicle will intermintently maintain rpm or gain rpm until vehicle comes to a complete stop or until it decides to fall back down. Driving conditions do not affect the problem, but vehicle does not maintain an rpm over 5000. Vehicle will also maintain current speed without pressing the gas for a prolonged period of time causing the driver to take it out of gear to stop while car maintains an rpm over 3000. Consulted svt service manager who stated problem was characteristic of vehicle. Manager owns same vehicle and has same problem, and states many customers have same problem as well. He has found no fix for vehicle despite many attempts.
While parking vehicle, the engine suddenly revved up for no reason & then shot forward. Applying brakes, did not stop vehicle. It went over small embankment. Air bags did not deploy.
Vehicle experienced a sudden surge when vehicle was at a stop light. Consumer put transmission in neutral to stop the vehicle from pulling off on its own. Dealer has been contacted.
Car accelerates when speed control "set" is applied.

Recall repair delayed due to scheduling problems with dealership (99v-194). Mjs.
Within 6 months of the purchase of my vehicle, the car started having problems with vibrations, shaking, and severe noise while driving. The engine idled rough and got more severe when the heating or cooling system was used. All tires have been replaced, a major brake job with rotors turned was completed, and the struts were replaced. Regardless of this work, the shaking in the car has gotten progressively worse. I have taken my car to the dealership five times for the same problems. They have either said that it was "normal Contour" or that it was the tires. Finally, they indicate that there is a problem but they cannot determine what it is. My car makes a thumping noise and a squealing noise when I make slow right turns. On several occasions my foot has been on the brake pedal and my car surged forward. At one point I thought that the person behind me had hit me because the car jerked so hard and so unexpectedly. Again, I am told that this is normal. This is the worst car that I have ever owned.
Consumer states while driving, vehicle lunged forward.
Power steering becomes disables when driven through puddles of water. Safety should be a recall by Ford motor corp.
Consumer is very unhappy with the number of recalls (6) that have been issued on the vehicle and feels the vehicle is a lemon. Nlm.
Owner can not obtain recall repairs due to lack of parts. (99v-194).
